A lot of people are having problems at usually the same time. Everytime people are reporting problems in mass, my PS2 decides to crap out. I\'ve had it for over a year now. Last time it happened was about the time I joined these forums around the end of July, beginning of August. I bought a DVD cleaner and it worked. Now some of my games don\'t work and the cleaner won\'t even work. It keeps getting "Disc Read Error". I think I might have to send it to Boston for the usual 119 freaking bucks. I always have problems when I take my PS2 to a friends or a friend comes over. I am so pissed right now

What are the early on things that happen to your ps2...? Did you notice anything weird when you played it before it crapped out on you? Like for instance... Did the games take longer to load up then usual?
I just need to know this because I feel my ps2 is next.....

Yeah the PS2 hardware sucks. Infact I know that the consoles we purchased should work but really we shouldn\'t have got them so early on. Too many early consoles have been going haywire.
Sony\'s to blame but unfortunatly theres not a lot you can do. I\'ve just spent the last 3 - 4 weeks or so trying to sort out a working PS2 with Sony who messed me about at every opertunity.
Good luck in sorting your PS2 out. I hope you get a working one. :)

Fixed it. After I threw in GTA3 (it read the DVD format discs but not CD-ROM format discs) then threw in the cleaner and worked for some weird reason. Then I cleaned it and got it working again.

Damnit, at least your cleaner actually does something. This one DVD Ive had problems with.. nothing I do will make it not skip. IM PISSED!!! :rpissed:

Only one dvd doent work on yours? all the rest do?
sounds like a disk problem not hardware problem.

but Ive takin it back twice and it still skips no matter what! and at the same point in the dvd. its really weird. I dunno what to do.

I know what you mean. I just got Planet of the apes and it always skips at the same times in the dvd when I try to replay it. This is bad!

Check out this page if you\'re having probs with DVDs. http://dvd.ign.com/articles/315957p1.html (it does mention skipping in Planet of the Apes)

This skippin´is no PS2, but a DVD fault... don´t blame your PS2 for no reason !
BTW: No problems reported in my area... and that´s over 150 ppl (in German forums !)...
-
I dont know what to blame. If its not the Ps2, and its not the DVD. WTF is it!?!?!? The DVD has absolutely NO scratches on it what-so-ever but yet it still skips. I clean the lens... still skips. I take it back, get a brand new one... Still skips, same place. hmmmm.....
oh and BTW... the DVD is "Pantera: 3 Vulgar videos from Hell"

It´s not like the DVD has scratches or something... it´s because there is no true DVD Specification for the companys. The Matrix for example made trouble on many DVD Players, because of the "white rabbit" stuff... and it still doesn´t run on some DVD Players, but on PS2 ! But the numbers of DVD not working on some Players is very small... 1% I guess... maybe your DVD is one of it !

There is one condition that will make all DVDs skip in one particular area. That\'s double-layered DVDs. You will always get a slight pause in sound/picture when the layers switch.
Check to see if your Planet of the Apes DVD is dual-layered. It should say on the bottom of the back of the case.
