Im not really into the ff games but i thought you guys might find this interesting
Final Fantasy XI seems to be the talk of the town these days. First, they reveal a few bugs, then a new peripheral, and finally the pricing has emerged from Japan. Can you say... FREE!!!
According to sources at Square, the PlayOnline service that will host the game will be entirely free to use, although you will need a network adapter and hard disk drive. This new caught most people off guard, and many asked how the company could afford to do this. (warning: rumour time...)
According to reports in Japan, Square\'s Final Fantasy service will be heavily subsidised by Sony themselves, although a deal has not been confirmed or mentioned by either company. It was also mentioned that Final Fantasy XI would be the launch title with Sony\'s online network in the US and Europe, beating even the online-ready Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 to the punch.
Whatever happens, it looks like being a \'fantastic\' 2002 for the PlayStation 2.

ya, pretty much old news but still good news.
I have a question, is FFXI a confirmed title or is there any chance they might change it to Final Fantasy Online?

Now this actually has a chance of going somewhere. But will FF XI be good as a multiplayer?

Empororer....why the hell would they make it online if its not good with multiple people???
i actually dont mind it being called Final Fantasy XI now...i mean, Hinorobi (we are on a first name basis) is no longer behind them...they could use this title with the new producer to mark the beginning of a new final fantasy era...as long as 12 is based around traditional final fantasy values and hardcore pornography
anyone think the new producer will be good? i wouldnt mind seeing some darker mature storylines, or subplots (reminiscent of Vagrant Story) in some of the new FF Games...
oh, BTW...smart move to get the HDD and Adapter into peoples homes...

Its the only move i\'d expect from this company. I mean Final Fantasy is popular but they would have harmed sales if they made you pay for the PlayOnline service so you\'d expect Sony to make it free.

Free? Man, that\'s expensive. Especially since most of Asia pay by the hour to be online (some places, by the minute). Us Northern America residents should be thankful of the monthly/yearly unlimited access we have.
Anyway, Sony must have some benefit outta this. Probably some kickback from ISP\'s in Japan for getting more people to go online....who knows. But realistically, it\'s a short term loss for long term gain.

EmporerRob: Very good question. Since noone here know how the game actually works yet... I guess we just have to see when it is released in Japan. This game can be what all other MMORPGs have tried to do or it can be just more of the same..... And that is to have a story that actually works with the gameplay.

it better be free or some if not half of us ain\'t buyin\' the game...think about it? you buy the game for 50 bucks and you gotta pay around 5-10 bucks a month to just play it? Square\'s not that dumb...at least that\'s how I think:p
