Title: Call me crazy, but I have to ask this:
Post by: Marconelly on January 02, 2002, 01:28:08 PM
Should I get Gran Turismo 3?

Now before you start cursing me that I even dare to ask this, here\'s why I ask such a question.

Out of few hundered driving/racing games I\'ve tried in the last 20 years I liked only the following (chronologically)

1. Monaco GP (scenery scrolls up and has little formulla car and steering wheel)
2. Out Run (Arcade, C64)
3. Pit Stop 2 (C64)
4. Lotus Turbo 2 (Amiga)
5. Screamer Rally (PC)
6. Extreme G3 (PS2)

As you can see all these games are completely arcade style, and it\'s my understanding that GT is not. So what do you think?

Few more questions:
- Is there a cabin view where you can see car\'s front like in Screamer Rally and most F1 games? I know there\'s a behind the car view and front view (where you don\'t see your car at all)

- what\'s the feeling of speed like? Few videos I\'ve seen are from tracks so wide that you don\'t really see stuff moving around you at all, so the feeling of speed is almost non-exsistent...

Btw, I can\'t rent games where I live, only buy them...

well i dunno, theres only two views behind the car or on the bonnet of the car, as in you dont see any of your car.

i think the game is excellent, why dont you rent it, and get a feel for it, or buy it , if you dont like it return it!!

There are two types of gamers I can think of that don\'t like GT3; those that have played GT1 or GT2 to death already and non-drivers who don\'t enjoy the process of learning to drive well in order to advance or have no appreciation for a realistic feel of driving in a wide variety of cars and under different conditions. I consider it more of a RPG of racing as it lacks some features of a true racing simulator that tend to be a drag for those that prefer arcade style racing. For instance if you wipe out there is no damage and it\'s still possible to take first place. You also have to work your way up to better cars, making improvements on the cars you do own, adjustments according to the track, adding a depth of play unmatched by ordinary racing games. While much of this may not sound so appealing to you, most gamers who like racers even a little bit get sucked in for many hours of challenging game play even though at times the game can be frustrating (in a good way).

OK, I\'ll get it. What the heck.

Is the logitech wheel worth it? What other games it can be used with?

The most simple solution is to rent somthing you\'re considering for purchase.

If your asking about the wheel I suggest you talk to Ddaryl, I know he owned the wheel and even made a special seat just for it

Guess you\'ll never know, why ask people for an opinion when you could just go down to blockbuster and rent the stupid game for crying out loud.

does this line from my original post answers your question?

"Btw, I can\'t rent games where I live, only buy them..."

I got GT3 last night btw, and I absolutely love the Rally races (it\'s the only thing I\'ve played so far)

Yeah, it is a simulation, but there are lots, and i mean lots of tracks and cars to unlock in arcade mode. Maybe you should wait for Ridge 6

Yep, I got it and, GT3 is waaaay less simulation than I expected. The best way to overtake a car here is to keep slamming into it in the corner. And the best way to prevent other cars to overtake you is to move towards them so they slam you in the back and bounce backwards. Stuff like that is purely arcade-y :)) I love it so far!
