To games like Final Fantasy X, Tetra Master and other titles..
So you have to pay to play.

SquareSoft has announced that its PlayOnline service will no longer incur a monthly fee. However, some of the products that will use the service, like the online RPG Final Fantasy XI, will still have its own monthly fees. Square\'s PlayOnline service is scheduled to begin this spring in Japan. The online network service lets registered users access e-mail, chat rooms, and games such as Final Fantasy XI and Tetra Master. The company plans to announce further details sometime next month.
The beta test for Final Fantasy XI for the PlayStation 2 is currently underway in Japan. We\'ll have more on the game in the near future.

I dont care realy, already paying monthly for DaoC and EQ....
I have enough cash for that, new games and beer .. so Im ok :)

I won\'t get it either even if I have the money to pay it. But i might change my mind like everything else before the release, if so then I will get the PC port..Don\'t like to waste money on PS2 with harddrive and everything else you need to play FFXI when I already have everything I need on my pc.

I knew even before they announced it. FFXI is massive with a massive budget and massive userbase to follow. Square needs the cash and this type of game will probably be their best bet at online success

add in the amount of servers FFXI will command and overhead common sense screams user fee

I said I will never get the PS2 version. If I want FFXI then I will get the PC version so I can save money.
So I can travel to Scotland, Greece, Italy or other places I have never been on :)

Ive heard FFXI will be released on PC aswell..
I thought Square talked about if after the Sony "buyout".
