Title: What\'s your Favorite DVD?
Post by: Ryu on January 04, 2002, 03:26:57 PM
Now, when I ask that question in the thread title, I don\'t mean your favorite movie, I mean your favorite special edition DVD.  DVD\'s come in all shapes and sizes and numerous DVD titles out there actually have 2 or even 3 different versions.  My question is, with all the neat special features out there, which dvd did you thoroughly enjoy enough from start to finish with all of its special features and all of its commentaries and what not.

I actually have two favorite special edition DVD\'s.  The first is The Terminator with its 10 minutes of deleted scenes, Arnold Scwarzzeneger and Jame Cameron interviews, and the James Cameron commentary on the original film.  It\'s so interesting to hear about all of this stuff and to hear about just how the movie was pulled off with their extreme budget constraints and yet create a film as special and classic as the Terminator.

The second one is Fight Club with its director commentaries and how the DVD is setup in general.  The package, the inserts, the disk covers, the commentaries, everything about it is just incredibly interesting and I enjoy watching it all immensely.

Is that the Collector\'s Edition or regular?

I own the out-of-print Collector\'s Edition.

I have the OOP just for that reason.  Haven\'t opened the darn thing.  I bought it for 8 bucks when all the places were doing loss leaders.  I need to check out what they are up to now.

Snatch is an absolutley STELLAR movie but the DVD is a little lacking.  Ryu said favorite DVD not movie.  Like the "steal the diamond thing" they have in there, that just dumb.  And no deleted scence or outtakes?

I would have to say the best DVD is the 2nd Austin Powers movie, it had a commentary option that was down right hilarious, and there was a bunch of hidden stuff throughout the DVD.

That\'s a very good list. Mine would have to be the Abyss, the double disc special edition and Frank Herbert\'s Dune, the sci-fi channel mini series dvd.

Frank Herberts dune is a good dvd but Movie makers STILL cant make the ornithopters (I think that is what those flying bug looking things are called) right!  they have had 2 tries (Dune, Frank Herberts Dune)  I like Frank Herberts version better......

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don\'t think anyone is ever going to do the novels justice, especially the special effects. I just wish they would do some more movies based on Frank Herbert\'s other Dune novels and get them as close as they can.
