Title: I need help installing a media capture device
Post by: 182Ways on January 04, 2002, 06:11:28 PM
It\'s the PCI version of Studio PCTV.

I believe I installed the actual hardware correctly, but I keep getting an error saying that my PC can\'t detect the capture device.  The drivers are all there, but I think I might be connecting it to my TV wrong.  If anyone has tried installing one of these things before and knows any way I can fix it (though I\'ve spent the last 2 hours trying...), please reply.

Thanks.

Big Log is really the one that knows a lot about that, but he is banned so I will try to help.  What operating system are you using and does your TV have any reaction at all like flickers or anything when you do anything with the computer like reboot or such?

I\'m using Windows 98, and my TV isn\'t affected by anything done in my computer.

More information:

There are 4 ports on the back of the device labeled S-Video, Antenna, Audio Out, and Comp.  I initially tried connecting the device to my TV using a standard S-Video cable, but it didn\'t work.  I also tried mixing around a few connections between my PS2, TV, and the device (I need to be able to take screen caps of games, which explains why the PS2 is involved), but didn\'t get any different results.  I\'m not worried about recording audio, so I didn\'t bother with the Audio Out port.  The Comp port, however, is what\'s confusing me, since I have no idea what sort of cable to use and what to connect it to.

This is a capture card, but I don\'t think it\'s an output card.  It looks like you can only watch your source in a window on your computer.  I would think you would have connections on the card marked in and out if you had an output.  I would think you would go into the SVideo input and you should be able to open a window and choose to watch and record the SVideo input.  But it will be on your computer screen in a small window.

Does that make sense?  I am basing this solely on the pinnacle website and the limited things they say.
