In the Arkansas Democrat Gazette under the Business and Farm section there is a story on a large number of faulty X-box\'s and Microsoft\'s horrible customer service.
I don\'t know if I want one now. I already went through this crap with Sony. Although to be fair the stories in the paper are of people who did not get their units repaired or replaced by M$.
Buyer Beware.

the fualts are on pace with the industry average for new electronics
its the nature of the game and thats about it
-
But ya gotta say, PS2 had it\'s problems and still has some....
-
It\'s still less than 1% of their consoles that are faulty. Of course that could still be a couple thousand, so it depends how you look at it.
Also, it\'s cool that in Arkansas, the Business section is the Business... and Farm section.
Although I should talk, living where I do...
Anyway, "it says here in the Politics and Intercourse section that..."
Little Arkansas/politics joke there... No? That\'s fine.

Yeah, but it\'s how you handle those problems that do exist that are important. At least they are to me. Sony sent my PS2 to some dumbass who didn\'t fix it right, but they kept doing it til they got me a working unit again. Got 3 personal calls about it from Their office in California.
There are people in that article that haven\'t even gotten a working unit yet.
Funny that MSNBC would report that story.

Obviously I\'m with ddaryl !
...hundreds is pretty trivial when millions have been shipped...
So, out of 1.5 million XBox, only hundreds have been defective?
Industry averages for electronics manufacturing is higher than a hypothetical ""0.05%"" defective so...the XBox is a reliable piece of electronic hardware!

Not to mention, most people don\'t know their ass from their elbow.
I wonder how many of these defective units ( XBox and PS2) were improperly placed on a rug or some other moronic way of setting them up.

I wonder why only XBox was deemed newsworthy to be put in the paper? When I KNOW Sony\'s customer service is just as bad and from what I have experienced, more problems than XBox. Guess MS really doesn\'t control the media.

Having worked for M$, I can tell you their core, yet unwritten philosophy regarding things like this is that if it\'s already sold, fixing it isn\'t as much of a priority as selling more. Sure, they\'ll fix it, or an outsource group will more likely, but Microsoft isn\'t all that great at monitoring issues with their consumer product line, software or hardware. This isn\'t a jab really, most larger companies operate under the exact same guidelines, give or take. Sony is certainly no better in this respect, I don\'t know about Nintendo, as I haven\'t bought one of thier systems since the NES.
M$ isn\'t a bad company...okay, they are, but I don\'t think "hundreds of XBoxes" out of 1.2 million plus sold really deserves the kind of coverage it\'s getting. Even if 12,000 units were shipped in defective condition, that\'s only approx. 1% of the units that shipped for Christmas. Not a bad percentage. I\'d like to see more companies keep their quality control down to 1% defective.
Oh, I don\'t own an XBox, I own a PS2. I\'m biased towards the PS2, but I think this is thrown out of proportion. When an article pops up saying "Over 500,000 XBoxes sold defective", then it\'s time to worry.

There was also an article about this in the Cleveland Plain Dealer a few days ago.

Yeah i mean RichG has had teribble trouble with his PS2\'s, he has had about 3-4 different ps2,refirbished at that you get someone elses case(the women on the phone slipped up when she told him that)! and has only just got one that works properly.
I had to get my ps2 changed lucky i had a good experiance with sony\'s customer care.
But all consoles seem to get this, i mean when the ps2 came out, it was on watch dog here in the uk, about all the faulty units, but the thing was, was that they only asked the people that had the faulty units, so it is all just bull**** really.
All electronics have problems at the start of it\'s life.
