Title: GTAIII headed to...
Post by: Eiksirf on January 11, 2002, 08:00:20 AM
Since it\'s me posting, you\'ve probably already guessed.  Anyway, here\'s the story:

Quote
The latest issue of Game Informer magazine includes a very exciting tidbit that makes it look like Cube owners will soon be able to go on the crime spree for themselves:

“Rockstar\'s amazing success with Grand Theft Auto III is going to the company\'s head. Ideas are already being dreamt up an even worked on for Grand Theft Auto IV as we speak. In the meantime, all you Gamecube owners can rest easy, as Rockstar is working on GTA III for you guys which should be out before this fall.”

PGC has been unable to independently confirm this, though it seems very, very likely. GTAIII has been enormously successful for Rockstar/Take Two and versions of the popular game are heading to GBA and X-Box. A GameCube version makes perfect sense—and this news seemingly confirms that Nintendo is willing to let such a mature title grace the GameCube.

So apparently, Gamecube gets the game shortly before its sequel comes out, but still, this is great news as far as third parties and the Cube go.

GTA3 would be a huge score for Nintendo, no matter how late.  (Kind of like Resident Evil...)

Oh and apparently, there\'s rumors that Sony is trying to get the series exclusive, so this whole thing might just be a rumor... we\'ll see.

Yea, one site is reporting that they canned the GBA version, too.  These are the signs that point to exclusivity with Sony.

Thats great news that GTA3 is coming to GameCube.   This game should go to every system.   I hope the Xbox version will still be out on March.   :D

Why would it be canned for the Xbox?

Coz of the violence against women prostutes? The racial generalization of the taxi drivers being of Sikh religion (red or orange turbon)? Latino gang members? Italian Mobsters? Japanese Yakuzas? Colombian drug dealers?

It\'s a game for adults. Movies do the same damn thing. Both are for entertainment.

If that\'s NOT the reason....well, sorry for wasting your time. :p

They\'ll have to tone it down and rename it "Happy Rental Auto."

Could you please drop PGC a message and tell them that it\'s spelled "Xbox", not "X-Box"?

There were these evil rumors that GTA series had been bought by Sony, and would stay with Sony for 4 years..

Those rumours started in forums.  Every authoritative chanel has reported that it is still being released.

I could care less, I think it\'s a terrible game and gets very old, very fast.

Not many dislike GTA3. That\'s like someone saying that they don\'t like sex. :)

I didn\'t dislike it either at first, but after I played it for about a week or two it gets really boring.  The game\'s concept is so utterly flawed...ugh, don\'t get me into this.

Some links would be nice.. Cuz people have emailed/called Rockstar and they said they had no comment.
Hmm.. If it HAS been announced.. Why would they say "no comment"?

Okay, everything that makes GTA3 a bad game:

Knocking off pedestrians is fun but the AI is so utterly pathetic that it makes them a waste of processing power.  There is no challenge to taking out a bystander--absolutely none.  While beating one of these people to death the rest of the populus walk on by as if nothing is happening.  Why do they even have them in the game?  They don\'t make a realistic effort to get out of the way--the move slowly and predictably so you can kill them easily.  Clearly they were put in the game for this very reason and it is an utter waste.  Remove them from the streets and maybe one or two of the major problems to the graphics engine could be improved.

Between the cars that are essentially the same and those that you want to drive in the first place there really aren\'t that many to chose from.

The game is easy.

Way too many missions are terrible (phone booth hopping to kill this guy, to help me escape to sniping these guys)--very rarely is this fun or again tough.

The whole police/star system is completely unbalanced.  1 star anyone can outrun the cops--no problem.  2 stars it\'s a little tricky, but doable.  After that is nearly impossible (it can be done at 3 though) without the use of the paint and spray.  The police AI is pathetic--they drive terribly--often crashing all by themselves, put up road blocks that don\'t stop anything, etc.

One of the worst engines I\'ve ever seen.  Road blocks/buildings etc appear 10 feet in front of you, terrible fogging, slowdown, clipping--you name it, it\'s in this engine.

It is not a "living" city as the game boasts.  Commit a crime and police do not chase you down, they appear on the next block.  Same goes for rival gang members, etc.  Trying to outrun the cops, as if by magic a road block is formed.  This is lazy programming and takes you right out of the experience.

Far too easy to steal cars--because of this the experience isn\'t fun or rewarding for very long.  The damage model of the game is completely unrealistic--the cars get wrecked far too quickly.  Blowing up cars happens too often and too easily--after a while this no longer excites.  If they made it tougher to blow up cars it would happen less frequently and prolong the thrill of the game.  it doesn\'t, it happens every 5 minutes and thus becomes boring.  This last bit applies to almost every aspect of the game, but everything about this games happens very quickly, often and with very little effort or skill.

You can have the FBI after you in the middle of a huge shoot out and the people and traffic are unaffected by this--again it is as if nothing is happening.  Occasionally a panic will hit them, but it either doesn\'t last very long or doesn\'t happen at all.

What about a persistent world?--at least while within the same city.  This is the "next" generation.

And the AI--damn is it bad.  Walk around the corner and kill them in piles.  They jsut keep come and keep dying.  This too is lazy programming.

Everything I want in a game isn\'t here: good AI, a long challenge, replayability, a good graphics engine, some depth of gameplay.  This is a game that offers only violence.  Violence for violence\'s sake.  Rockstar wanted controversy because controversy sells and it popular.  I was reading a different forum and one person was saying basically the same things I am and he asked the question: "If this game was set in the forest and you could blow away squirrels and chipmunks with an assortment of weapons only to have Smokey the Bear and Boy scouts chase after you--would this still be a popular game?"  No probably not.

I got the game for christmas, did manage to finish all the missions, but I will never play this game ever again.  I played it for about two weeks.

well then why did they say it as PGC in the article :p

anyway i think it should stay exclusive to sony

and of course people would like to say why would you want that you freaking sony fanboy - but alas you are wrong i just want all the systems to have games exlcusive to them - like xbox and gc has some 3rd party games that are great and not coming anywhere else - its just one of those things that makes for good competition

see what im saying

 Man....you want the fun factor to go down, doncha? Sometimes making a game too realistic can also take the fun out of it. Run a red light, cops are after you. You don\'t pull over, two stars = mulitple cops(just like in real life). Imagine having to stop at every freaking red light in this game = boring.

Well, it may not have been fun for you.....but it was for the other millions of gamers.

I never said I wanted the cops to come after you on a red light.  Did you miss every thing I was saying?  Besides I\'ve talked to quite a few of the "millions" and most of them have grown tired of it too.  It really doesn\'t offer that much.

I didn\'t quote you, did I? Nope.

I was just going by your opinion that it wasn\'t realistic enough so I made a suggestion about the red light and how it could make the fun factor in the game go down.

And in real life, if you run away from a cop (one star) will turn into 5 stars - whole lotta cops.

I never said I wanted realism (except for car damage model--it\'s annoying to steal a new car every five minutes).  Everything else that I asked for was better AI, better engine, better gameplay.  You were not going by my opinion, I don\'t want a realistic game, I want a fun game not cheap thrills for a couple weeks.

I also said I want to be able to get away from more than 3 cops--this isn\'t realistic, but this would be fun.  They let you do anything you want, but when you start doing too much they shut you down.  Rockstar couldn\'t be bothered to actually put AI in their cops so they just made it impossible after 3 stars.  Lazy and boring.

Before you paraphrase someone, try to read and understand the material.

I read it all and what it all boils down to is the fun factor. But why bother debating? No matter what I say, you\'ll come up with another wrong opinion. :p j/k!

You didn\'t have fun, fine. We did. Return it. Sell it on Ebay for a hundred dollars.
