How do I know that I\'m getting the latest version of the console? Would any new ps2 at wal-mart be of the 30001R version?
thank you for any feedback

ALL new PS2s are SCPH-30001R
the have the updated DVD driver [2.10] so that you dont need to install the driver from the cd that comes with the DVD remote onto a memory card

30001R is not the latest version. I did a thread about this. 30001R is simply the MODEL NUMBER.
Theres two 30001R consoles, version 4 and version 5 (newest).
You need to take the expasion bay off at the back...
If the cover has metal rim and theres no screw its V4.
If the cover is plastic and theres a screw its V5.

oooo that verion number...also you can check on the back of your PS2..where it has the letter U and a bunch of numbers...
**Model 30001**
If it begins with u1 you have version 1
If it begins with u0 you have version 2
(Note: Some PS2s with serial number u2
may have a version 3 board.)
If it begins with u0 you have version 3
(Note: Some PS2s with serial number u2
may have a version 4 board.)
If it begins with u3 you have version 4
If it begins with u4 you have version 4
If it begins with u5 you have version 4
If it begins with u6 you have version 4
If it begins with u0 / Date code 1C you have version 4
If it begins with u2 / Date code 1C you have version 4
**Model 30001R**
If it begins with u1 you have version 5
If it begins with u3 you have version 5

What is the DVD driver number in the latest version(v5)?

the above version numbers i posted up are US PS2s
as for the latest driver for the PS2 on v5 is v2.10 the same one you get when you buy the SONY PS2 DVD remote and load the driver onto your memory card
