Title: PS2 Quality of DVD playback
Post by: nikos on January 13, 2002, 09:03:44 PM
I read a post about some problems with Fast & Furious...
From your experience, how does the DVD playback compares that of a stand alone DVD player?

I\'ve heard some bad comments, and some very nice ones. Should I count on my soon-to-come PS2 for movie playback & sell my DVD or just keep the PS2 for games only?

If you have a DVD player, you should keep it, becuz some movies can\'t play on the PS2...

I don\'t have a DVD player so I don\'t have any other choice...it\'s never given me any problems though...playback wise.

EviscerationX, thanx for the reply.
When you say it doesn\'t play some titles you mean it won\'t play them no matter what? Maybe there is a problem with the dvd driver or something, after all there IS a sony inside..

I\'d love to save me some money by selling the DVD player, I think I\'ll just try it and see what happens, i can always sell it later

Yeah...saving money is good.

When it doesn\'t play a movie...it says "Disc Read Error"...which really sucks. When it does play a movie, though, it plays it fluidly without any problems.

Everyone else I know has problems with theirs...so...just wait and see how yours turns out. I\'ve had mine for over a year now...hasn\'t quit on me yet...:)

Keep the DVD player and use Ps2 for games.

In an ideal world, you\'ll have a dedicated DVD player for movies, and your PS2 for games, as most players offer superior playback.

Having said that, with decent connections, the quality of the PS2 playback is very good, and as to some DVD\'s not working on the PS2, you\'ll find that from time to time, this also happen with players i.e. the Matrix didn\'t work on most Samsung players.

Sorry guys, but that´s NOT CORRECT !
The PS2 has no problems with any DVD... DVD has with PS2 !
Let me explain: ANY DVD Player has problems with some DVDS... that´s because of the lag of a true DVD standard ! Some DVD Stand Alone Players can´t play THE MATRIX or some other DVD !
So, if you allready got a DVD Player... keep it, but don´t say that the PS2 is a bad DVD Player, because that´s not true !!! Infact it´s exellent in picture and sound !
...and I only had ONE DVD that won´t play at the end (Star Trek) by 100+ tested !!!

I have over 70 DVD\'s only one -Judge Dredd :eyemouth: has stopped working when the dual layering pause kicks in, also have stand alone DVD and can honestly say there is NO detectable difference in picture quality, as above says has all connections to hook up a good sound system.
Considering the price drop in PS2\'s i can\'t see a good reason not to buy one for DVD\'s, you get a great all round system for a low price.
