I have recently heard rumours of a new Atari console....Firstly, someone in the Edge forums claimed Atari were planning a "final strike" and at the end of the actual Edge magazine was a picture of the Atari logo, with the caption "A legend Returns"
If these rumours are true, then stuff the Lunchbox, Outlandish Hi-Fi, and VCR.....I want a real console!
Of course, these rumours are probably not true....does anyone know anything on this?

the last console Atari put out was the Jaguar back in 95, I had one......too bad they dropped it after 3 years......it WAS the FIRST 64-bit system BTW......no Big name Vdeo game companys supported it except UBI Soft (Rayman) and a couple of other ones.

Umm Infogrames bought the Atari name and is using it to promotye games like Splashdown
so if there is a new Atari console it won\'t be named Atari or will it be made by the Atari corporation which no longer exists
and there is no way on gods green earth that Atari could come up with a console capable of competiung against Nintendo, MS, and Sony.
you half to realize that to be succesful you have to be able to spend billions of dollars on a console start up and hope you can make the money back within a few years. So unless you are MS or Sony or another huge corporation you are not making a console
and the PS2, Xbox and GC are as real as any console gets

I thought Atari was just a name now and not a company. Hasbro had it and now Infrogrames has it.
I find it unlikely that anyone would be making a new console now since there would definetly be alot more rumors floating around (remember the Xbox stuff?).

i SEVERELY doubt another atari console is coming after the jag failed. and it was far from a *true* 64 bit unit. it ran 4 16 bit processors in tandom, hence the phrase " do the math" that accompanied the advertising

NOW that would be sad to try too see atari to try to come back.........nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony would kill them!!!!
-
But that would be interesting if atari made a comeback and actually did well. Personally, i never had the chance to own a jag or jag cd, but now im going back and playing all the failed systems and some games were really kool. My cusins have a 3DO, lol:laughing:. Amazingly there is a huge atari (jag) underground in and out of Europe. While the prices are still kinda high its still pretty interesting dont ya think.
