Title: Tolerable but flawed picture w/1yr old PS2!!
Post by: phenolite on January 15, 2002, 08:25:42 PM
GAH!  Well, just got myself a new 27" tv, w/component in (mmm)...problem is, when i use my damn ps2, there are faint lines in the picture (there were on my old tv, friend has old tv, he see\'s no lines).  So i\'m thinkin it is my ps2, like the a/v connector in back has gone to crap, also, when i watch dvd, or play a non-fullscreen game (ie. ffx), the black margin on top is...well, crooked...i actually measured the left and right height of the margin, there was a 1/8" difference...dunno if this is ok, etc. but the lines kinda piss me off...anyone have any suggestions?

it is one of the 1st ps2\'s made, got it 12/28/01 (1 yr ago) thank you very much!

well the 1st question is

did you have this probelm with the old TV

cause its kinda strange that it showed up on the new one

does it happen when you hook it up to a different TV ???

It may be the new TV

In FFX, the margins are actually a bit slanted.... but not to much so that is a problem.

It happened on the old tv, my dreamcast also had lines, and has no lines that i know of on the new tv (dc uses standard a/v) i will hook up ps2 on other tv, see if it works ok (like i said tho, my friend has a brand new ps2, and his system works great on my old tv)

thanx for the responses :) you guys are FAST

I should probably learn to read things before I reply

I guess it is something with the PS2

There is a slight chance that where you have your TV there is some sort of interference

but if it is your PS2 then your options are limited to contacting Sony, or buying a new PS2 put the old PS2 in the new box and return it claiming it to be busted

someone recommended the following:  move my ps2 from out below my tv.  ie. there is some interference because my ps2 is underneath my tv, on a shelf.  my dreamcast barely has any distortion :) as it used to have distortion on the older tv.  i will try this and post my results (maybe others have this problem?)

are you using the cable that come with the ps2???

if you can use a scart on you r old tv, get a full scart as the one the ps2 comes with is not a full scart, but be warned if you play a dvdv through it, it comes out green, but a dvd region x gets rid of it!1

I am using some sony\'s component jacks, i was using regular a/v cables...not sure what a scart is...

Make sure there are no magnetic fields around your tv.  Stereos, speakers, hairdryers, fans.

I don\'t think that\'s what it is though.  The only way for sure would be for you to test another PS2 on your TV.  You might try renting one (Hastings/Blockbuster if you live in U.S.)
Title: SOLUTION!!!

This is my setup: have cable running to...bout 5 tv\'s, line to pc for cable, which is spliced for tv tuner.  The line going to my room apparently is crap.  When i disconnect the cable while in component/video1, the lines go away...basically, check yer cable, if you have a bad picture on ps2, disconnect cable and see if pic improves...woo
