Ha ha ha.

Quote
In a consent judgment approved this week by U.S. District Judge David F. Hamilton, Indianapolis has agreed to pay the video game industry $318,000 for lawyers\' fees and other costs.

This is good news for gamers everywhere. :)  Trying to ban playing video games, and blaming video games for life\'s problems, is really stupid.  I hope the rest of America learns a lesson from Indianapolis\' mistake.

That judge is totally right.It\'s very unconstitutional to do that.It\'s not really right to ban anything but that\'s good news.

Well it seems that people think that video games are a violent root.  Even people like my grandma, if she gives me money she always says "dont buy any of those voilent video games".  b/c she knows that i buy at least 2 new games every month!  Its reallt the person playin the video games, not the video games them selves, but anyway i wouldnt care if the banned it, i already bought my copy.

It would never get banned. Nor did I ever believe it would

there is a rating system and we also have a thing called the constitution

If anyone is going to be punished for GTA3 it will be the stores selling it to minors

This is so true, parents are always looking for a reason for why there kid is ****ed up in the head, usually its not the video games or tv, its just the parents.

I have always wondered what the judge does on those little "recesses" they have.  Now I know they get together and play GTA3.

Its good to hear it isn\'t banned. Someone from school said that they keep coming out with new versions of sensored GTA3 and take the others off the shelves. I think he\'s full of crap. Is he or is it true?

Hmm, It sure is funny to see people talk about this.  Especialy since alot of these people that responded to this post are not even 18.  Now dont get me wrong I would never want to see anything get banned.  But it is little punks like you that ruin it for everyone else,  SO those people see that these rating systems are NOT working because noone really enforces the rule, and thats when the \'banning\' topic gets hotter.

I have this game and I love playing it.  But I do not play while my kids are awake and I DO NOT think it is for KIDS under the age of 18.  Now if your parents buy this game for you, fine have fun, they know you better than the government does.  But MOST 16 and 17 year olds do not have nor show the maturity level too comprehend right from wrong.

So if you are not 18 STOP RUINING IT FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE.

There is such a thing as freedom of speech no matter what the age.Calling anyone a punk without even really knowing them does not seem very fair.Beware of the replies you may receive from this.Myself I think you need to be more polite.By the way I am over 18:burn:

It all comes down to common sence. It isn\'t the developers fault for all these social events of school shootings, crime, etc etc.

The customer makes the decision in buying a game, the marketing just pursuades others in buying it. I never once saw a commercial that stated within it "You must buy this console otherwise we will kill you!".

I think nobody, at least in the states have the authority in banning any kind of game that doesn\'t break any laws.

And last I checked, I never once saw videogames being "unconstitutional"

I rest my case

First off, jm, I like your avatar. Second off, what do you mean we are ruining it? I\'m 15 and I think I\'m can decide for myself if a game is mature or not for me. Just because we\'re under 18 doesn\'t mean that we ruin the game for others. You think the rating system is on because of kids? Partially yes but the real reason is because parents are too dumb to research a game before they buy it. I think the game is mature enough for teenagers. I got the origional GTA when I was like 12. Games don\'t warp kids minds so I don\'t know what you are talking about. Its dumb decisions kids make on their own. The reason it is being pushed to be banned is because of the blood and violence and killings. The governments don\'t think it is suitable for society NOT because of kids.

Well I never said that you ruin the game, thats crazy.  However, the way the game ends up in minors hands is why these people yell about banning them. Then just like  in the original post our (adults) taxmoney goes to bring this crap to court.  You think the game is mature enough for teens? The question is is are teens mature enough for the game? Most cases no.

I also never said that games \'warp\' kids minds either, the fact is is that it is illegal for kids to buy them. So when the rating system does not keep these games out of your reach, what\'s left for watchdog groups to do, try and ban them.  And the rating system is a good idea because it lets \'dumb\' parents like me know whats up with a product and if it is suitable for kids.

The only fact I spoke of is that kids buy these games, most of the time without parents consent. So how do we control this???

And remember all those dumb decisions that kids make have an effect on you directly, you may not think so but again thats why you are a minor till the age of 18.  Did life change a bit at your school after Columbine? I am sure it did and you did not even know those guys.

It\'s the parents that buy these games and then complain. Kids don\'t buy them. If parents were responsible enough to research games (which isn\'t hard now with the internet) they could decide for themselves. Certain teens are mature enough to play them. I\'m 15 and I own MGS2 and GTA3, the two most violent games I own. It has no effect on me. I don\'t mean to bud into your life but how old are your kids?
Title: Think GTA3 will be banned in America? Think again...
Post by: Intolerant on January 25, 2002, 12:57:41 PM
They are 7 and 5.  Not quite old enogh to comprehend.  And like I previously said.  I could really care less if parents buy a mature game for kids, that is thier right.  I know of no parents that go buy mature games and then complain about them, thats ludicris. (I should know because I coach thier kids along with mine and volunteer my time too kids so I talk to alot of other parents)

So if those posts I wrote pisses any of you teens off I am sorry, that\'s life.  But, guess what, if this topic was to go too vote, wheather it be banning or a new rating system guess who decides that?  Not teenagers, you know why, you are not old enough and that is the bottom line.  You don\'t like it, too bad.

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Good thing you do play GTA3 when your kids are gone. Even if they did see it, i doubt that they would actually understand what\'s going on. I think the rating system in the US is pretty good. Also, GTA3 is way too mature for people under 15 or 14.

First off, most of the people who post here are of the ages 17 and up. I think our oldest member is in his mid 40\'s. Find a "What\'s your age" thread and browse through it before claiming that we\'re all just a bunch of "young punks".

Second point. The Government makes for piss poor parents. It\'s not the developers fault these games are falling into the hands of children.. is the parents fault. Plain and simple. Those ratings are there for a reason.. if you choose to ignore them when buying a game for your kinds then that\'s YOUR fault. A parent must also instill in their kids the sence to tell the drifference between right and wrong. Videogames, music, movies, ect can be a powerful outlets for expressing inner rage and emotion without actually causing harm to someone. However, if you let the media raise your children for you.. then they will undoubtably be raised with the media\'s morals. As stated before, it\'s not the media\'s job to raise your children for you.. so why are people offended when the media puts out content that\'s not appropriate for their children??

Oh, and BTW: If people are so concerned about their kids buying M rated games without their concent, then perhaps they should take just a few minuites from their day and parouse their childrens videogame collections... and weed out anything they don\'t approve of... or at least TALK to their children about them, preferably WHILE they\'re playing these violent games. Maybe it\'s just the way I was raised, but privacy is something you earn through trust.. it\'s a privlage, not a right. There are far more things in this world which children deal with daily that are worse than what\'s in your average M rated videogame... expecially when you consider that they are REAL and not fantasy.

While his mommy is picketing for videogame censorship, little Timmy is probably flipping through his porno collection ~ the size of which his father would envy.

umm, exactly what is that supposed to mean?  Am I "acting" in a bad manor because I have an opinion?  Am I not allowed to express my concerns and thoughts to others?  Is that not one of the reasons for a message board?

You see this is exactly what I am talking about.

And btw Sonyfan I did look at the "age" of these posts so pthh!!  lol

SNL\'s weekend update had a joke that kind of applies to this situation.  It went something like this:

"A young boy was found guilty today of stabbing his sister over Pokemon cards.  For those curious, \'Pokemon\' is a Japanese word for \'this week\'s excuse.\'"

Ain\'t it the truth.

What it meant was they don\'t hold themselves above anybody else, while you play yourself off to be more mature and what not.

Well maybe "little punks" was too strong a title for people.  So therfore I apologize. I might have been a bit outta line.  But other than that Yes I do feel I am somewhat more mature than minors are.  Just through life experiences and knowing the consequences of my actions no matter how trivial they may be.

And you telling me that I "hold" myself above others and I play myself to be more mature.....what a crock!  It\'s such a typical response from a child that does not care to hear the truth when they hear it.  If you go back and read my posts (other than my bad comment on punks) I never took the stand that I am better than anyone else.  I have an absolute right as a parent and an adult too express my feelings about minors and video games.  Actually the \'little punks\' line was a label for the minors that buy the games without the parents consent. NOT that I feel that way about all kids.

And before you go off half-cocked, yes you have a right to speak your mind as well.  Just make sure you know what your talking about first.

Ok, let me get this straight, you called us little punks, then you admitted to knowing that no matter how trivial an action was there was consequences, and then you label kids again.  Well maybe, just maybe I said you hold yourself above people because of that "little punks" comment, and I already pointed out that you know the consequences to the most trivial things.
