Title: Who Has NBA 2K2...?
Post by: Richard on January 16, 2002, 07:53:00 PM
It seems the only retailer that has it are Electronics Boutique and maybe one other the debate has been as to when the game was coming out, but several have it today.  Do you?
I live in Mayberry so I’m waiting on my local KB Toy Works to get it, KB or Wal-Mart one.

How about the Indiana Milwaukee game…? C’mon Pacers…

I have it and I\'m 3 games into the season with my Lakers. Picked it up at Electronics Boutique today. The game is great! The AI will kick your a** though if you relax too much on "D". The graphics are sweet and the gameplay is tight!  EA has got some serious work to do if they even want to compete. It\'s obvious that Sega and Visual Concepts are taking their basketball series very seriously!!  :bounce:

i didnt like NBA2k2...the graphics are nice but the characters dont even look like the real counterparts. the gameplay is totally awkward to me..the button layout is confusing...i like Live 2002 better. when you try to steal, you actually give an intential foul. its kinda hard to steal. theres barely any blocking. and for the turbo, it doesnt even seem like turbo

Yeah how is that NBA 2K2 for the PS2?

I own it for my Dreamcast, I\'m a huge fan of the series. I own all the NBA 2K series. I actually found 2K2 right at home. Finally the A.I. is better and you can perform more moves (Roll over for example or the fade away jumper).

I felt though somethings could indeed change. Authentic sneakers is a plus, but only Allen Iverson\'s? Call me a player hater, I totaly hate "The Answer" and I\'m so glad they got my man Tracy McGrady doing the 2K3 series. I would have liked more of a variety of sneakers. Maybe more stylish tatoos also?

Coach faces also are indeed pretty pathetic. I know a huge difference in Phil Jackson\'s face in NBA2K and then seeing it in NBA2K1 and NBA2K2, and it looks nothing like him! Michael Jordan\'s face looks nothing like him, either, but never mind that. It\'s not like he\'s part of my team, anyways.

I also would have liked to see some more authentic features such as stadium theme music. I liked it how they actually made the PA announcer more realistic.

Oh well, if NBA2K3 is that good, I\'m buying whatever console it comes out for who does the title the best.

I don\'t know what these guys are talking about...THE GAME IS THE TRUTH, PERIOD.  If you like Basketball in the slightest way you should pick this game up PRONTO.  NBA Live hasn\'t been good since 99\'.  The series is stale and WEAK.

Comparing NBA 2K2 to the Live series is like comparing apples to oranges. I have to admitt, the Live series have absoutly nothing going for it other than exceptional graphics, but damn does the gameplay suck.

I can spend $50 bucks better than that. Go buy yourself something different.

Ok. I\'ve been playing more games in the season mode and although I think that the game is good there is one thing that annoys the s*** out of me. It\'s the fact that the computer can\'t freakin miss!!! Trust me. Lets put it this way. If you really play hard D you can at best get the computer to shoot around 52%. Therefore if you don\'t play tight D every time you go down the court (which can get tiring on your hands) it is easy for the computer to shoot around 60% consistently The computer just doesn\'t miss and I\'m not just talking about any team. I\'m talking about run-of-the-mill teams like Memphis. It\'s a little unrealistic

And one more thing:

I don\'t see what the heck is so great about the way free throws are done in this series. Personally I prefer the way live does free throws. I mean for me I find that I can make free throws pretty good. But this is the point. If I\'m such a great free throw shooting player than it won\'t matter for me whether Kobe Bryant is at the line or Shaq. The point is that I think they need to implement some way to take the players\' free throw percentages into account.

Well, I got the game today. Wish I would have brought Live home instead.  NBA2K2\'s graphics suck and as bandit said the controls are confusing... waste of 53 bucks now i have to go buy live 02
tomorrow what a waste...

live and learn i guess. i haver played live for bout four years i guess and the control has always been great to me as well as EVERYTHING elsle.  this is what i get for listening to the DC fanboys i guess... anyway can\'t wait to get live 02 home tomorrow and tomorrows a fridat to boot :P

don\'t buy 2k2 - you\'ve been warned

Well, how could you say that NBA 2K2\'s graphics are subpar? Sure, it\'s not that advanced looking from it\'s Dreamcast counterpart, but it has some noticable additions (such as them cheer leaders and media press on the side lines, the DC version never had that.) It moves most the time at 60fps, with the exception if the camera angle changes (if you have the End view, it swirls everytime you switch baskets, but theres an option to disable that.)

I think the controls are the best done for the series. At least on the DC. I am not sure how diffuclt it is for you PS2 gamers.

I also felt the practice session could have been better done. If I recall, each practice gym is unique with it\'s logo, no? I wish there was someway you could practice your drills. Just staring at the drill screen doesn\'t do a thing for me.

BTW, glad you like the avatarr :D

I\'m willing to bet Richard is disappointed he got Live 2002, I had it when it first came out and took it back, due to the awfull game play, especially the rebounding(which almost game me a coniption fit)
but 2k2 is the greatest round ball game ever made, and this comes from a guy that has taken back live 2001, 2002, and NBA street, in other words I\'m very critical.

Took Back NBA Street

I\'d say your missing out on some great games - yes it does get dull at times - as does every title published.

BTW - How might you be taking all these games back - I\'d like to take NBA 2K2 back.

is far and the way the best basketball game ever made. Live is light years behind this.

Yes, it takes alittle time to get used to the configuration, but once you do, its awesome. Playability, realism etc. ...it has it all. No other games are even remotely close.

in live2002 i always won by at least 50, but in 2k2 i just finished a triple overtime win with my Kings, it was great, my boy Peja hit a J off of a crossover to put me up by 2 with 4 seconds left in the third OT, then Miami called timeout.  They inbound to jones, Peja comes on the double and steals the ball to preserve the win.
