Title: Crazy Finns.. Overclocking a P4 2.2GHz to 3675MHz
Post by: fastson on January 17, 2002, 06:09:53 PM
Read here (http://www.muropaketti.com/artikkelit/cpu/northwood2200/ln2/index.phtml)

Cool stuff :)
They used liquid nitrogen to cool a Pentium IV 2.2GHz so they could overclock it to 3675MHz.

Some pics

Hmm.. why are the first words to come to my mind "Snap, Crackle, Pop"? Yer right, they are crazy... that\'s the first PC I\'ve seen with it\'s own Cooling tower reminicent of a Nuclear Powerplant.

Interesting indeed...with a couple of inherent design flaws.

That is pretty cool.  I don\'t think it is very stable though.  I\'d say it runs for about 30 minutes to an hour before it crashes. :)

Yes this is pretty darn cool, apparently the P4 Northwood overclocks like the good\'ol Celeron 300A.

This also reminds me of another project a while back, but they used a very different approach than these guys.

The results weren\'t stunning, but hey...it worked more or less.

Looks like Pepsi in that cup.....:nerd: Also, even though it\'s clocked over 3Gig.... It\'s STILL a Pentium:laughing:

Well, I got my Athalon 1600 (1.39Mhz) overclocked to a 1800 (1.53Mhz), that will have to do for now:):)

tee hee it would be pretty darn slow if it was a blazing fast 1,53Mhz, I belive you mean Ghz :p

Ohh and it\'s Athlon :)

I\'ve heard of AMD\'s in oil-baths.. 250% overclocking.
Nice.
And it all happends in Scandinavia ;)

Without doubt is a 2.2 -> 3.6Ghz overclock spectacular. But would anyone go out of their way and buy Liquid-Nitrogen just so they can get their 2.2Ghz processors to 3.6? I wouldn\'t. Those are the people who perform stress tests. If I recall, this was a big thing when AMD released their AYJHA stepping Athlon (which I currently own, 1.4 @ 1.57).

I\'m more impressed with the 2.2 to 3.0Ghz overclock with standard air-cooling. That\'s pretty cool to me.

That overclock to achieve a 3.6Ghz level, he had to sacrifice a lot. Running Windows ME? Hell no. 128MB of ram? Are you kidding me? GeForce 2? You get the point. He doesn\'t even have a case for that thing. Chances are that the life-span for that processor is no more than 2 months max.
