I was just looking at the new OPM (the one with the timesplitters2 demo) and they were showing home entertainment packages ranging from like $500 to $10,000.
They showed a poor mans surround sound made up of 4 computer speakers made by logitech and a 9" sub. They said it\'s pretty good for the amount it costs. (around $180) I was wondering if anyone has heard this or knows if it would be worth buying.... I mean would a cheap ass system like this make playing a movie or videogame with surround sound alot cooler?
Thanks for you opinions.

Would this (http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=kenhtb504) be too much for you?

5 speakers, 100-watt powered sub, and fully loaded 100wx5 receiver for $385. There are cheaper ones but this is one of the best bang per buck.

Well I am in school and only have a part time job but I could swing $400 I think. Care to give me a bit more info on them, ie the brand and where to get them. Thanks THX it sounds like a much better deal.
-
Those look very impressive.
Perhaps if you want to enchance your hearing expirence, invest in some Monster cable. Well worth the investment.
-
for four hundred dollars you could by 8 games. weigh out your choices!!!
-
Well there isn\'t 8 games I really want to own right now. Surround sound is where it\'s at. DVD, Video Games, and Regular TV are all just that much better with a good surround sound.
-
That\'s exactly how I feel Dajo. Besides I just had to send in my stupid PS2 for the 2nd time to get fixed, so no games for me right now. But THX could you give me a bit more info on those please...
Thanks man.

Well dark, just follow the link there. It\'s the Kenwood HTB-504. Costs around $500 at retail stores (ie- Circuit City), but etronics has it for $385.
It comes with DD, DTS, DPL II, CS 5.1, and many DSP modes (though I only use the first 5 I listed). You can\'t buy a better deal than this. DPL II is just sooo amazing when watching regular cable, VHS, and other 2-channel sources. I use CS 5.1 for GT 3 and the game engulfs you with the sound of revving engines moving from your left to your right.
It is fully compatible with your PS2 with 2 optical and 2 coaxial digital inputs. The sub kicks with room rumbling sound and I haven\'t heard mine bottom out after it was broken in.
Only gripe is the speakers. They sound hollow with very little warmth. You can always upgrade to a new speaker package later, but they are strictly made for movies. Music will show where they really hurt.
You did see the link in my earlier post right? :)

No THX I only saw the link after you said there was one there :D
But thanks for the info.... What kind of hookup cables do you use THX? Do they make a huge difference in sound quality?
-
There are a couple kids freaking out because they apparently ran right out and bought the Logitec system and now can\'t figure out how to hook the stuff up. I took a look around a bit and never was able to find a list of inputs on that thing so maybe it takes some extra effort to get hooked up. Apparently it was designed for use with a PC... which I definitely don\'t think is the way to go.
THX has the right idea there.

Weird; Thats what I happen to have [Kenwood too]... I bought them 2 Years or so ago though so they were more then that at the time...
Never had a problem with the Sound...

I was thinking of getting the bose cube speakers. Have you guys heard anything about these? thanks
-
Don\'t believe the marketing. Bigger IS better for speakers, Bose\'s cube system is a prime example. There are many better options for that kind of money. Look at Energy\'s Take 5.2 speaker system.
No highs, no lows, must be BOSE.

You mean Better Off Somewhere Else... Bose?
You know, I just drove past a BOSE building yesterday, maybe I\'ll go see what it is.
