If not, is there any add-on which allows you to play VCDs?
Hope someone can help me :O)

I have tried and it hasnt worked for me, i asked souldgrind a while back and he was pretty sure that the ps2 could not play them, altho i have seen tutorials all over the internet showing you a special way to burn the cd\'s so it would work, too complicated for me tho.
I have also heard rumors that the Hard drive will come with the neccessary files for the vcd\'s to work, hope thats true:)

Thanks matey :O)
I\'m actually in the process of buying a Region X thingy to play Region1 DVDs, but I was hoping that would work...anyways... Hard Drive, I can wait for that :O)
Yayyyyyyyyyy, Metal Gear Solid soon...*excited*

Even if you copy the Region X disc from Datel, it won\'t work on the PS2 if you don\'t have a m0dchip. It simply refuses to boot.

So you mean, even if I buy the Region X thing for £20, I still won\'t be able to play Region 1 DVDs?
What theeeeeeeeee :O( I hope I got this wrong...please tell me :O)

Region X lets you play all regions . . . I dont have to worry coz I found a button code for my propper dvd and it made it fully multi region.

FluKe... he wasn´t talking about a "copy" of the Region X !
Region X is for DVDs only and works great !!!
VCDs won´t play on your PS2 - not yet...

Too many... and about a Datel Disk and about a special Mod and and and...

Ok then, guess i misunderstood. ;)
The PS2 CAN play VCD\'s and mp3\'s if you write a player for it. Anything can be done. It just don\'t support it \'out of the box\'
But even if someone wrote a player and burned it on a disc the PS2 still wouldn\'t play it since it won\'t boot the disc \'cause it\'s a cd-r copy. (but if you had a m0dchip it would boot)
What\'s really intresting is the DVD update player that copies itself on the memory card. If someone could copy that file over to the PC and debug it, they could implement a region selector, since zones are determined in software and not hardware. (that\'s why the Region X works, because it\'s a stand-alone dvd player) And the copy it back to the memory card. The problem is that the file is protected with MagicGate. I really hope Sony releases the Linux kit for the PS2 in the west, \'cause then we could see an explosion of utilities for the PS2 such as mp3 players, vcd and dvd players (multi region) and probably divx players too.. (that could be a little harder)
...just some thoughts.... ;)
