Should I get DSL? If you have a high speed access, can you tell me your monthly rates and your speed? I am REALLY sick of waiting for stuff to download and playing laggy online games!!! Thanks for you help!
-
My cable\'s always been good to me. Most of the time I\'m only limited by speeds of other servers. I\'ve had downloads of up to 500k/s.
Of course I\'ve never tried DSL.

Thanks Rob, i guess no one other than you wants to help me but you.

TO HELL WITH THEM

Cable modem is consistently faster than DSL and cost the same.
If you\'ve got Roadrunner, get that. I\'ve heard the speed on their cable is the beast.

I have DSL and I love it. I don\'t have cable, nor is it offered in my area so I had to go with it. Very comparable though. My line hauls ass so I\'m happy. And you don\'t have any extra wiring to do since youprobably have a phone line near your computer anyway.
-
can you set it up yourself, or does someone have to come and do it? i really dont wanna pay for a setup
-
you do it yourself. They come in, make sure you get a clear line signal, then leave you to your own self to hook it up to your computer.
-
99.9% of all setups I\'ve seen are free modem, free installation, and like 3 free months. The only thing is that you need to sign a contract saying that you will stick with it and pay your monthly 50 dollar (roughly) fee for like a year or so after the three month free period. Be warned though, it all really depends on where you live.
If you are in a densely populated area with lots of kids and computer savvy adults, your cable speeds might be compromised during peek hours with possible speed download and upload caps. SOme caps slow you to roughly 50k/sec downloads in the most extreme cases (where i live). I use DSL, last night, I was rolling with over 400k/sec in seperate downloads while uploading a mere 11k/sec as well. Cable is much faster, but that\'s pointless if your area is filled with people who have it and with people who use it constantly since you all are virtually sharing the same bandwidth.

I know that cable can be slow at times if many people in your area are using it, but how big is the "area" that we are talking about
-
My friend has Comcast cable and he lives in Washington DC. He doesn\'t get very many slow downs during peak times. Trust me, we have a LOT of people on cable modem in this area.

hmm....cable sounds like a better choice for me. i live where there are a LOT of rich old people, where AOHell is rampant. Believe me, i work at target and tens of people come it every day just to get the "1000 hours free 7.0 disk!!!". Woohoo. Thanks, now i just gotta follow through and get it. *wonders what lag free gaming and fast downloads are like*
