Stephen King announced yesterday that he will no longer be publishing any novels. He said he no longer wanted to keep producing the same storylines and characters and go the ways of Danielle Steel and such.
I personally think its a good move, but why not just switch to a different genre besides horror? I always thought S.K. to be an okay writer but a great storyteller. My favorites of his were "The Shining", "The Dead Zone", and surprisingly "On Writing". You will be missed Stephen King.

Who?
Nah.. I\'m just not a big fan of books. Movies are better. :)
-
He\'s already written in other genres. I\'m glad he\'s quitting, and he should have done it 10 years ago. I\'ve found that his novels always seem unpolished to me, and they bear a certain immaturity in style. I can\'t quite put my finger on it, but no SK novel has ever riveted me the way some other writers have. I don\'t know why everyone likes him so much. Maybe because he always writes in the same way, and he churns out so much material. Perhaps some readers find comfort in knowing exactly what they\'re going to get from a Stephen King book. He should have edited himself more over the years instead of constantly going for the cash.
-
he needs to continue my two favorite, eye of the dragon and gunslinger
they were better than any horror crap he ever wrote
-
Never been too much of a SK fan... but I\'ve read a fair deal of his stuff.
-
Nooooo!!! He MUST finish the Dark Tower series.
As for horror, welllll...he\'s made his mark, and it\'s probably time to bow out gracefully. His new mini-series, Rose Red...group of psychics in haunted house...not exactly original material. Interesting none-the-less. He has written some great horror - try The Stand or It, or even Pet Semetary if you\'ve never tried Stephen King.
-
Agreed Sara.I\'ve spent to many years of my life waiting for the next books in the Dark Tower series. He would\'nt just leave us hanging like this would he?
-
I know what you mean! It\'s averaging about 4-5 years between installments. I honestly don\'t think he\'d just leave us hanging. From the interviews I\'ve heard/read...the Dark Tower is his \'baby\'. I\'m willing to bet he actually has the manuscripts (I predict 2 more) mostly written.
In the mean time, I\'ve been reading Anne Rice.
-
ive liked his movies and read one of his books "The Stand" a while back and it was quite the long book too lol
anyway i enjoyed it and i think he has his good days and bad days so to speak
but its time for him to back off and let someone else move in
-
Yes he has said that the dark tower series is his lifes work. And every time I\'ve heard him talk about it he\'s always said it would be 7 books long.So we can only hope .

Yes, it\'s "The Last Starfighter." I like that movie, even though the CG is weak by today\'s standards. I\'ve been thinking that the director Nick Castle should go to Universal with a proposal to do a "Special Edition" of The Last Starfighter. I wouldn\'t be outlandishly expensive to replace all the CGI shots in the film with shots using new technology. Universal could do a rerelease like George Lucas did, and probably make some easy money. They should then do a special edition DVD with both versions of the film in the same package. I\'d buy that for sure.
Of course Nick Castle never developed much of a career in Hollywood. Some of his filmography includes "Dennis the Menace," "Major Payne," and "Mr. Wrong." Blehhh :p

its funny that a horror writer never had a good movie made off of one of his horror novels but when he stretches himself into drama they make great movies(stand by me, green mile)
2 questions about this guy did he write shawshank redemtion and what was the girl who loved tom gordon about cause tom gordon is a pitcher for the cubs and i was wondering why he would write about a cubs pitcher

no good horror movies? what about christine, carrie, pet cemetary, firestarter, thinner? those are classic horror flicks.

People like you worry me. I think reading is one of the best forms of entertainment because you are not offered the visuals, you CREATE them. This would make a scene all that more scarier or sad. Good writing can hit nerves in you that will make you say, "wow".

That\'s too bad...
I don\'t read, it\'s not my thing. I used to read a lot.. I used to read these weird books where animals were the characters.. I forget what the series was called.. But they were big 300+ page books for a used to be 5th grader.. I also read tons of survival books, I always wanted to survive on my own in the wilderness, and learned a lot from the 10+ survival books I read. And I read about 3 Stephen King books, and 8 Dean Koontz.
I haven\'t read a single book in 2 years. I just lost intrest.
That doesn\'t mean I read in school.... I HAVE to read books from school... But I just hate reading in my room all weekend with a cramped up neck and bloodshot eyes from reading all day..
And WTF! Don\'t I read all the time HERE!? Cry me a river Ghetto.

It sounds to me like you\'ve never read anything GOOD, ajoh432. Maybe that\'s why you think it\'s boring. I could understand someone being bored by Stephen King and Dean Koontz. That may just mean that you have good taste. You should find some better writers, and try other books. If you say reading\'s not your thing, and reading is boring, then you\'re shutting yourself off from one of the most enjoyable activities human beings can engage in. There are some great books out there that every human should read before they die.
