Title: Anyone else have Tivo / UTV?
Post by: videoholic on February 03, 2002, 09:52:05 AM
I have found the best thing ever in the history of the world.  This thing records everything.  I watch no commercials anymore.  I cna pause, go take a piss, come back and not miss a thing.  I can rewind live TV not just the last 10 seconds, I could go back hours from when I first changed to the channel.

I can start watching a show at 8:10 if I want.  It will continue to record the show while I am watching it from the beginning.

Oh and the best thing, you can buy these things cheap as hell now.  I bought mine for 120 bucks.  Dual tuner direct TV receiver.  You just can\'t beat it.

So if any of you are thinking abou getting direct TV, DO NOT get a regular receiver.  Look into these things.  There is a deal on the net that with new service you can get one for 39 bucks.

That\'s it for my weekly home theater rant.

Yea the only thing that sucks though is while your recording one program you cant watch another.  I think they are, hopefully, working to make this possible though.  But, yes, up with tivo, down with commercials!

You are kidding right?

I can pause two channels, let alone watch two.  It has picture in picture.

You can get the unit for 100 bucks easy at Circuit city.  Even less on the internet.

10 bucks a month for the service though.....

Tivo is ok, but I love my DIGITAL cable. 300 channels digital quality sound. Sports out the ying yang. I would die without my digital cable. Plus I have a package with digital cable and cable internet (cable modem which I own) 100$ a month now that\'s TV.

Direct Tv looks better than digital cable.  And now that they launched the new satellite with Spot Beam transmissions now the quality is suppose to increase by another 20%.  Hopefully back to the way it was 5 years ago before they started adding all these local channels.  I have hundreds of channels too, but I only watch about 20 of them.  Plus you don\'t get High Definition with Digital Cable.

Well actually they are starting to roll out some hi def STBs for digital cable now.  They are experimenting with them in Clearwater here in Tampa this month.

Ulitmate TV and TIVO are just video recorders though.  Very intelligent recorders, but that\'s it.

With Ultimate TV I will be able to call a number and have the satellite send a signal to my receiver to turn on and record.  Just in case I forget to record the Very Brady Sequal.

They are doing terrible though.  I think it\'s because people just don\'t understand them.  Tivo and Ultimate TV are both hurting financially.  I am addicted to this thing.  I always forget when things are on.  And there is nothing better than watching an hour show in a half an hour.  YAHOOO!!!
