Title: Ps2: Samurai
Post by: pstwo on February 05, 2002, 10:55:16 PM
I like the atmosphere of this game. It takes you back on how real samurais once lived. Cool game.  I use a translator so some words didn\'t come out.  Link: http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20020205/sam.htm

"  The player becomes the nameless samurai who lives in Meiji era, the black raw house (the ‚ ‚ë to age) with the red ball party (it is the scale, probably will wait) the opposition extreme six bone passes the sword is shaken in the stage. As for development \' the heaven æn \' as for the ƒAƒNƒƒCƒA and sale \' ƒfƒRƒgƒ‰ legend \' and \' the ƒtƒ@ƒCƒvƒ \' and so on with the spike, the story development and appearance whose degree of freedom is high impression the aggressive scene which overflows is finished in the period adventure drama action adventure of charm. To gather the sword, remember skill and/or with there be also the collection pleasure which was said, conclusion of the story it is colorful. It can play at anything degree.

The opening movie uplift atmosphere. In six bone passes the black raw house, the red ball party, and three way desire and the conspiracy due to Meiji government it is eddied. The protagonist does what from this, keeps receiving some kind of conclusion?

Time 1877. In the political change due to the Meiji restoration, Japan was aiming diplomacy and toward the modern centralized nation. The feudal times by the samurai cessation was faced, the men who were called " the samurai " lost the destination to that. \' The samurai \' such age were designated as the background, there is the Kanto end, in it is the story of the alone samurai who stops aimlessly " six bone passes ".

Present moment, there were two powers, " black raw house " and the " red ball party " in six bone passes. The black raw house is the samurai who is the pedigree which so far manages single-handed six bone passes, but presently giving under the sleeve to the local policeman, the yak the ま is and does activity.

The organization which starts with the loyal retainer family which as for the red ball party age of the samurai probably will be recovered, you think, causes rebellion at the every place. It puts out " overthrow Meiji government ", flatters to new age and the wrongdoing presence system of the black raw house which works the execution っ て it is. These two large powers deepened opposition, were in a touch prompt state.

If I were to ever get a tatoo, this would be it!  (Excluding the one on his head.)

I think the game would be cooler if you played a Ronin, instead of a lone, nameless Samurai.

A Ronin is a dishonored Samurai, no longer part of the collective, and must find his own work for food in order to survive, though most wealthy people would not hire a Ronin, because of his lowered status, therefore a Ronin usually is hired to protect a small village (see the best movie of all time:  Seven Samurai).  Most of the best Samurai stories are about Ronins.

From the impression I got from the preview, the playable character seemed to choose to be alone, instead of being forced into it by the title of Ronin.

a ronin isnt forced to do anything except remeber his dishonor, and at last perform hara kuri.  but they did travel more or less, by themselves, and did try to remain anonymous in thier assasinations

watch Lone Wolf and cub if you get a chance, it deals alot with why a dishonored samurai does what he does and why

Thanks for clairifying, the only Samurai movies I\'ve seen are really old and probably poorly translated.  Plus I think the forcing to remember their dishonor is more of a punishment to their culture as relevant to ours.

So. . . what\'s the deal with this game?  Ronin or no?

Yes, in that picture, u can see them wearing their saya (scabbards) upside down.

Also I saw it in a video, all wearing swords upside down. :)

I find that strange, since it is a Japanese game.... isn\'t it?

I like the washed-out-Ico-color effect.  It adds that japenese calmness factor too it.  Anyway though, im really waiting for a good ninja/samuri/anything with swords game to come out for PS2.  I hafta keep an eye on this one.  Thanks pstwo.
