Are you dissapointed with the jagged edges in your PS2 games? Well here are 2 things that ANYBODY could to to smooth things out!
1. Straighten out your cords. Make sure to keep the AV cord as straight as possible!! Do let it double over itself or make any sharp turns. Smooth connections for smooth receptions!!
2. Put the Screen size at "4:3". In the System Settings most people put the screen size at "Full"
DON\'T!!!
The screen is alot smoother in Games and in DVD movies with the System Browser set to "4:3"!! And don\'t worry it won\'t change the size of any other media. (Games still play at full screen and movies play at whatever you set them at in the DVD menu) The difference is they will be alot smoother!!
Try it!!

Hmmm..., that\'s a truly different, not to mention the first, perspective on D.I.Y. AA I\'ve ever heard.
-
Oooohhh k... I am just going to forget I saw that.
-
mm
Please tell me that is not a picture of you and your younger brother.
or at least tell me you didn\'t sniff your fingers afterwards
-
Back on topic.
I tried this (yes, pathetic) and it does not do a single friggen thing.
Please explain how you think this works.
-
How do I think it works? Because I have done it! And I have told a bunch of friends around here and they have all had success too!
I only have, SSX and Gran Turismo 3: A-spec right now. But I have tested, Devil May Cry, Timesplitters, and several DVD\'s and noticed everything is smoother!
I with the resolution setting, games looked alot cleaner and smoother. The DVD movies had a cleaner look too. (I even noticed a difference in the grit-fest "Saving Private Ryan".)
The cord thing was instant fix, If your cord is kinked up, or still got folds in it cuz it was just bought, (like mine) than straightening it out should smooth things up for you. *If it has to have make a turn between the TV and PS2, (again like mine) make it wide and smooth as possible!* No sharp 90 degree turns!
A good place to really see the changes is the character selection screen of SSX. (Or where I first noticed it, the top of the crowd stands in the fly-by of Snow Dream.)
The changes were definately noticable in the other games too.

hmmm... he could be right !!!
The day before tomorrow, I opend an interstellar gate from here to Proxima Prime, then put my PS2 into a Microwave Oven and shiped it to that place... it was a bit difficulty to get such a long cord, but it was worth it !!! Now my pic is as smooth as a "Babys Ass" !!!!!!!!!
 :bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:

What a coincidence...I did the same thing just the other day!!
Oh...and this is the dumbest advice I\'ve ever heard, but it\'s the effort that counts, right?
Also...what were you thinking, mm? *Ugh* That\'s the worst picture...shame

but is it a smooth as the Babies ass shown above
thats the real question

i also hear that if you spread peanut butter on your ps2, the polygon count and fps count will quadruple. :D
-
Oh yeah, indeed! With all those ones and zeros running through the wires, it\'s of course wise to keep them as straight as possible. The zeros just swoop through, no problem, but the ones have sharp corners that get stuck in the curves, eh?
I can\'t imagine how any of those tricks could help for better AA... maybe Knemesis\' eyesight has just gotten a bit worse and he\'s got FSAA (FullSight Anti-Aliasing) built in his head now :p
-
I don\'t know why I even bother repling to all of this. It doesn\'t help the coding of the game any!! I mean, obviously if the game was jaggy as hell to begin with, this won\'t do a bit of good! Duh! What it does is help you get the best reception, and cleanest image possible!!
Try folding the cord while looking at something in 3d... now straighten it. Notice the difference?

WOW! What an improvement man. The peanut butter really works; now, not only does the polygon count look better, It makes for a great snack during countless hours of game play! Well, I\'m off to get that cord str8, thanx for the advice guys!
Oh, and about that picture... the only thing that bothers me is that kid will probably grow up to be a proctologist and make more money than any one of us pokin\' poopers! Yuck!
-
Seriously though.
What I want to know, is how do you think putting it to 4:3 ratio helps the picture???
I mean... Doesnt make sense.
-
I\'ve seen only a few real bits of advice out there, and this one may be a stretch. I have heard that these things help sharpen the picture and set the lighting controles in your television for a "better" picture durring gameplay. Check it out (, if you realy are looking for better grafix though, you may want to try the peanut butter.

Sniff Sniff !
i can smell a strong contender for imbecile of the WEEK ! Part 2.

okay, okay...all in fun right? Well to get serious, here\'s the skinny;
4. Another cost-effective tip for cable maintenance, is to make sure that your cables (interconnects and speaker) are not kinked up, or placed in such a way that they could easily be stepped on or tripped over: (speaker cables) especially, and power cords too.
In addition, try not to bundle power cords and interconnects together, so that you lessen the chance of RFI and EMI interference from entering your equipment via the bundled up cords. This may seem trival, but it`s better to play safe, and have one less thing to worry about. By the way, RFI stands for radio frequency interference, like radio stations, garage door openers, CB radios, and the ubiquitous cell phones. EMI stands for electro- magnetic interference, which could come from nearby kitchen appliances, computers, other a/v equipment, and of course the cords themselves. When a electric current runs thru electrical wires, a small but never-the-less troublesome magnetic fields. This tip costs nothing, except for a little of your time and elbow grease!

I know it\'s only a suggestion, but it tells me it\'s worth a try. (Sorry, next time I\'ll just keep my funnies to myself -sniff,sniff...)
-
...that´s all true !!!
BUT IT WON´T SOLVE THE JAGGIES ISSUE !!!
-
Metal Gear Solid 2 is a good test too. Try looking at the "Tranquilizer Gun" in first-person. It is smoother after doing the above.
And I don\'t know why, setting the resolution to 4:3 helps it. It just does.

Stole the words right out of my mouth. Damn you double 0 seven. You get the witty lines AND the women.

Knemeses: I\'m sorry you had such a rough intro to this board, usually others are more tolerant and accepting of new ideas.
I don\'t know if the 4:3 thing would work, hey anythings possible, if unlikely. He is ABSOLUTELY correct in telling you to completely unkink your cables. Any sharp bends and corners in a cable will change the conductivity of the cable at that point, better on the inside of the corner and worse on the outside. Sharp (the way cables come packed, with six 180 degree bends) corners will have a detrimental effect on any signal. Obviously it is not a big deal, especially when your dealing with this type of solid cable, but keeping your cables straight and away from each other (or buy more expensive, better shielded cable) will slightly improve signals.
Because of the way optical transfer and fibers work, it is even more critical to keep your 5.1 optical out as straight as possible. Having studied quite a bit of information in this field, and having tried experiments (when my father still researched these things, about 8-10 years go), I can tell you that with a single 90 degree bend in optical cable you will loose 40% or 50% of your signal strength.

Correct me if I\'m wrong, but doesn\'t the aspect ratio in the system configuration setting only apply to the PS2 browser and config. settings? If this wasn\'t the case, why are some developers implementing a 16:9/anamorphic option in thier games, if it cannot be determined by the hardware settings alone?

Yep, I\'m pretty sure that you are right. When I went home at christmas, i set mine to 16:9 because I was playing it on our Widescreen TV. Now that I\'m back at college, I havn\'t been bothered to change it back, but my games dont play a 16:9, they play at 4:3, so the PS2 setting is definateley just for the browser. This guys certainly got my vote for imbecile of the week! part 2!!!
-
I\'m just confused.
-
I couldn\'t straighten out my cords anyway. The connections are on the back of the TV so there\'s gonna be a few angles so I can be able to play in front of the TV.
Unless I use a few mirrors. :D
-
Thank you, FatalXception. Thank you very much!
I am just going to ignore the other ignorant comments for right now.
Anyway, for the last time, I KNOW that the screen size in the "System Configurations" only affects the PS2 Browser. I have even mentioned as much.
It won\'t change the screen size of your games & movies but, it WILL make give them a somewhat cleaner & smoother look if it is left at 4:3. I don\'t know WHY it does, it just does!
Just try it and see!
I experimented with different settings, trying to get a better picture out of my PS2. And after I found success, I thought I was being helpful by posting what I did to get such success. Guess you people didn\'t see it that way...
Anyway, I know when I am not wanted. So I won\'t be posting again.
Later...

What? Was it something we said?:(

jeez.. I do not care for this crap... You wouldn\'t even notice a difference... Like DOA2 and DOA3..:D
