From CloudChaser Nintendo (http://nintendo.cloudchaser.com/news/index.php?view=479):
Despite what Bill Gardner - president of Capcom USA said before GameCube sales picked up, Resident Evil wont be going multi-format. Capcom of Japan has said these rumors are false.
The Japanese Capcom website reads:
"A rumor that Biohazard (Overseas name: Resident Evil) may be supplied to platforms other than Nintendo GameCube has started on overseas web sites recently. This has no basis and is not true at all. Biohazard, Biohazard 0, Biohazard 2, Biohazard 3 - Last Escape, Biohazard Code :Veronica Complete and Biohazard 4 are due to be put on the market for Nintendo GameCube exclusively as we announced on September 13th, last year. Our plans have not changed."
Well, Xbox and PS2 aren\'t getting Resident Evil, but I wouldn\'t complain.
You guys have plenty of survival-horror titles to look forward to. :)
-
Exactly, and I don\'t like Survival horror games anyway. RE1 was good, I really liked it. Then they did another one and it was like Tomb Raider 2--an unecessary sequel to a game that should have ended at 1.
I hate the over use of fog and stupid "cat jumping out the the closet thrills", terrible voice acting, cliched plots, stupid cameras, awkward controls--you could say I dislike the genre. :)

Damn, heh, when you put it that way, it\'s hard to imagine why anybody liked it in the first place.

I remember Capcom saying that they would develop for the DC even if they were the only developers left (that and RE:CV was supposed to be a DC exclusive as well). That being said, Capcom saying this isn\'t surprising. Afterall, they said that RE will be exclusive to the GC (they even shaked hands on it) so it will remain exclusive to the GC. However, like the DC, if push comes to shove, then RE will not stay exclusive to the GC if need be. But in the meantime, GC exclusive.

Not to piss on your parade Blade, but you should know that Capcom is only giving the NGC 1-2 new Resident Evil titles. Everthing else is just rehash.. and really this point has been done to death already. NGC\'s RE list is...
RE:0 - New, and very well could be the only new one in the bunch.
RE:1 - Remake. Sure the graphics are prettier, but it\'s still the same game.
RE:2 - Dreamcast port, which is a PSX port + Texture Smoothing, AA, and Hi Rez.
RE:3 - Same as above. Isn\'t this what Bleem!PC was for?
RE:CV - PS2 port, which was a port from the DC to begin with.
The last one will either be RE:4 or a remake of RE:Survivor. I\'m not sure on that point. I hope it\'s RE:4, but given Capcom\'s track record..... well...
-
I\'m sorry to piss on your parade Mr.Fanboy, but Capcom isn\'t bringing out RE4 on your beloved PS2. Sorry buddy!
Yeah, RE2, RE3, and CV are all ports.. so what? It\'s designer Shinji Mikami\'s artistic vision to have the entire story available for one audience. (instead of spread out over PSX, PS2, N64, and DC player bases)
RE1 is different enough to classify as a new game. Story, characters, locations = basically the same.
But there are new graphics, sound, puzzles, areas; plus new plot twists to make it fit into continuity.
I\'ve personally never played RE:CV, nor the yet-to-be-released RE0 and RE4. There\'s reason to celebrate.
-
Ok, first of all, who are you "Mr. I got 11 posts and suck on Nintnedo\'s nutsack everychance I get." to call me a fanboy? Secondly, I never mentioned the PS2 anywhere in my post. Try STFU before you make accusations based on assumptions.
Secondly, artistic vision takes a back seat to the bottom line everytime. That\'s buisness, and it\'s a reason why Capcom is one of the most successful 3rd parties out there.
Third, RE:1Remake is NOT a new game. If you want to buy it for updated graphics, then be my guest, but no matter how much you kick and scream you can\'t get away from the fact that game is old, rehashed, and already available for the PSX and Saturn sans "purty graphix". If you really believe all that garbage about it being a new game, then I guess you\'re just walking proof that P.T. Barnum was right...
Fouth and finally I\'ll end with a quote of yours:
"Capcom isn\'t bringing out RE4 on your beloved PS2. Sorry buddy!" - Blade
Boy, that sounds exactly like...
"Capcom isn\'t bringing out RE2 on your beloved N64. Sorry buddy!" - PSX fanboys
"Capcom isn\'t bringing out RE2 on your beloved Dreamcast. Sorry buddy!" - PSX fanboys
"Capcom isn\'t bringing out RE3 on your beloved Dreamcast. Sorry buddy!" - PSX fanboys
"Capcom isn\'t bringing out RE:CV on your beloved PS2. Sorry buddy!" - Dreamcast fanboys
Had enough or should I bring the StreetFighter/MegaMan/DinoCrisis/Onimushia games into this too??
Go ahead and try to argue.. but the burden of proof is on YOUR shoulders.

Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 4 have been confirmed as the "exclusive" games (term used loosely). So, we can limit out it being Resident Evil: Survivor.
With that said, even I, as the local and most offical Capcom whore realize that Capcom is more and likely not going to keep to this whole exclusive issue. If nothing else, they\'ll come up with a side story situation, any possible way to get the series on other platforms. That is just how Capcom does things...I point to Code Veronica, a "exclusive" game for the DC. Hell, Sega assisted in most the programming for that game and it STILL ended up on another platform , actually two now that they are porting it to the GC. Furthermore, if you want to continue arguing about how exclusive the series is, just look at the series and Capcom\'s track record from the very start... Every Resident Evil game has said to been exclusive to one console or another , and yet was ported over and over.

looks im forced to buy a GC after all

Ok, first of all, who are you "Mr. I got 11 posts and suck on Nintnedo\'s nutsack everychance I get." to call me a fanboy?
A. Your name is "Sony fan". I wasn\'t planning to call you a fanboy, but that made it easier. To be fair.. I take that back and call you your rightful name. Sony "fan".. like I\'m a Nintendo "fan". Fanboy and fan are different things to me. I called you a fanboy because your comments were unnecessary and negative. Sorry. :/
Secondly, artistic vision takes a back seat to the bottom line everytime. That\'s business,
That\'s true. So what\'s the point? If this were the case right now, Capcom would hold off on trying to sell RE2, RE3, and CV on the GCN. Apparently the executive branch has agreed to allow these games to be released. (it\'s also a theory that they\'ll contain small plot changes to make up for the differences in RE1 and RE0)
Third, RE:1 Remake is NOT a new game.
In essence, you\'re correct. The 1996 RE1 on PSX follows the same basic plotline and contains the same characters. But the remake contains a good deal of (previously inaccessible) totally new areas, 70% new puzzles, 100% new graphics, and a modified story line with new plot twists. More atmosphere, less "cat jumping out of a closet" effects. It\'s not totally new, but definitely new enough for RE1 veterans to appreciate.

I\'ve heard at least some of what you said, but would just like to clarify for others that after this one, future RE ports will be just that - ports.
RE0 and 4 are still set to be original, though.... for what it\'s worth.

I hope by new puzzles they don\'t mean RE: DC style...
Ergo...re-arranging the location of certain items...
Lame...

"I called you a fanboy because your comments were unnecessary and negative. Sorry. :/ " - Blade
Just to let you know, I didn\'t say my first post as a negetive towards Nintnedo.. it was a dig against Capcom. I\'d actually PREFER if they left RE on the GameCube because that no only strenghtens the platform and generates more competition.. but it also shows a certain level of class. It\'s why I respect Namco way more than Capcom.. because when Namco said SoulCalibur was exclusive to the Dreamcast.. they meant it. Even though it would have sold better if they put it on the PS2 as well.
Capcom has a bad track record of saying one thing and doing another. I\'m just too tired of hearing their lies to believe them anymore... and I\'m surprised anyone else still does.
-
Hehe, yeah.. Capcom. The same company that rehashed Street Fighter 2 for 5 years. ;)
They have a bad track record when dealing with franchises.
Still, Capcom and Nintendo have a close friendship. I doubt that RE4 will be ported to Xbox unless it totally tanks.
-
What you people need to realize is that what keeps Capcom alive is..... come on think now..... ok it\'s MONEY. If you really think they will go exclusive with the lowest selling console on the market ( out of the big 3), your nuts. Yes they will be exclusive at first, but when they see that practically no one is buying their software, they will start producing for the PS2 and XBOX.
I was considering buying a GC just for the RE games but now I will wait. They will be out for the two big systems.
The only old RE game I would like to see on the XBOX is RE 1.
That\'s a classic.

*reads NPYYZ\'s avatar, then nods*

LOVE the new avattar NPYYZ.
ROLF!! I knew that was comming.. but at only 40 some odd posts? Isn\'t that a new record for PSX2C?

Poor NPYYZ, crowned before even getting member status

Your logic is flawed. Yes, the GameCube maybe the lowest selling console out of the three, but it also has the least amount of games on the market right now. This means RE has a better chance of selling big than it would on say the XBox where there are more games to potentially crowd it out. Why do you think Nintendo 1st & 2nd party games consistantly sold 5+ Million on the N64 despite the fact that the N64 only sold about 25+ Million units worldwide? It\'s because they were pretty much the only games worth buying, so lots of people bought them.
Besides, Capcom has already made it very clear what there intentions are and I don\'t see them going back on them now.
-
Hate to rain on everyone\'s parade but RE Is not exclusive.
http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories/news/0,10870,2848223,00.html
Resident Evil Online - PS2.
-
Yeah, now they have this RE-Online stuff going around.
Well, RE isn\'t totally exclusive to GameCube. PS2 and GBC are both getting RE games. (Survivor 2 and Gaiden)
And if Capcom isn\'t messing with us, they\'re also bringing RE-Online to PS2. This doesn\'t interfere with Nintendo\'s exclusivity contract.. GCN still gets the totally exclusive rights to RE1, RE0, and RE4.
Although, I think that RE4 = RE-Online. Hmm, this is ever so confusing!
-

Yes...plus REOnline !
I think Capcom is eating their fingers for this "pseudo" exclusivity...:D
...GC\'s having some problems...

...so NGC is not getting the totally exclusive rights to RE4? ...you\'re confusing me:p

What Capcom is doing is simple. They are taking the main series - the single player ones that is based on a story (i.e RE 1 - RE4) and putting them all on one console. Then take side based series (RE:Survivor - RE:online) and spread them out onto other consoles. It makes sense actually, that way Capcom can get the series everywhere and still claim that the main RE series can be found on one base console. Then there is still the chance of porting them down to another platform later on.
I truly doubt RE4 is RE:ONline. As any true Capcom fan knows, DMC was originally going to be RE4 and took place on a boat, etc. The small details we do know doesn\'t lend RE4 to be an online game. Not to mention, I still see RE:Online as a possible FPS online game...
-
Thanks for your thoughts LIC...though I was ironic with the guy above...
-
Actually, Capcom just confirmed that RE4 is not "RE Online" and that RE4 is totally exclusive.
Special thanks to Capcom USA for making it seem like RE\'s exclusivity is half-hearted..

You mean its not half-hearted? ;)
I am surprised Capcom didn\'t put RE online on the Xbox though, due to the fact it already has a HD and they could take advantage of that .
-
Yeah, I\'m also surprised.
Then again, Sony is giving the PS2 internet capabilities and a HDD.. Capcom had to give them a chance.
I have a feeling that RE-Online might hit Xbox and GCN too though.
-
I\'m expecting that the game will hit the Xbox when their online plans are more coherient. Same with the GC (which IMO, has even less of an online plan as either the PS2 or the Xbox).
As for Capcom and exclusitivity, with the exception of a few, very few, games, Capcom doesn\'t keep their "exclusive" games exclusive for very long. Resident Evil being their biggest example of this. So there are reasons why many of us are still  when we see Capcom and exclusitivity next on their games.
