I\'m still looking forward too it despite all the somewhat negative reviews...

Well, over at gamerweb. they all seem to enjoy the game. Though they point out that it is somewhat shallow and short, it\'s fun none the less and worth picking up...
-
isnt there already a thread about Wreckless..?

Great Link Watchdog!! I have it in my hands as of 8:51pm Hawaii time. I\'ll tell you how it is.

you have to remember at TeamXbox, it is considered to be a good score if it is 3.5 and over...

*No swearing.
*No flaming other members, for any reason. If you have troubles with someone. REPORT it too your mod or admin. If this isn\'t followed it will result in a banning.
If I was a MOD, I\'d make you wash you mouth with soap! Maybe I should start reporting to the mods.

And it continues... *yawn*
Maybe I\'ll just come back in a few days when this fight blows over.

Watchdog, I got some good gameplaying time with Wreckless. There is 2 direction you can start with A - The good guys or B - bad guys. So far I\'m now on A4. Wreckless like all the reviews said it\'s the most eye-candy game seen on any system and that is true. The back grounds are very very detail like a real living city have. It will make GTA3 look like a PSone game. There is so much I can go in just details in the graphics it\'s not even funny. I keep saying to myself, I can\'t believe how it looks. The ocean looks real cool. It looks and moves real. Trees move nicely with the wind. The cars you drive and cars around you have lots of detail in them.
Now the issue on if its another bouncer. I haven\'t played bouncer but I know what they mean by it. Looks good but a short game. Now Wreckless looks like somthing that we will see in 2005 but the levels are kinda hard, A1-2 you have to hit Yakuza cars and its fun driving in the city with the traffic. Oh yeah you before you ramps or dirt hills to get your car up. start the mission, you can set the level and traffic difficult up. You have to do different things all the time like on A4, you\'ll be at this constructing site and have to hit a 50 feet dump truck on the top half to get it damage gage down so you have to use.
The only thing that this game is like Crazy Taxi is when you see the people runing away from you. And thats it. This is not Crazy Taxi. If I was you, buy it. It\'s a real fun game. =)
-
Okay, I haven\'t played this game, but I expect you can have 10-20 hours of fun with this title, give or take. This is the main knock against this game. Almost everyone says it is really fun but it gets old. It\'s a given that there is little replayability. But there have been many short games that have recieved excellent reviews (ICO comes to mind).
ICO may be a deeper title, but is it more fun after 10-20 hours? That can probably be argued. ICO got by because of the pure charm of the game, but like I said way back when it was hot, it is way over rated.
It\'s a game I\'m glad I played, but relieved that I didn\'t buy. Is this game so different? I\'m not sure.
Like I said, this is only based on the reviews I\'ve read. But I think IGN may be the most consistent--they gushed over ICO and gushed over Wreckless. I groaned when I read the ICO review, and groaned when I read the Wreckless one.
In my eyes, at least they are consistent.
-
I played ICO and it\'s a real nice game. You have to play Wreckless or at lest see it in motion from the hardware. =)
-
Well the graphics in the game are awesome I\'LL give it that. I expect the gameplay to be about a 7. It should still make for some funs times for now.
Wreckless is not the first game you expect high and get less umm "ICO" anyone??
-
umm "ICO" anyone??
I got exactly what I wanted out of Ico, an awesome adventure/puzzle experience. In no way was I dissapointed with it. Now the bouncer on the other hand...

Sure if your a huge puzzle lover but besides that the gameplay lags. I mean the fighting is just awful and very boring. And the fighting is repetative. All you do is fighting the same thing over and over again it\'s just boring and stupid.. And the only weapons are wooden stick and sword.
Ryu i did not know you where this easy to please.
Only plus I can say about the game is the graphics. I expected way more out this game was very disapponted when I finally got it.

...and if I did like puzzle games? Am I still that easy to please? I\'m sorry, but the center of Ico was not the combat, but rather the puzzles as was said. The fighting was simple because... well... You\'re damn kid hauling around a 2x4 and a sword, just how experienced do you think he can get?

I\'m not denying that it was a good game, but to give it such high praise and dismiss Wreckless for the very same flaws that ICO has, is a little hypacritical (sp?).
It definitely didn\'t deserve the 9s it got when put in the proper context (other games that scored that highly). It was repetitive, it was room after room of puzzles, but it was fun while it lasted. You could say the same of Wreckless (insert crazy driving for rooms), only no one (except IGN) is consistent with thier reviews.
I will not buy Wreckless. I would rate it a 6-7 (again from what I\'ve heard from many people/reviews), but I would also rate ICO the same.
IGN rated both games highly, that\'s fine, but all I\'m saying is that there has to be some kind of precident.

That is what I was trying to say. Surely ICO does not deserve the 9\'s it was getting. The puzzles where not all that hard. And yes they where interesting. But no way was the game worthy of the 9\'s it was getting. 7.5 at best.

I disagree. Ico and Wreckless were reviewed by two different people, which is what this whole conversation boils down to, opinion.
And I\'m not slamming wreckless for being repetetive, I\'m slamming it because people praised as some type of amazing gameplay feat, and yet it\'s just another driving game, this time where the object is to run into cars rather than avoid them. I don\'t see how Ico and Wreckless are remotely comparable in that sense.

In your opinion and that\'s fine, but I prefer it over a game like Crazy Taxi or Wreckless, but that\'s just me. Opinions are like assholes, such and such.

Fair enough, Ryu. But there still has to be some objectivity, regardless of personal tastes. You can\'t head on compare the games, but in intangibles (ie. graphic quality, replayability, fun factor) they are very similar.
I\'ve said this before I do not like Grand Turismo 3, but it is a very fine game, and fully deserves the 9 rating. Even though I don\'t agree about MGS reviews, I can see why it gets those high grades.
I can see why people like ICO. But truth be told, people are going to enjoy Wreckless as much as other people enjoy ICO.
It is a matter of taste, but there has to be a bottom line. A review is worthless if it is written in a vacuum. You have to be able to make justifications and maintain some kind of integrity.
Despite the fact that I dislike GT3, I\'d still give it a 9--it brings a lot to the table and is very well executed. I can see people loving it. ICO is a game you play for a fraction of the time the average gamer spends with GT3, yet is deserves the same score?
It can, but your criteria have to change to accept the limitations of the game. Accepting these limitations also makes Wreckless a 9 title (given these criteria).
The first thing you learn in professional journalism and English, is that objectivity is the ONLY thing you bring when you write a story/essay. Personal tastes and biases have no business in your writing. This is how it has to be, this is what separates good writers from bad.
If reviews are as subjective as you say, then they are completely worthless. Roger Ebert gave favourable reviews to Jurrassic Park 3 and Tomb Raider, but he qualified them by saying they succeed for what they are and what they set out to accomplish. I disagree with the approval of these movies, but he is consistent and reliable and his reviews do not fluctuate because he dislikes hollywood big budget crap. If a movie is supposed to be a popcorn movie, and it succeeds, then given Ebert\'s criteria, it is a solid title. I can live with that. I know how to read him.
Someone whose opinoin fluctuate with moods, personal tastes and biases are not reliable and not a good source of review.
You cannot condemn a game for flaws that you overlook in other titles because the second title hits a soft spot in your mind. It makes no sense and is bad journalism.

I think you\'re misunderstanding my point. My complaints about Wreckless are adjusted based on the fact that it is comparable not to Ico, but rather to Crazy Taxi and the like. I approach driving games with a whole differend mind set then how I approach a puzzle game. To this day, I\'m the only person I know of that approves of Intelligent Qube, yet almost every reviewer considered the game mediocre. That may be because I enjoy puzzle games, but I do have my limits with those, take lemmings and chu chu rocket for example.
I\'ve had my fill of driving games over time which is why I didn\'t rate Wreckless at all. I merely went on what the reviewers bashed the game on as my criteria for not buying it. So a shallow game that also involves driving does not appeal to me in the slightest. I won\'t review it or presume to know how well it plays, but I still feel that the opinions of different reviewers on different games are not comparable. You can love popcorn movies for being what they are, same as intellectual dramas, but they both get the same ratings in the end, a comparison you feel is unjust in your previous posts stating that a 9 in Ico is unforgiveable when GT3 gets the same score, yet they are both great for what they are. At least they are in my opinion.
-
And perhaps Wreckless is great for what it is. That\'s all I\'m saying.
It\'s not supposed to be GT3 or GTA3 or even CT, if it\'s fun for 10-20, as ICO was, then it has to get the same score or close to it.
-
i was under the impression that it was fun for 1 - 2 hours until the graphics wore off :p
again, i have not played this game, such as Ryu i am going by what is said..
-
That may be. The graphics are not what makes the game old though, it\'s the gameplay. Really fun at first then it gets old. How long that takes is the question. It could be that boring of a game, who knows, I\'m really just arguing a concept here.
I\'ll rent Wreckless, but I know now that I\'ll not buy it.
