I have to laugh at those of you who run this message board.
I came to this board and posted My opinion about the future of console gaming, which is in short that the XBOX will soon be the number one console on the market. It already surpasses any thing the weaker, slower ,and jaggie looking PS2 can do. You morons will see in the coming months that the games for the XBOX will leave your little PS2\'s in the dust. I am right and you know it. Why else would you pathetic little pussies altar my profile with your foolish toll alert picture. Hey bring it on losers, do you think that will discourage me from posting the truth here? It won\'t. Just because you know you spent your money of the lesser system , don\'t get so angry with me for pointing that out to you. This board was amusing for a bit, but I prefer to converse with real people who have the backbone to defend what they believe without resorting to putting labels on others.

NPYYZ stated (before Ryu editted it) that he believe XBox would win this console war. As far as im concerned the XBox is already a success in that it built up the hype and now people are buying it (and if it hasnt been released near them, they are interested)..

while its great fun playing games and enjoying them to their fullest, i have become accustomed to the lifestyle of defending games that i enjoy/consoles that i enjoy from ignorant fools. To me thats part of the whole experience now, and can help you learn a lot more about the game..

Yah, Ridge Racer 5 and TTT were really groundbreaking...oh, I forgot Fantavision...
Anyway, the PS2 didn\'t get any big games until Rayman 2 released in Jan, then Devil May Cry in March and GT3 in June...This was way back when DC was still lively and all the fanboys came in here saying how the games looked the same blah blah blah...Your right, this isn\'t the place to get into it...:)

Yeah, but by the same Token mm, If Sega had pushed the Dreamcast in the same way they did with the Genesis things might not have turned out that way. Sega made a lot of fukkups this generation. The hardware and the games were what they really got right. I\'d say the Dreamcast did pretty damned well considering the opposition and it\'s backing.

PS2 was heavily compared to DC when it first arrived...In fact some games were touted as being below DC standards...In what way was PS2 truly groundbreaking??

And some DC games were below N64 standards. That means nothing. Just looking at the top games of each system, the PS2 was ahead. I wouldn\'t consider the PS2 launch ground breaking (actually, I wouldn\'t consider any console launch ground breaking, because IMO none of them ever have been), but the PS2 launch was still very good.

ok, i am a newbie on this site, i got my ps2 early this year, and its a damn good system, the one and only reason why i didn\'t pick the xbox was because the ps2 had more games currently and more upcoming games that i wanted. the xbox is a great system, it has really nice graphics because of its GPU and a built in HD, that is just plain nice. the system has great potential, but until i see that great potential, i am sticking with the ps2.
and for those that use the "graphics are WAY better on the xbox than ps2" arguement, all i have to say is, STFU!! look at the psone, i dont care what anybody says, the graphics on that system suck ass, but is the console still around? do they still make games for it? it beat the N64 and DC, its like 8 years old now, and people still love it, what does that say? people dont give a rats ass about graphics, its all in the game content.
the xbox also has to earn some respect in the business, like how sony has with the psone. if M$ can sell 20million+ xboxs by the beginning of next year, they got my respect.

Well this is just my opinion, but I was talking about graphically. TTT/DOA2:HC beats any fighting game on the Dreamcast. Timesplitters beats any FPS on the Dreamcast. SSX probably beats any snowboarding game on the Dreamcast (was there even a snowboarding game on the Dreamcast? Heh. ;)) I think the loads of crap on the PS2 launch is what gave it the "PS2 is worse than Dreamcast" reputation, but there were a few standout games that look nice even to this day.

I heard the DOA 2 games looked pratically identical...Either way this has strayed off topic.
The debate I was trying to make was in game content on or around PS2 launch...it was lackluster to say the least. I didn\'t see why Xbox owners shouldn\'t say "Wait till E3", "Wait a few more months", etc. as mm had stated. The system has already eclipsed the PS2 graphically (as did the PS2 to the DC) and now we wait for more games. That\'s exactly how the PS2 went about, why should it be a different story for Xbox...
if M$ can sell 20million+ xboxs by the beginning of next year, they got my respect.
You mean in 21 months...the PS2 has been out since March 2000. PS2 hit a little over 10 million in one full year, hopefully Xbox can hit this also...

i dont see the xbox eclipsing the PS2 graphically
a year aside in technology, i dont see it impossible to not put halo on the PS2. they couldnt even get it to run at 60 FPS on the xbox. what kinds of powerhouse console was the xbox "supposed" to be

like i said, PS2 raised the bar for console graphics, the xbox pushed it a little farther ahead, but not higher

That\'s just it, Halo is out right now on Xbox and is graphically superior. Wreckless is out right now and it\'s amazing to look at...
I don\'t think PS2 raised the bar, just pushed it like Xbox. Like I said earlier, the games at PS2 launch weren\'t that impressive or set apart from DC. It wasn\'t until just recently (GT3, J&D, FFX, MGS2) that the PS2 has start to show what it can do.

PS2 was launched in japan when, early 2000? shouldnt we have expected the graphics to be a little less then what we have in 2002? we cant make excuses for the xbox. we should expect more. a 300$ early 2000 console vs a VERY late 300$ 2001 console?
the PS2 launch games were way past what the DC offered

Sony was trying something new. That\'s their excuse. Without companies taking risks, this industry will not grow. I don\'t know if Sony\'s risk will turn out to be worth while or not, but at least they are playing around with new ideas.

Timesplitters didn\'t have framerate issues either -- smooth 60 fps even in 4 player deathmatch with 10 bots. :) And who is the one who decides what games are good or not? I loved Timesplitters. IMO, it is the best console multiplayer FPS. Does it matter if it got in the 8\'s from reviewers (yes, it was also rated pretty high). Of course not. The main thing is that I liked it (or in MM\'s case, he liked it).

From this, I deduce that "Graphically AAA" means, quite accurately, squat, in my books at least. I\'m not into gaming because of graphics. It\'s because of games. PStwo, there is no such thing as "graphically AAA." There is only AAA, and not AAA. If you call a game AAA because of its graphics, then just about every Xbox game would be called AAA -- which kind of defeats the purpous of distinguishing games as AAA or not AAA. An AAA game needs good graphics, but even more importantly it needs good controls, sound, and GAMEPLAY too.
And just incase you\'re not sick of it yet, AAA AAA AAA AAA AAA. :p

Those halo and doa3 screens dont look that great even though i would have to say that doa3 looks good in reality. But when did that make it an AAA title??? And as much as ppl bash the ps2 launch i have to say that i had a blast playing some of those games. I have a dc and the graphics on ps2 were fine to me. TTT was fixed for the american release, timesplitters was a riot, Fantvision looked kool and i enjoyed it. The beautiful scenery with some oddly addictive gameplay, especially in 2pl mode. I luved rr5. I like racing games and i like rr so.. Whats really weird is that i even enjoyed Orphen. lol. W/e all im saying is that ppl just love to find the bad in things, i just say shut up and play. One mans trash can be another mans treasure. I think xbox is ok but i really think, even with ps2\'s competittion that it still has so many promises and i luv it to death. Its funny how topics like this bring out the true colors in people.

Well since xbox has launched how many AAA games have been released for PS2? 1, MGS2 (one could argue GTA3, but I really think this is a horrible game, anyway...). I think Halo is the better game from a replayability standpoint, but that doesn\'t matter.
You people have such high standards for AAA games, that there really can only be 2 or 3 a year. That\'s fine, and I agree, but saying that doesn\'t invalidate every other xbox game that has been released. There have been some very fine games released, that while may not be AAA, are very strong and fun.
How many AAA titles have been released for GC? None if the criteria is system sellers.
How many are coming up for PS2 or xbox this year?
I\'m just asking for perspective.

I don’t know what qualifies a game as "AAA".. But I do know what good games are.. (GTA3, MGS2, ICO, Jak and Daxter (some hate it.. I love it), DMC ect)
Now.. Back to 10fps MoH:AA :)

I\'d rather you stay out of all xbox talks, all you do is spew your opinion of Halo, which is quite funny, theres rarely ever slow down and the 4 player matches are great, much better than Bond or PD. And when comparing it to PC shooters, thats not fair, were talking about consoles here, so Halo is a great console FPS

Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I still consider DOA2:Hardcore the best fighting game ever made and maybe DOA3 would top that if I had a chance to play it more. But I digress...
Anyway HALO is fun as hell. ESPECIALLY co-op. I\'m beating the game on Heroic and after this I\'ll go for Legendary. mm, you may not play it all the time but I make up for you. :D

Ironfist, you do make good points but they have nothing to do with the arguement. The debate was about graphics, not gameplay...
Point is that PS2 had it\'s share of problems and let downs only to be reconciled later with quality games that really start to push the system...same will happen with Xbox. You\'re trying to read way too much into it...this is a rather lighthearted and shallow debate...
Could developers already be reaching the Xbox\'s pinnacle? Hmmm... It really woudn\'t be that surprising given the Xbox\'s well known architecture/familiar graphics libraries.
Or could it be wishful thinking on your part for some strange reason?? Do you seriously believe the Xbox is at it\'s peak or even close too?
Sony was trying something new. That\'s their excuse. Without companies taking risks, this industry will not grow. I don\'t know if Sony\'s risk will turn out to be worth while or not, but at least they are playing around with new ideas.
What\'s your point? The debate was comparing the launches of the systems as to the graphic quality of the launch games and soon after...
Correction: GT3 and FFX came before DMC
In what country? ? devil may cry came out in March or April of 2001...right? Then Gran Turismo and FFX came out that summer in Japan? Either way this is pointless, the debate was about launch games and as to whether the Xbox\'s stacked up...

visuals are not important to make a AAA game, it just so happens (by coincidence perhaps??) that the very best games are made by the most talented developers, hence why they have bettter graphics..

i also agree the term AAA is used entirely too much...as far as im concernened now, AAA games should really be considered the very best...
for me, these games include Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Zelda and the likes...the very biggest and best games..

halo is a great game, i would never say it wasnt
but you CANNOT say there isnt any slowdown
it runs at 30 FPS tops, and ive seen it slow down to a frickin crawl in two player when we throw multiple grenades
no excuse for a powerhouse console
