Oh my, real time (yes, REAL TIME) shots from the PS2 version (yes, the PS2 version, not the XBOX version).
This game looks amazing

Sorry m8.. i\'m 99% sure that these are not PS2 shots. The bump mapping gives it away.
I also believe these pictures to be pre-rendered or at least on dev kits. There\'s no way the PS2 could do that
-
Looks CG:ish..
Or downsized PC shots. :nerd:

Well, Codemasters have said that these shots are all real time running on PS2 hardware (dev kits).
GT3 uses bump mapping.
-
look at the bottom right hand corner
PC DVD rom
/me thinks theres yer answer
-
But it also says PS2.
I don\'t know why its so hard to believe these are real time. I mean, If its CG, which I doubt it is, then its really bad CG...
The cars looks good, but its nots CG quality. I mean, theres hardly any reflections...

Racer, GT3 Doesn\'t use bump mapping at all m8. seriously, you play something like Serious Sam 2 with a greforce 3 card..
now that\'s bump mapping m8. i\'m yet to see a game use it on the PS2. the PS2 cannot do bump mapping in hardware,
this is why we havn\'t seen any yet. the software code to make it is very complex and batters cpu cycles.
it will drag the games framerate right down.
Anyone agree.. or has anyone seen \'propper\' bump mapping on PS2.
I\'m not bashing Racer, far from it.. but i\'m a little into graphics and from my view, the PS2 hasn\'t yet produced bump mapping
Also, check out the resolution of those shots.. no television set can re-produce those resolutions
so expect (at least) downsampled versions.
-
Now i believe this to be a PS2 screenshot
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.codemasters.com%2Ftocaracedriver%2Fimages%2Fscreenshots%2Fcar_tvr.jpg&hash=bf5bad9c460e8a61c5ad73040c3b1b95fc6aa3c9)
Look at the difference in the floor textures, geometry and resolution.. it\'s as plain as day
-
To me they look like 1900x1280 something downsized to 640x480..
MS likes to pull this stunt too.. Tsk tsk Codemasters.

Im not sure if PS2 can do bumpmapping in hardware or not.
Why we havent seen this effect in games before is because the way PS2 renderers Polygons.. If I understood this (http://boards.ign.com/message.asp?topic=18739408&page=1) topic correctly.
There are a few games that use bumpmapping.. The Thing, Starfighter 2 Jedi.. And Jason Rubin has said that Jak and Daxter 2 will use bumpmapped textures..
-
I don\'t see any bumpmapping on those first screenshots. Still, it looks a bit too good to be on PS2.
-
yeah i can\'t see any bumpmapping in those first screens either. And yeah it does look too good to be true... First of all, there are absolutely no jaggies, the models are too smooth so I have a really hard time believing it\'s PS2 ingame shots nor Xbox ones for that matter
-
looks good, something looks weird about the alpha romeos though, the bumpers dont seem to stick out!!
the other shot doesnt look so good
-
the first shots are pre rendered not ps2 not pc and the second pic is a poor quality i\'ll go and look for some better ones

-
Well, in a year or 2, games will (hopefully) look like that on the ps2. I cant wait!!
P.S - Those pics look sweeeet!!

Yes, these pics are claimed to be real time (this comes right from Codemasters mouth) and they look similar too the ones I poseted.
Also, the above two links were the first ever pics shown of the game (in like June last year).
Mine are 5 BRAND NEW pics from the lastest PS2 build.
Now, I am not saying that I fully beleive them to be 100% real time PS2 pics, cause they are pretty good, but remeber, PS2 is a pretty mean piece of hardware, and Codemasters have been working on this game for 3 years.
-
Wow those pics are nice... now lets get back to relatiy shall we? ;)
-
OK guys, i hope that i\'m wrong.. i really loved Toca 1 & 2 so i\'m waiting for this with anticipation.
-
Here are some real time (supposedly) of V8 Challenge (The name of the game in Australia). These are off the developers official site.

EDIT - There are two games called V8 Super Challenge (Toca 3 in Australia will be called V8 Challenge) so I am not sure if these are from the TOCA game or from another one. BUT, they are both for PS2... Hmmm, Screens look kinda similar...
I am not sure now.
-
EA sports dont make toca
-
:surprised V8 looks freaking nice...too bad I\'m not into racers but if that\'s realtime then the ps2 isn\'t even in it\'s prime yet.
