PSM magazine also said that Sony might give the HDD away for free if you sign up for one of their ISPs.  That could really make the HDD add on be successful.  It sounds like Sony\'s online plans might actually work. :D  I can\'t wait for REonline!

perhaps its just me, but RE online would suck

RE is not a fast paced game, its paced for a reason

thats why all the previous RE\'s were single player

whats its gonna be, a 3rd person view quake deathmatch game?

starrs vs zombies?

this whole online thing is turning into a gimmick

thx for the info, tho

"Three new online games from Sega, including a racer." - Ironfist

*Crosses fingers and prays for Phantasy Star Online 2 (not v.2)* That game truely kicks ass online. Add in a great story, make it Massively Multiplayer, bring back RAcaseals, and make it incompatable with GameShark & other cheat devices and I\'m THERE!!!

To hell with Final Fantasy Online... this would definately be my game of choice!! This is the one that would make me put off getting a new mobo & processor for my PC in lue of a HDD & Modem... even at 150 bucks. Only if it\'s a true sequel to PSO though.. not some lame v.3 crap.

I Loooooove RAcaseals. :D

This is great, even if it\'s only a bad translation, but it looks like my long-standing wish may come true:

A tv tuner and "TV Replay" feature to be added to the PS2+HDD. I always figured they\'d bring something like that out after first hearing that the HDD would be *40GB*.

It\'s mentioned in one of those Japanese articles, but I wouldn\'t peg it for more than a "this will be possible" teaser.

And then look at this..

I think it\'s a good idea... gropus would choose zombies or policemen... nice and funny, and remember that Capcom didn\'t think launch any RE for PS2, so I\'m pleased :P

MM, there are lots of possibilities for what REOnline could be.  Here are some things that I\'ve thought of.

1.  They could just have it be 1-4 players, and you can all go through the game co-op.  Of course they should vamp up the difficulty if you\'re playing with multiple players.  I\'ve been wanting a multiplayer RE game ever since the first, and if this turns out to be it, then it\'s a definate purchase.  And maybe if it\'s only from 1-4 players, it can either be played on one PS2 with your friends, or online with other people around the world.

2.  When you join an online game, you can choose what you want to be, a bad guy (zombie, dog, boss, etc), who can choose where you want to start in the game, or a good guy, who can either start at the beginning, or join up with a group of people.  Then the game should still be played the same, the good guys need to get to the end of the game without losing, but real life players controlling the bad guys are trying to stop them.  The bad guys can go from room to room hunting down people who are trying to make it through the game, or they could set up traps with multiple guys in one area waiting for their victims.  The good can go through the game either alone, or with a group of people trying anything to stay alive.  Now you may think, "wow, that sounds boring.  If you are like the end boss or something, you will be waiting for hours just for someone to come."  But because there can be multiple groups of players trying to make it through the game at once, you will almost always be fighting people.  And you can team up with some normal bad guys (so it\'s a group of normal bad guys and a big bad guy could be hunting down victims together. :))

And doing this, you could set up competitions like, "see if you can get through this area of the game without dying," and the first person who does it is the winner.  One person (or a group of people) would try to get through, while everyone else would be the back guys trying to stop them.  Then when the good guys die, they would be the bad guys and new people would get a chance to try and make it through.

Of course there would have to be a lot of balancing and tweaking for all that to work, but I think it would be pretty fun if they got it to work how I am picturing it.

Capcom has probably thought of tons of other ideas of how to put it online too.  It will be interesting to see how the final version turns out.

could be good, but would have to limit te amount of players a lot, and get rid of narrow alleys, or you just stand there while the person first in the line shoot

It looks interesting but with all the delays it\'s making me wonder about how strong a presence the HD will actually make in the US  market.  We all know the story with add-ons...

I think Sony wants to get it right the first time, and not rush it out. They want to make the right connections + support from the devs (which we see they have.. At least from Japanese developers)

As we say here:

"He who waits for something good, never waits to long"

That didnt sound right, did it? Sounds much better in swedish :p

All the info you need.

In a move that seems perfectly timed to steal thunder from Microsoft\'s Xbox launch next week in Japan, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) on Wednesday held a press conference in Tokyo to reveal many of its plans for 2002.
Included in the announcements was a rundown of some of the biggest titles headed for PlayStation 2 this year--many of which have been completely shrouded in secrecy up until now--as well as a better peak at what Sony\'s online service will entail.

First off, the online games. While Microsoft has been touting its Xbox as the platform of choice for online gaming (without actually showing much in terms of online software yet), SCE today announced a list of online PS2 games that is likely to sway all opinion in Japan. Here is a quick rundown of the titles that the company spoke about:

Resident Evil Online (Capcom)
Gran Turismo Online (Sony)
Hot Shots Golf Online (Sony)
Vib Ribbon Online (Sony)
Arc the Lad Online (Sony)
Auto Modellista (Capcom)
Tokyo Xtreme Racer Online (Genki)
Hundred Swords (Sega)
Guru Guru Onsen (Sega)
Untitled Sim Game (Sega)
Untitled Racing Game (Sega)
Untitled 3D Flight Sim (Namco)
Untitled Action Adventure Game (Namco)
Namco Sports Online (Namco)
Clockwork Online (Namco)
Bomberman Online (Hudson)
Untitled Multiplayer Action Game (Tecmo)
Armored Core Sigma (From Software)
Nobunaga\'s Ambition Online (Koei)
The Dungeon of Druaga (Arika)
Untitled Music Game (Konami)
Untitled Sports Game (Konami)
Untitled Online Multiplayer RPG (Atlus)
Final Fantasy XI (Square)

The biggest announcement of the bunch is likely Resident Evil Online, although this is a game that Capcom has admitted to having been working on several times in the past. While Capcom has kept a handful of Resident Evil titles exclusive to Nintendo\'s GameCube, Resident Evil Online will at least still be playable on the PS2 (and, if all goes according to Capcom\'s original vision for the game, it\'ll run across all three platforms). As for Namco\'s announced online games, the "Untitled 3D Flight Sim" is likely to be a new installment in the Ace Combat series, and the "Untitled Action Adventure Game" is said to be a new Klonoa game. Unfortunately, none of the announced online titles carried specific release dates, but most are expected to fall within this year.

SCE also revealed a bunch of offline PS2 games for this year:

XI Explosion (Sony)
Ape Escape 2 (Sony)
Ninja Assault (Namco)
Fantavision For Couples (Sony)
Power Smash 2 (Namco)
Moto GP3 (Namco)
Ninja Assault (Namco)
Time Crisis 3 (Namco)
Tales of Destiny 4 (Namco)
Bomberman Land 3 (Hudson)
Axis (Namco)
Clock Tower 3 (Capcom)
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Electronic Arts)
Lord of the Rings (Electronic Arts)

As for its online plans in Japan, SCE revealed some new details on its Broadband service for PS2. According to the company, the service will be provided by SCE but will be delivered through multiple ISPs, so subscription packages could vary based on the carrier. The basic services that SCE will offer from the start are a PS one game player (it plays emulated versions of the games over the net), a PS2 game player (downloadable PS2 games), E-mail and Instant Messanger functions, PlayStation Jukebox (downloadable music), and the Real Player software (for downloadable media such as movie files).

SCE also revealed that it plans to offer software that will allow the PS2, in conjunction with the Hard Disc Drive (HDD), to function as a video recording device (along the lines of TiVo).

TMB Online is coming..
TimeSplitters 2 will have a online function, you\'ll be able to download maps. Im not sure if they are adding the multiplayer.

We will see when you show their plans for the US/European markets.
But if the Japanese announcement is anything to go by, they its looking very good :) (IMO)

I\'m with you Iron,so tired of the same stuff...always the same stuff...
Finally something new,and the potential of a REOnline is huge...hope Capcom will succeed in doing such a ticklish project!

I enjoyed so much the first RE but, sequel after sequel,I\'ve lost interest and I still consider RE1 the best of the series:)
...I want a not-linear adventure, played by a team of 2,3,4,...even 16 guys, where the actions of each member affect and influence the course of the adventure,as I were truly immersed in a city infested by zombies, giving of my best to stay alive with the help of my friends...

...I\'m thinking of situations which can be only solved with the joined actions of more guys,an enthralling and dynamic adventure where you\'re continuously in touch with the other members of the team and act on the basis of received info,etc...

It should be great...and as Iron said...there\'re a lot of possibilities...

The Resident Evil series is based on solo clasutorphobic situations. Those events cannot take place in an online world, where you have multi-players. Its actually quite simple why RE should never go online, the same is to be said about RE:Survivor series.

The BBA (Broadband Adapter) has two types of connections. One regular v90 (56.6) modem connection and one 10/100Mbit Ethernet connection.
