The dreamcast has a couple of movie players such as mpeg player and divxplayer. But isent there a similar to playstation 2 ? It has a dvd-player, but why not a divx-player disc?
Would be kind of nice to play those blizzard movie-teasers in the PS2 with bigscreen.. :)
Oh, and another question, can Ps2 play mpeg-2 encoded cd\'s?
\'Cus i burned a mpeg-2 encoded cd on a 900mb cd, but it wont play.

I read about a DivX player coming to PS2.
I think they are waiting for the HDD to come.
(Btw.. I think you can get DivX players for Linux.. You could use the Linux version for PS2.. But Im not sure they could be viewed on a TV though. (Just via VGA))
No.. PS2 cant play VCD\'s :(

Ive heard Sony might support DivX though. They might compress their downloadable movies with DivX :)

Ah, a light in the dark.. thank you.
Would you please give me some food now?

I hope Sony would indeed support Divx when the HDD comes out. Imagine downloadable game previews in small sizes but Hi Rez well not really all that small but if you have Broadband then it\'s smooth sailing. But other than for game previews and such I really don\'t see much need for divx on PS2 but it could have other uses eventually but most could end up in big legal debates probably.

ohhhhhh I don\'t know. Considering that DivX is hacked version of mpeg-4, and Sony\'s anti-piracy standards are pretty high I think it\'s all just rumors.

DivX 3.11 was an hacked version.
The new version (4.01) is rebuilt and recoded. No hacking here!
(And why would Blizard use an hacked codec in their trailers/sneek previues)
-
Oh ok, thanks I didn\'t know that 4.01 was designed from scratch. Wish I could help you with your question about Blizzard\'s movies but I\'ve never seen em.

Well sony developers are F******** and need to ask us about how to develope......ohwell im a bit enoyed about what yous were talking about ,we will see what happens.

If the HD for PS2 will be cheap, I will put my crew of Linux-coders on it.
After a week without food and water, the all-round-movieplayer will be done ;)
