Americans place Lincoln at top of greatest presidents\' poll, George W. Bush ahead of Reagan
Mon Feb 18, 5:16 PM ET
WASHINGTON - Abraham Lincoln has moved to the top of the list of greatest presidents in an ABC News poll for President\'s Day that saw George W. Bush ease ahead of Ronald Reagan (news - web sites) in the overall survey and among Republicans.
Lincoln was chosen by 20 percent, while the current president and John F. Kennedy were essentially tied for second — with Kennedy at 14 percent and Bush at 13 percent. Reagan, Bill Clinton and Franklin Roosevelt were tied for third at 8 percent apiece.
In the same ABC poll a year ago, Reagan was at the top with 18 percent, Kennedy 16 percent and Lincoln 14 percent.
Kennedy and Lincoln were tied atop the list among Democrats this year, whereas Lincoln was the easy winner among independents, and Bush and Lincoln led among Republicans, with Reagan slightly behind them.
Lincoln was first among whites, but second among blacks, who overwhelmingly chose Clinton as the greatest president. One of Lincoln\'s best known achievements was freeing the slaves during the Civil War. Roosevelt was the leader among those 65 and older.
The poll was conducted Feb. 13-17 among a sample of 1,025 adults and had an error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
I would have voted for Clinton, just because he seems like a cool guy to just hang out with.

I would have voted for our current president, Pres Bush. :)
-
Woohoo, go Clinton, our cigar man! Haha, he was cool. :)
-
GO NIXON.
-
I would have a tough time placing Clinton on my list of presidents let alone greatest presidents.
It shows how much Americans know about history. I\'m included. I don\'t know a heck of a lot as well, but what\'s sad is I know more than 70% of americans and that is sad.

bah, the greatest president and the greatest american EVER was george washington. followed by Eisenhower. who else would have made the decision to drop the bomb? he had balls the size of melons
the "blacks" have no shame i guess, in choosing clinton as the best president. it shows how little they actually know/care

Yes but if we didn\'t have Sept. 11 then everyone would hate him so much, but now since he has the balls to go kill ****in terrorists I\'d say he\'s not bad

Eisenhower wasn\'t president during WW2. It was President Truman. He made the call to drop the A-bombs in Japan.

yeah, i thought of that on the bus into town this morning
it was funny cause i said it out loud
"truman was president at the time, not Ike!"
everyone around me probably thought i was crazy

I wouldn\'t really care, with me being Canadian and all.

GW Bush and Kennedy TIED!!! hah hah ha that\'s funny as hell. Clinton and Roosevelt tied for third is almost equally disgusting. I think I\'m going to be sick.
Here\'s my list:
1. Thomas Jefferson
2. Franklin Roosevelt
3. Abraham Lincoln
4. Andrew Jackson
5. John Kennedy
Honorable mention: Warren Harding

What about William Henry Harrison? He was in office like 30 days, got drunk, passed out in the snow, and died of pnemonia. Now he accomplished some stuff!
No one has mentioned that Clinton gave us the largest economic boom in US history. If u like money, then u gotta give Clinton some props.
-
Actually, the economic boom was a direct result of.............
Reaganomics. (you can\'t give clinton credit for that, the cogs were turning while he was still bangin\' secretaries in Arkansas.)
-
How could someone EVER vote Clinton as the best president EVER?????????????????? Thats ludicris!!!:D The guy was IMO the worst of our presidents. He deserved to be impeached out of office more than once.

ARE YOU KIDDING?
How do you explain the recession during George Bush\'s term then? The true answer is the economic boom was the direct result of .....
NO PRESIDENT!
All politicians take credit for crap they had nothing to do with. This is one of the oldest truisms in western civilization. Get used to it.

My favorite President is Mel Gibson. Although he wasn\'t really president I really liked him in the Patriot movie 4score and some years ago we shot cannons at people\'s heads and ate dogs and stuff.
He could throw Tomahawks pretty well, too. Oh and he killed Timothy Dalton b/c HE WAS A BAD JAMES BOND!

that\'s not what happened, he gave the longest Inaugeral Speech and didn\'t wear a coat, caught pnemonia and got drunk along the way he died because of freezing his ass off with his huge inaugeral speech not to accomplish anything

Reganomics! LOL What a fukking joke! Reganomics did nothing but make the rich richer, kill unions, and make the poor unemployed. If anybody did anything to help boost the economy it was Alan Greenspan and those tech heads down in Silicon Valley. Remember, that it was the expansion of the web and the boom in personal computers that opened up a whole new and lucrative market for the US economy to prosper. Reganomics.. lol.. you\'ve been brainwashed son. Turn off Rush Limbaugh for a moment and try to get some REAL news. Christ, why would anyone listen to a guy who\'s had an encyclopedia set\'s worth of books written about all the things he\'s gotten wrong.
Best president IMO would have to be FDR, Lincoln, or LBJ. Yes, that\'s right, LBJ. Anyone who could coverup a massive assassination plot covering several branches of the government and FBI and conquer overwhelming evidience with a massive pack of bullshyt deserves some props. The coolest president would have to be Kennedy. He lived life to the fullest. Who\'s dream isn\'t to be looking out over the Washington Monument with one hand in Marylin Monroe\'s pantys and the other on the button telling the Russians to get their *@#%ing missles out of Cuba in 48 hours? Sure it didn\'t work out exactly that way.. but still.. he was a pimp. There\'s no denying that.
