Title: There\'s a perfect circle around the moon
Post by: Seraphim Pride on February 25, 2002, 08:37:19 PM
A few of my friends online were telling me about it so I went outside and looked and indeed there is a perfect ring around the moon.  It\'s really wide.  It looks freaky...has anyone else seen this.

i just went and looked....the only thing that looks close to a "ring" is the light clouds or pollution in the sky being lit up by the moon.....kind of creates a ring effect.

was this just a trick to get me up off my ass?.....if so mission acomplished.

I\'m not lying well maybe it looks different from where you\'re at but I\'m in New Jersey and all my friends went outside and looked at it then I did and saw this weird ring I doubt pollution could form a perfect circle around the moon but whatever you say man I guess I\'m the only witness here

Wow, y\'all are lame.  It\'s called an aura.  At this point-in-time.  New Jersey must be at just -right of an angle to view the moon through a probably sky of tiny ice crystals, with it being cold and all.  The ring is defracted at a 20-something degree angle by the ice crystals.  This is possible because of the partiucular andgle of sun - moon - viewpoint.

No prob.  I\'ll always be willing and ready to squash ignorance.  Then cook it, then eat it, then crap it out, and squash it again. . . or maybe I\'ll just flush it.

i was gonna put a pic of the members of a perfect circle standing around the moon and ask "does it look kinda like this"
but lack of imagination, photoshop, web space, and sense of humor prevented me form doing this

Thats the first order de fusion of light comming in from the moon

here is who it works

light is reflected on the moon by the sun

this is then seen by us on Earth

the Light is "White" light

hence the white moon

now the light is then defused like a prism when it travels through the Earth Atmosphere

and hence you get a ring of light around the moon

Sorry ooseven, but I liked Trog\'s explanation a bit better. It sounded a bit more techy if you know what I mean.;) :D

Yeah, that\'s definately fun. What I usually do though is Squash it, cook it, eat it, crap it out, then stick it in a brown paper baggie on someone\'s porch, light it on fire, ring their doorbell and run like hell.

Never seen rings around the moon.. but I saw a Rainbow circle around it once. Someone tried to tell me that it was part of a Native American prophecy concerning the end of the world, seein as how the white buffalo had already been born. Nice story, but that\'s all it was. Still looked cool though. Wish the pictures we we\'d taken wouldda came out right. :(

Would you like the pill form or liquid form?

I\'ve seen it too.  All it is is vaporation from water near by.

Pollution makes the moon turn Yellow, what we call the Harvest Moon.
