Title: Sony launches PS2 Greatest Hits line

Sony launches PS2 Greatest Hits line
[02.26.02] » Low price, green bar inflicted on a new generation of software.
Though the PS2\'s price has remained at $300 since its launch in October 2000, select games in its library are about to get an official price drop. The successful Greatest Hits line of hit titles reintroduced at lower prices is coming to PS2; to qualify, games must sell more than 400,000 copies and have been on the market for over 9 months. Initial games in the Greatest Hits lineup include SCEA\'s Dark Cloud, Gran Turismo 3, Twisted Metal: Black, and ATV Offroad Fury. Suggested retail price for the budget line is $25, though individual resellers may set prices lower.

- Not much of a price drop. . . is it?  I was thinking it should be more around $15.  Then I\'d be super-happy.

Just think, all you have to do is wait 9 months after a sucessful game comes out to get it at a cheap price!

Nine months isn\'t long enough.  Perhaps a year at the very least.

A great game is released, and it\'s a sure fact that it will sell 400,000 copies in a nine-month time span.  You want it, but do you buy it now or wait until the price is reduced to $25?

If the time it took to receive that price drop was extended to over a year, the choice would be simple:  Buy the game now, because waiting a year for that game is not worth the initial price tag.  With only nine months the choice is a lot harder to make, because it\'s really not a very long time to wait.

Like Kopking said in Europe (or UK anyway) they are platinum games. Thing is it isn\'t a nine month wait unfortunatly so a lot of games which should be "platinum" like SSX and Ridge Racer just to name two aren\'t platinum and are still selling for their original price.

So I think although in a sense its a bigger price drop for us British, you Americans still pay less due to the conversation rate and get more games too chose from.

Not that im complaining im just glad that us British get the platinum game range at all its just a shame that its not as good as what you Americans are getting.

Why can\'t we have a "platinum" line? Instead we get the "ugly ass green bar at the top" line.

k before i say anything im not sure if you were being sarcastoc or not so dont take offense

but come on half price is way over worth it - i mean 15 dollars - the psx greatest hits arent even that much

25 is about right if you ask me

Well, you got me man. I was being a bit sarcastic. But in defense of me saying they would sell more if they were $15, the price speaks for itself. Besides, I see allot of the PS greatest hits selling for around $14.99 here in my hometown. I\'m only saying that at a lower price (which Sony could most likely afford) I would be buying more of the games that I missed at their debut.;)

Im just looking forward to some more games. :D

Although the first batch ain\'t too bad. I wouldn\'t mind Twisted Metal Black though. I wonder when that is on platinum in Europe.

Resi Evil - Code Veronica X would be good on budget I reckon...

Although I can pick up a second hand copy of any PS2 for £25 at my mates store, but I want to get new copies of old games for that price...cause you get receipts and guarantees on them...

I would love to see a few more decent titles on Platinum...
