Title: Good and Bad games based on movies
Post by: FifaSeriesFan on February 28, 2002, 02:37:15 AM
A new topic for everybody to think about

What games have been bad and good ports from the big screen?

To me there has to be:

Good -
Toy Story 2 - PSone
Goldeneye - N64
The World Is Not Enough - N64 & PSone
Moonwalker - Arcade & MegaDrive

Bad -
Monsters Inc:Scare Island - PS2 (good but I did it in 2 nights)
Blade - PSone
Robocop 2&3 - NES & Mega Drive
Mission Impossible - N64 & PSone
Tommorrow Never Dies - PSone

Thats all I can remember for now, but I\'m sure there will be more...

Cool topic - as per usual, I like your posts. :)

Good

Yeah I agree Toy Story 2 was a classy platformer.
Goldeneye and Moonwalker are good too.
Blade runner on the PC was fairly sweet.
That old platformer Robocop wasn\'t half bad in the day.

Can\'t think of many more.

Bad ones...

Any Disney game except Toy Story 2. :D

Good

Thanx, I appreciate it very much mate, I\'m just trying to make different topics instead of the old "what do u think of this game?"
or "This console is better than that one"

But if you or anybody else has anymore suggestions then tell me...

Toy Story 2 was superb and I also remember The Lion King on the Mega Drive which was fantastic, where you had to make the monkeys swing you onto the giraffes heads and to the end of the level on level 2!
I loved that game!

Oh yeah the Lion King. Forgot about that. Prehaps not all the Disney games are bad then. :D

An old Amstrad game called Airwolf was fairly cool but it was so hard to complete.

I wonder how The Lord of The Rings game will turn out.

I bet Harry Porter is a fairly naff game.

EDIT - Oh yeah what about Batman. The very first one, that platform game was fairly cool. There was a isometric 3d one which was quite cool as well, the predisour (sp?) to one of my favorite games ever, Head over heels. :)

Yeah Harry Potter, that game did suck cause it was aimed at kids...
Thanx I forgot bout that...

My money is on Lord Of The Rings being a strategy game like "Star Wars - Galactic Battlegrounds"

I remember Airwolf on the Amstrad!

Oh yeah the Batman game on the MD was good for a while...

There are a lot I can remember now!

Any more ideas?

:D

Star Wars On the NES was fantastic too!
Don\'t play Harry Potter it\'s too easy...

Others that sucked where "The Last Action Hero" and The Batman sequels...

The Terminator was good too...

Can u class the excellent "Robocop Vs Terminator" as a movie game cause it was fantastic!

AvP 1&2 as well...

:)      :D      :nerd:

Oh yeah Star Wars, forgot about them. I wasn\'t all too keen on them but loads of other people liked them so I guess they were good.

Carmeggedon, that was based on a movie called Death Race 2000. That game was class when it was first released.

Oh yeah some of the Alien games are good. Like Alien Resurrection on the PSX and Aliens Verus Preditor on the PC.

Ill try and think up some more. :)

EDIT - You got AvP in before me. :D

The Turtles arcade game was class but thats based more on the series than the movie.

The Indiana Jones games were pretty boring after a while...
But thats cause Lara Croft came onto the scene...

I\'m hoping "Shrek" on the Xbox is good too Rich

:D                               :)

Nice topic ;p

Good - Blade Runner for PC, Raiders of the Lost Ark for the Atari 2600, X-Files for the PC (TV show but same general premise), Toy Story 2, Friday the 13th for the Comm64...I\'ve got more but not coming to me right now

Bad - Can think of several but to emphasize prolly the most famous one, just think of caves in the southwest USA....ET for the Atari 2600 ;p

I only quickly played Robocop Vs Terminator in Comet / Currys once but lets face it, its a cool idea. :)

There was a Nightmare on Elm Street game which was erm naff. I liked the films though.

Oh I remembered a COOL ONE. Back To The Future 2 was an amazing game. Had you racing on a hooverboard round this town on the first level. Shame the third game was naff. I don\'t think there was a Back To The Future 1 game.

ha ha ha! ET for the Atari 2600! Don\'t remind me!
They buried loads of unsold copies of that in the desert!

Robocop vs Terminator was a fantastic game and I wanna play it again!

Thanx as well Insley nice to know you and Rich are interested...

:)

My brain is spinning trying to remember more!

but there\'s loads!

Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story on the MegaDrive was hard but very good!

And SpiderMan on the PSone was just fantastic!

Number 2 was just the same...

I\'m hoping the Robocop and Terminator games both for the PS2 will be good but I reckon they will be average FPS games which will be finished quickly...

They both may use an engine or be fresh ideas...

Oh yeah The Italian Job was ok but it was murdered by GTA3!

We could be here all day but I am enjoying this topic!

Yeah me too.

There is a Robocop game coming out for the PS2 in September. I remember seeing screenshots for it a while back. It actually looks cool. :)

Im quietly looking forward to it.

You play as John Connor in the Terminator PS2 game...

How about "T2 the Arcade Game" for the MegaDrive where you used the "Menacer" light gun which went over your shoulder?

you must remember that one Rich, buddy!

T2 on the NES was brilliant as well!

:D

Yeah I sure do. :)

You can get old arcade boards at ebay but then you gotta buy cases for them and stuff and it becomes an expensive hobby. Still wouldn\'t mind having an arcade machine though. :)

Im still trying to think of more film games. That Back To The Future 2 one is a gem of a game though.

If I had an arcade I\'d get The Simpsons arcade game definetly!

Spawn did suck though

Alien Trilogy was great in its time but is it me or did they just have credits and no ending on that game?

Evil Dead on the PSone was ok, but Star Wars Episode 1 Sucked donkey balls and Star Wars Pod Racer was a great game for a laugh and a two player and it was just fast and was very good when it came out too...

I didn\'t like the Lion King game at all.  I\'m red-green colorblind, and I couldn\'t tell where some obstacles were, and I kept on losing.  It sucked.

Lion King and Aladdin were cool games. I also liked Alien Vs Predator, that was good. I\'ve been thinkin this for a while, but GTA3 was a culmanation of quite a few different movies, Die Hard With A Vengeance (get somewhere in time limit etc), Gone in 60 seconds, Fast and Furious, etc.

I would love to see a GOOD game based on Fast and Furious, that would be cool

Evil Dead sucked, and was a disgrace to one of the greatest movie series of all time.  Ash looked nothing like Ash in either in the in game models or the cinemas, and the control sucked.  It was also irritating that I didn\'t really get a chance to absorb the atmosphere in the game, since deadites were spawning ever 2-3 seconds.  Don\'t get me wrong, an action game should have plenty of action, but for god\'s sake let me explore a bit as well.  It\'s a damn shame, considering they did a great job capturing some of the areas from the movies, like the cabin from what I could tell.

About the only good part of this game was Bruce Cambell\'s voice over work, which made up for in-game Ash\'s stiffness.

Rambo 3 and Alien 3 both on the megadrive (genesis) were excellent.

Every Disney game ever made sucks, it is like an unwritten law that as soon as the word disney is involved you know to stay well away from it.
