So. . . what y\'all reading?
Me? I\'m reading Giovanni, it\'s the 10th book in a 13 part series on vampires.
Here\'s my upcoming list:
First I\'ll finish the vampire series, including the Anthology.
Then. . .
Don\'t Open this Book
Waiting for the Galactic Bus
The Snake Oil Wars
Black Seas of Infinity
The Book of the New Sun
Batman: No-man\'s Land[/i]
By summer semester (May) I\'ll be starting the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
-
I\'m currently reading Thomas More\'s Utopia, and 14 War Years (compilation of Canadian war stories).
-
Where\'s Oprah?
Currently I\'m reading, nothing! Because I\'m illeterate, me no read good.
I wish I had time to read for pleasure, but with college, and looking dead sexy, i don\'t have much time.
-
I cant read.
But if I could I would definatly read all Hot Rod magazines.
-
Just got done reading D. A. Nobles\' "Understanding the Times". I\'ve read J.R.R. Tolkiens\' "Hobbit" and C.S. Lewis\' Chronicles of Narnia. All of which are great books. I\'ve been reading the Bible for about 8 months now too. Can\'t wait to finish that.
-
I\'m currently reading To Kill a Mockingbird. It\'s the last novel that I have to read in my English class this year.
Once I get some free time (hopefully over the summer), I\'m going to start reading Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
-
I\'m currently reading Patience & Fortitude which is sort of a sequel to A Gentle Madness by Nicholas Basbanes. Being a librarian, it was natural for me to read these books.
In the queue following this are:
A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
Saving Monticello : The Levy Family\'s Epic Quest to Rescue the House That Jefferson Built by Marc Leepson
Finally, I might get a copy of The Silmarillion, which I\'ve never read.
Reading is Fundamental :bounce:

I rarely read books besides those asigned in school. It has to be a topic that really sparks my interest. The last book I read on my own was Eight Men Out. I recently finished reading The Power and the Glory as an outside reading book from school. With that atleast I had a choice of several different books to read.
Mainly, in my own free time I read magazines, and articles online. I guess I have a short attention span or something.
-
Merrick and The Witching Hour...Next up will be Lasher.
-
I think everyone should also post the name of their FAVORITE book of all time.
I have many favorites, but just like with movies, I believe I can name one book which stands above the others and really had a strong impact on me.
It\'s a novel about the life of a US solider in Vietnam called Close Quarters. It was written by Larry Heinemann, and originally published in the early 70\'s. Back in college I set out to read as much Vietnam fiction as I could because I was a history student, and I thought this would give me some insight into what I thought would be my area of specialty. There are many find novels about the war, like Going After Cacciato, The 13th Valley, and A Rumor of War but none of them comes close to the power and artistry of Close Quarters. The book is out of print now, but it can easily be found used. I recommend it if you want to learn something about what the Vietnam war was really like.

Right now I\'m reading:
"1984" by George Orwell
and just got done with "Choke" by Chuck Palahniuk (One of my favorite modern writers, he wrote "Fight Club) It\'s plot consists of a sex addict who just might be an ancestor of Jesus Christ and his friend who collects rocks for every day he has been off masturbation. They both work at a historical theme park where everyone is on an illegal substance. The main character make a living faking choking on food at expensive resturants. Fun huh?
And for Coredweller: My favorite book of all time, without a doubt, is "Catch-22"

I\'m currently reading these boards. Ok. Bad joke. I actually don\'t like to read on my own unless forced upon. Right now in english class I\'m reading Inherit the Wind. It clashes religion and science. I love it. I recommend that everyone reads it. Especially those that argue in the religion threads. It\'s a play that was based on a true story (but characters names are changed). The defendent in the trial gets arrested because he taught evolution which was a crime back then (Fundamentalists).

I got a couple for you
George R.R. Martin:
A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
Robert Jordan:
The Wheel of Time series
Of course dat\'s jus me.
-
Just started 2 days ago with Aldous Huxley\'s Brave New World.. Pretty interesting so far. :)
-
I\'m currently reading To Kill a Mockingbird. - 182Ways
God I hated that book. I had to read it 3 times cause I kept failing Engrish class. (was in the top 98% of my class in Engrish on my standardized testing though.. go figure) About the 3rd time through I finally killed the mocking bird. Needless to say my teacher wasn\'t too pleased when I brought my book in with about 12 .38 calibur holes in it. One of the bullets was even still lodged in the book and fell out onto my desk when I opened it. :D
Right now I\'m reading:
The Gentle art of Verbal Self-Defence
Stephen King\'s Dream Catcher
Sydney Fine\'s Sit Down (about the sit down strikes in Flint Michigan)
and Leo Tolstoy\'s War & Peace

WORD.
I\'ve finally read all nine... and I have RJ\'s guide to WOT:) The only one I haven\'t read is the prequel with Moiraine in "Legends". Gotta catch that...
Right now I\'m reading "The Magic of Recluce" by L. E. Modesitt, Jr. It\'s moderately interesting. Finished "The Winter\'s Heart" by Jordan, I have the LoR trilogy in queue:D. Been re-reading "The Guns of the South" by Harry Turtledove, anyone who likes the Civil War MUST read this book, it\'s really good (if a little clichèd). Also waiting for Turtledove\'s latest Colonization novel in Paperback...
Of course I gotta mention Ray Feist\'s various Midkemia novels, I like those even more than Wheel of Time, but only a little :)
Favorite book of all time would definitely be "The Shining" by Stephen King. It\'s the only King book I ever liked, and it\'s always a great read no matter how many times I read it.
-
I re-read "body of secrets" and now i\'m reading Ringworld.

Well, it\'s nice if you like it man, but I have to say that in my opinion, Turtledove SUCKS HARD. I read all four of the first colonization books (or whatever they\'re called), and I thought they were very poorly written. You definitely get the sense that Turtledove was just drawing out that story and padding to it make it a four book series. There was so much redundant crap in there, I couldn\'t believe it. He uses the same cliches over and over and over. You may ask, "why did you read all the books then?" I can only say that it was an interesting story idea but the execution sucked. I just wanted to find out what would happen in the end. It figures that even when you reach the end of the fourth book, it\'s still not over. Urrrrggghhhh. Never again will I read Turtledove.

I haven\'t read in months... now professor said that we must read a play of Shakespeare... grr!

I read that one but didn\'t care for it too much. But if you liked WOT then you\'ll really like A Game of Thrones.

Im reading Tom Clancy The Bear and The Dragon. However I don\'t read too much so it will take me some time to finish. I may do The Lord of The Rings next.

I agree with you, partially. I really enjoyed the WWII era novels, but so far Colonization has been a huge disappointment. Like you, I\'m just waiting to see how it ends, simply because I liked the first series so much.
What did you think of Guns of the South, or his better Civil War novel, How Few Remain, if you\'ve read either?

Sorry I was unclear... the books I read were the ones set during WWII. I guess the "colonization" novels are the ones that came after that. I have not read any of those. My negative comments apply only to the four WWII novels (they all have the word "balance" in the title), and I haven\'t read any other Turtledove stuff.
Hey if you liked those, you should read "Marching Through Georgia" by S.M. Stirling. It\'s another alternate history of WWII. Not all that great in my opinion, but better than Turtledove.

*bump*
-
heh.
Well since it\'s back up here. . .
I\'m now reading "The Book of the New Sun" It\'s a collection of a 4 book series. It\'s a bout way in the future, and the main character is brought up in the guild of the tourturers. Seems like by moving forward humanity moved back.

I don\'t know how to read.. :(
Sucks...
-
read "the great shark hunt" by Hunter S. Thompson what a wacko. I want to read LOTR again, last time I read it I was 12.

That\'s my next book after the one I\'m reading now, I got a nice hardcover 3-in-one collection.

"Strange Manuscript found in a Copper Cylinder" by a little known (and now dead) Canadian author, DeMille.
It\'s a quick read and pretty smart.
