Title: Scatches on Xbox games = "natural friction" says Microsoft Japan
Post by: Chrono on March 04, 2002, 12:32:10 PM
After the launch of the Xbox in Japan, there were reports of users experiencing problems with their Xbox hardware that would cause small scratches to appear on the outside edges of DVDs and audio CDs. The Xbox division of Microsoft Japan has released an official statement on the issue that says the scratches are caused by natural friction that occurs when the disc is in the drive, but it shouldn\'t damage the discs to the extent that they can no longer be used. Microsoft said it would still repair or exchange Xboxes that cease to function entirely.

I\'ve heard cases about PS2 games being scrached, its not happened to me or anybody I know.. but it was not widespread to the point that Sony had to comment about it..

Well your wrong

in the UKi remember a offical press release on the coment of a wide spread shipment of defective Metal Gear Solid 2 demo disks (the ones that came free with ZOE)

apparently the where made to a inccorect ratio and as a result spun round in the drive in such a manner that they scrathed the disk and made it unreadable.

i know this for a fact because i happend to me along with quite a few PS2 owners here in the UK.

oh and P.s.

Chrono for the LAST TIME use the Quote tabs or ELSE !

well..  ooseven,
thats a tad bit differnt

Thats happened in the past, bad game releases

However it appears the scratches are being cause by the console, and not on one specific game

Ok, let\'s calm it down in here, lol.

I can\'t stop laughing from that link.

Anyway, I do believe X-Box\'s situation is far worse than the PS2\'s was in terms of how many people were effected.

I don\'t want to jinx myself, knock on wood, but none of these problems have come across me yet.  Sony builds quality products.
