anybody know or are experienced with martial arts? Or just chat about whatever kind of subject.

I studied Tae Kwon Do for about six years until I quit in 1999. I was able to earn my 1st dan (degree) black belt, but shortly thereafter it got tedious and I lost interest in it all, so I stopped doing it.

I am familiar with the Hazuki style of martial arts..
Yes, that is correct.. I am considered to be a sensei to my colleagues.
My skills also include Tamigoki kick-boxing, and the ancient art of Wazuako. Hi-yah, kassamana.. o-cha! :facelick:

I\'ve studied Kung-fu for about 13 years, on and off. My father being a red sash, meant that I had to learn at least a little bit, I\'ve also boxed, and done some ameture UFC type of fighting.

That\'s great blade. I have been in for 12 years off and on. First with Kempo then Jui Jitzu, and now a whole other art

Watch out for SmallLady... she can kick your @ss. :)

^_^ Thanks Samwise, you know you\'re right ;)
I did Tae Kwon Do for a year, and managed to get a green belt (Oh how I\'ve learned to hate those rainbow colored belts :))
After that I had a little break from the wonderful world of martial arts...
Then, last autumn, I started Iaido, the art of drawing the japanese sword. It has little practical use, but rocks anyway. Now I have my own Japanese sword, a beautiful thing, even though the blade is not sharp (we would hurt ourselves.)
Before that... I took a couple of classes of Ki-aikido, but it was really not for me, too much talking.
Aaaand I have a tattoo which says budo (martial arts, among other things for those who aren\'t familiar with the term) Does that count? ;p
Even though I\'m far from being an expert in any style, I\'ve always been interested in martial arts, just the whole idea & ideology of it really appeals to me.

I\'ve done Judo and Han Moo Do, but got kinda tired of them rather fast. Now I\'m all for Aikido. I\'ve got my first graduation ahead of me in about 10 days.
I also have interest in practising, bodo, jodo, hapkido, or a number of other martial arts alongside my current choice. Unfortunately, this small town of ours doesn\'t cater for people wanting to practice anything else than the most common of martial arts... even aikido is quite new here, and we have about 20 people doing it.

When I was much younger I took some karate. I was a brown belt before I quit I believe.

Done a bit of goshinjitsu, still go every now and then but it\'s no rules so there is always someone bleeding or injured and it\'s not very fun when it\'s you.Getting into a bit of staff and knife fighting to. :)

I started in Judo, learning basing falling and throwing, and moved into Aikido, Jujitsu and Karate when I was a bit older, and mature enough to begin the offensive training more seriously. I believe that was about 13 years old (I started defensive forms, Judo, at 7), and I stopped at about 16, on my last, second to last, and third to last belts (for each form).
Since then, I also took a three week course on \'streetfighting\', which I took from a career cooler, when I began looking into becoming a police officer. I think that martial arts will be more practical though - street fighting, at least the style I learned, is all about putting your man down quickly and painfully, and will probably cause some lasting damage (especially to the knees).

Thats what I have realised too..... wont work with all this kung fu moves u see in the movies hehe :) U have to be fast and effective.
I first trained Hung Gar Kung Fu for 3 years, became too bored going forms and not fight enough, and I felt we were too many training at same time (about 30 peeps with 1 trainer), I have also trained Yang Taichi for 2 years now, I do this martial art more for fun (I like the fancy forms here hehe) but now I only train Taichi alone, so I wont forget the forms I learned. I started with Jeet Kune Do 6months ago, and it is the best thing yet :) We are only 6 peeps, and we are not going to be bigger, something I find very positive, since my trainer will then have time to train us all.
I also train some Kali, but that is included in the JKD training.

You could study it for a hundred years and still not know it all. My advice is if you\'re interested go try one out.

2nd dan here, took me 6 years and I quit...
Koreo, if I had to do that form one more time I would cry.

Does a baseball bat count? Well seriously i never really got into that stuff. But I am a wrestler (in h.s not the professional bull****) so in a way that could ba a self defence. As my coach puts it "All wrestling is, is a controlled fight" And I have to agree. Bout broke my neck once. So I guess I have allot of respect for people that do that stuff but, eh, not for me. So rock on people!!!
-
Hey jinxx I\'m a wrestler too. True in wrestling you have a much greater chance of getting hurt but in a fist fight wrestling won\'t help you much. I mean, you might accidentally pin him!

if you were thinking about becoming a LEO, did you think about taking some Russian Sambo? It consist of mostly joint locks, which you can imagine is quite usefull when trying to get someone to cooperate with you. I\'m thinking about seeing if there are any local teachers, because I\'ll be starting a career as a LEO, within a year.

Ya that is true but it helps with reflex and i have used a hammer lock to make a kid 2x my size submit. it was just the other day too. But I Will admit it isn\'t the greatest in a fight but whatever works works.
