Tecmo made headlines when they announced plans to release their latest fighter \'Dead or Alive 3\' exclusively for Microsoft\'s Xbox. A Japanese developer throwing their weight behind an unproven American console was seen as decidedly risque. According to company president Junji Nakamura however, the gamble has already paid off. Speaking about Tecmo\'s strategy Nakamura-san recently revealed that based on sales in America alone (500,000), Dead or Alive 3 has broken even financially. Globally, Tecmo now anticipates sales in excess of 1 million units. In his own words Nakamura-san said, \'It\'s common sense in this business that your support the most popular console. So it would have been natural for us to choose the PlayStation2, which has shipped over 27 million units worldwide. But there\'s stiff competition in the fighting genre on the PlayStation2 from Namco and Sega as well. In evaluating the Xbox, we realized Dead or Alive 3 would sell so long as the hardware was also well received.\'
Much of Tecmo\'s recent success has been attributed to Nakamura-san\'s global strategy, whereby games are developed with an International audience in mind. Moreover, Nakamura-san admittedly prides himself on keeping an eye on development costs. Speaking about that issue, Nakamura-san said, \'In this business companies tend to give priority to performance rather than the development cost and release schedules. At Tecmo, there\'s a separate manager who works closely with the development team. As a testament to this strategy, only 1 or 2 games have been delayed in the past five years - yielding stable profits for shareholders.\'

0hh, a n00b, is trash talking me, Im sooo scared:rolleyes:
Hey, they make crap games like DOA and call them the best thing on earth. Thats total BS, any real fighting fan will tell you DOA has no depth.
-
Define depth...you\'re most likely comparing DOA to VF or Tekken. In that sense you would be right...but it doesn\'t have to be deep to be fun...longevity may be an issue though.

Depth for me. It used to take me for ever to beat Street Fighter, Im guessing it would take me as long as an hour just to beat the whole game. Yeah, thats lame standards for ya. Ever since I\'ve played DOA, Yeah, I\'ve played them all, except the Japanese one. I\'ve managed to beat all of them in roughtly 2 minutes and 20 seconds. Thats not to much fun. Longevity in a game is a good thing IMO, I just wish fighters of today were like the old school ones. Ala SNK fighters are still awesome, but very dated. The only reason I compared VF to DOA, was because VF, is alot harder to master, there for, its a deep fighter, DOA, is not hard to master at all. Tekken took me about 2 weeks to master, VF took me the longest to get the buttons down and everything. Im all for Long fighters, but oh well. I was slow at learning them when I first started.

No idea..
I heard it was coming to PS2, Xbox and GC.
Then GC only (that’s when they made that NG looks better than DoA3.. When they just a few months earlier said DoA3 was not possible on any other console). Then Xbox and GC only.
Now I have no idea, nor do I care.

you must have never played the first ninja gaiden???

Ninja Gaiden rocked, all three of them (though the third was the worst). As for a 3D sequel, well I can say I don\'t give a damn. I want a 2.5 Ninja Gaiden! Oh well...One can always dream.
:(

It goes without saying that VF4 ~is~ deeper than DOA2 Polished(aka DOA3).
-
ok well actually talking about the article
all it says is that they took a chance and went with Xbox instead of PS2 since the PS2 has more competition aka bigger devs releasing more popular series on it
so when they release DOA3 on Xbox they have no competition - and i agree thats a smart move - too bad they cant admit that the reason is because the other games are better
