Microsoft Clarifies Erroneous Press Report About Xbox in Japan
REDMOND, Wash., March 7, 2002 -- An apparent misinterpretation of information on a Microsoft Japan Web site resulted today in a media report of a recall of Microsoft\'s Xbox™ game console in Japan. This report is incorrect. There is no recall of Xbox in Japan or any other market.
The Xbox Japan Web site did report that Microsoft Customer Care Japan had received a small number of inquires (significantly less than one percent of systems sold) from customers reporting small scratches to the outside edge of some game disks after use in the Xbox game consoles. While this is not a common occurrence, and minor scratching is primarily a cosmetic issue that does not affect performance, a positive customer experience is of the utmost importance to Microsoft. Xbox Japan responded accordingly in its statement offering to evaluate any Xbox system that a customer is concerned about. If a system needs to be repaired or replaced for any reason, Microsoft will do this immediately.
After successful launches in North America and Japan, demand for Xbox continues to be high in all launched markets, and production continues at a rapid pace. Microsoft will launch Xbox in Europe and Australia on March 14, 2002.

And I love how MS continues to call Xbox a sucess in japan. 123K units the first week is horrible, let alone the 30k this week. Sheesh, why does MS have to lie about everything? Like Chrono said, there isn\'t any demand for Xbox in japan really. So why lie about it?

 30K? that\'s a good number for a system that came out for the first time out @ $300+. I think the word of mouth is working. 30K is alot of Xboxes.

Eh?
Xbox did not cost $300 in Japan.. Infact it was very cheap.. Alot cheaper than PS2 was when it was launched.
And no.. 30K for the 2ND week is NOT good.
Even för a western system.. It should have sold a lot more.
Xbox needs "Japanese" games, and the Japanese developers are still very unsure about the Xbox (after these numbers are going to be even more careful).. Its a evil circle..
No Japanese games, no sells, no support..
Better get it sorted before its to late.

Oh ok, they just bought the Xbox with no game. But I still think 30K 2nd, 1st , 5th week it still amazing to see the Xbox even selling 500 a week with the weak games at launch. I only see DOA3 and PGR selling good numbers. 30K for only thoses games? I think they in it for the other up coming games soon. :D

Considering the fact Yahoo Japan, gave MOST of the Xbox games a 0 out of 5, DOA3 got a 3. THAT is laughable.

No no.. Xbox lineup was not weak by MS standards..
They practicly used up all their gunpowder now.. (for the Japanese market atleast)

Sure XBox needs "Japanese" games, but we don\'t know for sure what\'s happening behind the scenes,Microsoft are not stupid,I wanna believe they\'re doing their best...
XBox needs a starter to switch off the stand-by mode of Jap gamers...
-
Uhm... maybe this is the M$ error... No one is in standby mode to buy an XBox... simply they are playing PS2 games. :)
Ouch... 8-)

"Stand-by" mode means they\'re not playing PS2 games?

Last time I checked, alot of them are playing Xenosaga;)

To be more clear: The standby mode was ON & OFF when there was the deploy of the first new generation console.
Very high number of gamers switch the standby mode to ON and OFF. Someone can pay $$TOT$$ to buy the new generation console, someone
can say "OHHHH I need one... i MUST have one of this... over my old console"
But XBox was not the first of its generation... it\'s only another one... it\'s a surplus... (for whom who have the standby swith).
What i want say is: M$ was too late to hope on a GENERAL (milion of people) swicth ON/OFF mode.
ahem... i did want to be more clear but i thinks this was worse... :)
-
TheSammer,
If I\'m following you, the switch/toggle didn\'t exist until Dreamcast, xbox is just the latest switch to appear? Too late?

Oh, come on. The article he posted directly argues the recall, and it\'s from Microsoft itself, and you treat it as though it were nothing? There has been no recall, it\'s that simple.
After successful launches in North America and Japan, demand for Xbox continues to be high in all launched markets, and production continues at a rapid pace. Microsoft will launch Xbox in Europe and Australia on March 14, 2002.
What do you people expect them to do? State in their very own news releases, "After semi-successful launches in North America and Japan, demand for Xbox has plummeted in all launched markets, and production is slowing because we don\'t see the point of producing the system when no one will buy the stupid thing anyway. I hate Xbox, the same way I hate this stupid company, and the same way I hate myself. God, we\'re doomed.
Xbox? More like StupidBox. More like, Another-Awful- Product-That-Will-Probably-Make-Us-All-BankruptBox. More like, I suck. We should have just stopped trying back then during the development stage, but, no, we had to go and make ourselves look like idiots in front of the whole world. Us and our lousy little machine both. Why?
Why why why why why why why why why why?"
Right.
