Which do you do you prefer? I personally dont care about graphics a good story and gameplay and Im set.
My gavorite game(s) are FF7 and MGS (1st one.) Both of them had a great story and great gameplay. They didnt have the best graphics but still 2 of the best games ever made.

I agree that graphics don\'t matter all the time. I\'m currently playing through Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 4, and the graphics do not bother me a bit because both games have excellent gameplay, memorable tunes, and likeable characters.

It\'s an unfair comparison. See, at the time, the games you mention were at the technological peak of development. MGS, FF7... two games hailed heavily for their superb graphics. They may not withstand the test of time graphics wise, but the test of time gameplay wise is totaly different.

I bend over for sheep.

Graphics and Gameplay.
For instance, Madden 2002 has no story. So, in 85% of the cases, who cares about a story.
Story is only important in the RPG/Action,Adventure department.

I voted for graphics and gameplay. Story and graphics are near-equal for me..
But then again, some of my most anticipated games aren\'t likely to have a deep story.
It doesn\'t matter much to me, I just want fair doses. A good example of the perfect balance of gameplay/graphics/story is Zelda 64.. while a good platformer like J&D or Mario typically has great gameplay and graphics with minimal story.

yea well i gotta admit that i prefer the gameplay and story
i want to have fun playing it and i want to be compelled to keep playing it
those two things seem to run hand in hand for me and they make the most sense - graphics can make a game look more realistic but if thats all you are gonna do is look at it you might as well rent a movie
like i always so you can watch your games while i play mine :)

story and Gameplay- Gameplay is a giving right there...You cant like a game thats no fun and boring. Story is like why u keep comming back to the game. If the story is good you\'ll came back for more.
Graphics kinda use to matter to me back in the psx and N64 days but in this generaton wit the Ps2, Gamecube, Xbox almost par in terms of graphic i could care less. well not exactly par but in the same league.

My vote will be graphics and gameplay. This volt will go towards a shooter type and not adventure. :D

as some already pointed out, it really depends what kind of games you\'re comparing. I usually prefer good graphics, combined with story and gameplay. I do like to think of myself as someone who doesn\'t care too much about graphics, but when I insert an old PSX game into my PS2, it really turns me off. While Ridge Racer V at the time wasn\'t the best racer around, I forced my self onto GT2 (which I played extensively before I got my PS2), but it just wasn\'t the same. Eventhough the gameplay is unmatched by Ridge Racer (well for me anyway), the graphics still made it a more enjoyable experience at the time. So graphics do matter to me, or at least when they are so different like PSX to PS2.

Gameplay is all that matters, really. Of course it depends on the genre, too. An RPG that lasts 6 months had better damn well be interesting.
But games like Pac-Man didn\'t need story or graphics because the gameplay was so compelling. A game like SSX Tricky or Mario Tennis has the kind of gameplay that keeps you coming back no matter what else is going on.
Gameplay gets my vote, but everything else is important for making a game that much more unique.

Obviously Game-play and Graphics...but what I\'m looking for is a game with unique elements...original...fresh...will I ever see it?
...who knows...if the new Mario will make me happy?

Wow I was really expecting gameplay and story.....cause MGS2\'s ending really massed up the game for me. Really...whats a game without a story (unless its a fighting game).
