March 14, 2002 - IGNPS2 has received messages from several fans indicating that SCEA has informed certain PlayStation Underground members of their selection as part of the PlayStation 2 online gaming beta test pool. According to multiple respondents, Sony will be sending out beta hardware and software to the selected entrants once they re-register with their PlayStation Underground ID numbers at the beta test website. Final confirmations will be made on March 22, and beta equipment sent out shortly thereafter.
The beta will conclude by the end of April -- apparently, pool members must return their hardware and software by May 1. No mention has been made of what games will be tested, or whether a new round of beta testing will occur after the month of April. It is certain that more than just games will be tested, though, since online chat rooms will evidently be open (Sony\'s documentation for beta members covered standards of behavior in communication forums). Check back in the future for further updates, though, and thank you to all the beta test members who sent us their comments.
When you get the hardware/software, be sure to take pictures so we others can see! :D

Some dude at GA forums (laguna x) already got his kit. He never got "Contacted by March 22nd", the kit just "showed up"....
....I\'m concerned... I was selected, but I haven\'t heard anything yet, and no kit in my mail yet:(
Better be here Saturday:)
-
Just got home.....
BETA KIT HAS ARRIVED!!!!!!!!!!!
I will hook up and post later, now I will go change my undies:)
-
However, all is not good in Lagunaland. I\'m already experiencing problems. I can\'t connect to the internet, reset the PS2, nor send it into standby mode. I don\'t want switch it off with the main power switch, so I\'m stuck with waiting for SONY support to reply to my emails.
Oh well, at least it\'s in.

I am Ballen2 from GA ;)
W00t!
CygnusXI my friend.. Tell us how it works! PRONTO!! :shy:
-
Yo ballen, what\'s up? Anyways, I going nutz here. Sony\'s beta support is non-existant so far and MSN\'s (my ISP) online support is compelling me to jab hot irons into my eye sockets. WTH! My PS2 has been on for 5 hours straight and I can only play demos of Frequency and GameDay 2002 (the horror)! To make things worse, I totally suck at Frequency!
-
can someone post pictures?????????
:hat:ScottyJ:hat:

Laguna X: That suckorz..
Hmm.. Arent there any free ISP\'s for modems?
Maybe you can try out the SCEA message boards..

Yeah, I tried their boards and am getting no luck. I would try other ISPs, but MSN is the one I told them that I\'d be using during the beta-testing agreement. Plus, I don\'t know of any good free ISPs. Usually the free ones blow.
I thinking about calling Sony up by phone, but it\'ll probably cost me a pretty penny. All I want is some support like they said they would provide. Is that too much to ask for? I feel like Braniac asking for a decent pair of pants.
I have yet to hear of anybody successfully getting online. Cygnus, any luck with you?
-
Very weird..
If you said that you would be using MSN and they granted you the kit... Then it should work.
Is it calling up the ISP?
Have you looked at the settings?
I know I had a problem once, my modem would not dial.. It just sat there.. So I had a look in the settings, and I tried uncheck the "Wait for dial tone before dialling" thingy and it worked..
I dont know if PS2 has that option though.
-
How do I use my DSL.
I configure for DSL, but it looks for a connection to the ethernet port, and my phone line only goes in the phone line port.?!?!
-
All my settings and MSN account info is good, I\'ve checked them at least 10 times by now. The adaptor will dial the number and then I\'ll hear that annoying noise that you usually hear on dial ups. Then it\'ll say connection failed and tries it again a second time, only to fail again.
If only I could get in touch with the beta-support team... but they\'re probably flooded with emails now. I\'ve checked three forums now and nobody has been able to go on.
-
Cygnus, from what I can tell, you have to put the line in the network port if you\'re gonna use DSL. Let us know if you get connected okay?

(Copy the address and paste it in a new window.. Geocities does not like linked pictures)
Thats how it should look on a ADSL (DSL?) setup..

did you guys get an ethernet cable or did you have to go out and buy one to hook it up to your D-link (or other Ethernet -> internet connection)?
:hat:ScottyJ:hat:
-
I\'m testing the dial-up modem services, so I can\'t be dependable with broadband matters. I do think that you need to purchase the cable though. Cygnus should be able to answer your question better than I.
Anyways, I just got off the phone with one of the beta-support guys. The number in the manual is toll-free so go ahead and call if you need the help. Unfortunately for me, it is too early in beta-testing and they don\'t have full documentation that can help me yet. So no online gaming on the PS2 for me until Monday at the earliest, unless I can figure it out myself.
At least I did find out how to reset the PS2. If you get stuck in the set-up browser, you\'ll have to hold down reset for about 8-10 seconds to reset or go to stand-by. So just hold it down for a bit longer til it resets itself.

Laguna, I had probs with my dial up too. I have 10 digits for a dial up access number. Do YOU??
If so, put the main 7 digit number as the ACCESS number, then put the area code portion as "special dial" number in the next menu.
My DSL can\'t work so I got a dial up acct. Support told me to use my computer modem in line with the ethernet port of the bba, but my comp is too far away and uses phone jacks anyway:(
stoopid dial up!!!!!!
I did get on with dial up though and played one game of Fraquency and chatted a bit:)
I\'ll check back tomorrow, gotta go get drunk, watch The Chronicle, Stargate, and get laid:):)
(Nice being married)
See you tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111111111
-
I\'m gonna have to try that tomorrow (gots ta get laid too). It never occurred to me that I had to use an area code number for local access. Doesn\'t help when it says not to use it on the screen, lol.
Btw, what ISP are you using? If I can\'t get it going with MSN, I\'m defecting.
-
i dont have time now, but I will help you guys out monday, gf is yelling at me its time to go...
also the power off button does work, just gotta hold it down longer..
-
local isp (blackhole.com)
Well, my dial up number IS in a different area code (952, not my 612). So I need to enter it. No extra charges though.
Man I really suck at Frequency:( I was better at it at home... I wonder if they jacked up the difficulty for the online version??
Gotta get a usb keyboard, chatting with the dual shock sucks.
