Title: Something that bugs me/ New games
Post by: NPYYZ on March 23, 2002, 06:31:56 AM
A trend that is starting to get on my nerves lately with the advertising of new games for the Next Gen systems, and yes i will single out the Xbox here, That system seems to have the most of this type of add. Here is an example:

This is from a discription of Blood Omen 2

"The most beautiful graphics seen on a console to date! The world that Kain moves through is a lushly detailed, blood-chilling gothic environment that is not only gorgeous to the eye, but also alive with the soon to be dead. "

It seems I just read the same type of paragraph about Rallisport Challange and before that Halo, Nfl Fever, Project gotham racing, actually this has been said about practically all Xbox games  in one way or another. Just a month ago Wreckless was the  best looking game ever created according to the reviewers .I agree they are nice looking games, and I enjoy playing them for the most part. But stop BullSh**ing me. They can\'t all be the best looking games with the most beautiful graphics seen on a console to date. I want some real info. How do the controls respond, is the game a challange or do you get bored quickly (rallisport challange ,looks amazing but after a few days, Snore Fest, I am having more fun playing 4X4 Evo 2 then rallisport challange),  and what about depth, do you do more then run around different planets that have buildings that all look the same shooting at aliens? I\'ll tell ya we need a web site that will give an honest review of a game. I am at the point now where I won\'t buy a game unless I rent it first so there goes another $6.00.

Yeah man, but do you really expect to look on the back of a game and see...

"Dear Gamer, Congratulations.. you\'re holding in your hands the most mediocore game available for the *******! With slightly flawed handling, and piss poor camera angles.. we\'ll be surprised if you can make it past the first level. That\'s what\' makes this game so challenging! Getting past all the shortcuts we took in development will provide you hours of frustation and fun. Go ahead and throw you\'re controller up against the wall a few times before playing the disk.. you\'re going to need the practice."

It\'s all advertising bullshyt that they spew to dupe you into buying the game. It\'s not just videogames, it\'s all products. It\'s sickening, but that\'s just the way it is. The way I see it.. I\'d rather spend the 6 extra bucks to rent a game first, than spend 50 bucks buying a new coaster for your coffee table.

yeah dude, no sympathy from me.. its advertising, only fools (guess that means you  :p) actually listen to what it says

they are trying to sell their game, trying to make money

get over it basically :)

SonyFan made a good point.. plus he is an exceptionally good looking man, listen to him..

First of all, double ick, SonyFan.

Second, this complaint puts the finger on what some PS2 fans have been saying all along; the graphics for all next gen systems are at a level where perceived differences in looks between competing consoles aren\'t enough to be the deciding factor in choosing which one to buy (given the majority of gamers will only choose to back one system in each generation)

And yes NPYYZ, if you don\'t like throwing away money but love owning the latest and greatest games, renting first is the best bet for any game you\'re not absolutely sure about. Six bucks is pretty cheap insurance.

Lay off him man. He\'s been doing a good job posting in a civilized manner, and I think that effort warrants some slack cut to him. Or would really rather him go back to bashing the PS2 and the members here in every post?

*Realizes in shock that he just defended NYPPZ* Hey Avattar? Is it getting cold down there? :p

Sorry haven\'t seen the guy posting lately, I was mainly going off of him bashing the ps2 when I called hime  moron, he probably isnt though, just felt like using the word, it is common thing to call each other in my household.

Xbox ads will always be like that, because its the supposed "most powerful system"

It is (and will be) like that for games on any console.  Companies always like to make its products seem better by manipulating the words of another and taking them out of context, and then quoting them to the public.  It\'s a simple technique that anyone in the business utilizes, and I\'m sure it generates a lot of sales for them.

It can get annoying, I agree, but it takes quite a naive person to actually base his or her opinions off of such an ad.  Just ignore what\'s written and look at the pretty pictures instead.

Let me explain in a bit more detail.  The mistake i made in the above post was using the word "advertising". Some times when typing it is not as easy to get the point you want to come across.

My main complaint is not with the ads on TV, or the description on the back of the game box, of course i would expect that to be a positive description of what the game is. What I am talking about is some of the reviews of these games on different video game web sites. I would like to find a site that reviews games that will give you an honest opinion of how the game really is, not just how great it looks.

Hope that clears things up.

Thanx for clearing things up, now I understand where you are coming from. And your point is a good one.

New games?

*whips out random game box off the shelf; holding Doom II*

"The 3-D modelling and texture bit-mapping technologies push the envelope out to the max! The graphics, animation, sound effects and gameplay are so virtually realistic, they\'re unbelievable!"
etcetc...

Riiiiight...

NPYYZ, do us all a favor and just go away.

Your really not contributing here.  It\'s common sense that one would not say, "this game is good, but has many flaws, buy it anyway".  I think your just trying to screw with our heads now.

Billy Gunn you are right, thanx for bringing up that point to me, I almost thought he was gonna be normal, but then you made me think, thanx.

Hey Billy boy I\'m not going to dragged into a battle with you so just take a chill pill and learn to understand what your reading. If you can do that then we will talk.

if you read all the posts in a thread you would see that I clarified what I was talking about. GAME REVIEWS ON WEB SITES ,NOT ON THE BACK OF THE GAME CASE OR IN ADVERTISEMENTS. Get it  Billy boy?

PS: I don\'t think I will be going away .I like it here.

I fail to understand why...

Anyway, I don\'t know what the hell your talking about then, they DO bring out the flaws in reviews...

yea but they might bring out the flaws in most reviews but a lot of reviewers as of late tend to lean too much on mentioning how awesome and realistic it looks

that and reviews are leaning too heavily on graphics lately and some are even trying to pull off that Graphics are a part of gameplay

In my opinion, gamespot has been doing quite well in terms of reviews.  They\'re honest and truly unforgiving.  I think the worst site for reviews right now is IGN as a whole.  I\'ve just become more and more dissapointed with them over time.
