DoodMonkey Radio presents :
The Sony Ps2 Network adapter. All I can show you is some pics, the rest, has to be kept secret.
If anyone on here who is a part of the Beta test needs any help hooking it up let me know. I have mine connected via ethernet to my switch, which is connected to my computer wich I am using to dial up with. Easy to set up if you know what your doing.. There is also a way to dial up directly with the adapter, but I am not doing that right now.
Well anyways, here are this pics.

The covered plug is the ethernet port. They cover it so people don\'t plug their phone line in and fry stuff.

answer me these questions three:
1) How did you get to do this?
2) Where did you hear about this?
3) Can I still be a tester?

Hello? Where have you been Billy?
1.) They signed up to be betatesters for SCEA via PlayStation Underground I think it was.
2.) It was posted at several big gaming sites a while ago. They liked to SCEA\'s site where you could sign up.
3.) No :(

I\'d be shocked if he\'s allowed to more than he\'s done already. But I would love to see it as well.

Sorry guys, no more pics from what I have already taken. don\'t wanna push my luck more then I already have.. You gots all the info I can give now..
Once the beta test is over I will give you guys a lot more info...
No I don\'t have broadband :( Just 56k dial up..
But what I am doing is
PS2 --- > 100mbs Switch ---> Main Pc --- > Dial up to my ISP
I just set up my main pc to do DHCP (hand out ip address) so I just set my PS2 to find an IP automaticaly, took all but 1 min to set up my PS2 and get it connected to the net...
-
Can you tell us how the gameplay is yet? Can you tell us if it\'s smooth? Any slowdown? I don\'t know how much you can tell us, but if you stay generic you may be alright.
-
I finally had a chance to get on last night.. There are not many people on right now, well at least not last night, maybe 10 at most..
Seems there is an issue with 56k and gameday right now, that is being worked on.. Also typing with the damn controller is very slow... I am going to pick up a USB keyboard today so I can use that instead.
All I have done so far is chat a little bit. I am going to try it some more tonight...
I will keep yall posted..
-
I am just in Frequency. I don\'t play sports games. kirath, do you use the same name in chat?
I gotta get a keyboard too, using the DS2 stinks for chat.
-
Dood I use the same name everywhere. And if you find someone using my name let me know..
I found a couple people so far that tried to gank my name. I laid the hurt needless to say.
-
Do you know if the Linksys adapters will still work with the games? Or is the Sony BBA supported?
-
kirath,
My computer is nowhere near my PS2. I have DSL service, but no DSL modem near my PS2.
Is it possible to get a DSL USB modem with ethernet hookups and plug it in the PS2\'s BBA, or do I need to run through a damn computer?? If so, got any recommendations?
Thanks?
-
Really, if you have DSL the best thing you could do is get a hub.. Run the dsl connection into the hub, and then run your PC and your PS2 off that hub as well...
That would be the best way to do it, just get a long ethernet cable and run it to your ps2. I guess you could get a dsl modem for your PS2. Its a possibility..
How far is your PS2 from your PC?
-
Two floors....
My pc is up on the 2nd floor and my PS2 is in the basement:(
Would a DSL modem work as a standalone, you know without Windows and crap?
Hub? Does that have a standard Phone line hookup with multiple ethernet ports?
Just thought of something!!!!!!!!!!
I do have LAN 10/100 on my motherboard. Can I LAN from my comp to my PS2 and use it that way?
-
With a DSL, I have mine going into a hub. I then go to the computer in one room and also an outlet in the living room for my laptop. That outlet in the living room will eventually be for the PS2.
DSL runs on it\'s own. If you want to plug a DSL directly into the PS2 then that should work as well. But it seems like you would want it for your computer too though.

What do you mean, it runs on it\'s own?? You mean I could plug my line right into the PS2 and get on the net, with no "modem"??
Thing is though, my DSL line is just a plain old phone line (not ethernet--big plug), so I can\'t plug into the ethernet port of the BBA.
Do they have converter cables that convert a phone jack into a ethernet size jack?
-
Hey you can go from the LAN card to your PS2. You need a crossover cable, you can ask any computer store and they should be able to hook you up..
But I highly recommend you get a hub or a switch. and connect them that way, turn on internet connection sharing on your PC and let it hand the PS2 an IP...
Sorry this sound confusing, but its not, once you do it, you will realize....
Me being a network engineer makes this all second nature, but thats why I am trying to help you out too..
-
Bear with me Kirath....:shy:
So, could I get a wireless HUB. Connect it to my LAN connector on my computer. And connect the receiver to the PS2\'s ethernet port?
PC---->LAN-->Wireless HUB...... ----->PS2 BBA?
-

Well DUH, I could have told you that. Never use a controller for chatting, it\'s just plain crap. Now, I have a question. I have a ton of old keyboards and mice laying around my house. None of them are USB though, they\'re all PS/2. I can\'t see the problem in just going to Radioshack and buying a few PS/2 - USB adaptors. It\'d be a helluva lot cheaper than buying a brand new KB & Mouse. Are there any problems using the adaptors? If one of you guys could pick up one at RadioShack and let us know, I\'m sure you\'d make a lot of people here very happy.
(99% sure it will work, but you never know....)

When you said DSL, I assumed you meant a DSL modem. DSL is just a regular phone line up until the modem, then it is ethernet cable. The modem works on its own and you could probably plug your ps2 straight into the modem. If you want to use your computer with it as well then you would plug both the Computer and the PS2 into a Hub, then the hub goes into the DSL Modem, that then plugs into your phone jack.
-
Yes you could go wireless if you wanted to..
PS2-USB adapters should work fine...
And no, I am not the son of sam...
