Title: What would happen if MS bought Rare

How would it change things.. no more perfect dark or star fox for the NGC

Post by: Simchoy on March 27, 2002, 04:43:59 PM: Would be the biggest shock in all of gaming history (with Square coming back to Nintendo as second and Residnet Evil becoming an exclusive to GC as third). Might boost Xbox sales, although those Nintendo fanboys will not be happy.

However, I seriously doubt this news is even remotely true. Doesn\'t Nintendo own like 50%+ of the company? In order for MS to buy Rare, Nintendo would have to sell its portion. Seriously doubt they would unless Nintendo and MS decided to team up (very unlikely).

What I just said obviously isn\'t happening, and has just about as much integrity as the MS-buying-Rareware rumor. It started when some guy on the Gaming Age forums posted that he knows a guy from Microsoft.. and then proceeded to give all sorts of inaccurate information about Rareware\'s games. It\'s a bogus story posted as a joke.. it was a fluke when Evil Avatar and Voodoo Extreme posted the news as a real rumor. Bad judgment. ;)

Besides, Nintendo owns the Star Fox copyrights.. they\'d be in lawsuit heaven if Microsoft tried to steal SFA.

Like winning the lottery, almost!

wha?? i wasnt particularly shocked by them at all..

but buying Rare would be huge.. dont expect it to happen though

Actually, I\'m almost positive Nintendo owns 51% of Rare. If that\'s the case, Microsoft would have to purchase it from Nintendo. However, I did read how Rare is "evolving" and it makes me a little nervous.

That\'s it. I\'m almost positive.. that\'s what Nintendo meant by Rareware going 3rd-party in that interview. They didn\'t even confirm it.. they said it was possible. Rareware has published their own games in the past (Conker\'s Bad Fur Day, to name one) while Nintendo publishes the majority of their games and gets most of the profit. (Star Fox Adventures, GoldenEye, Banjo-Kazooie, etc)

If Rareware talks to Nintendo, they can stay exclusive.. go to 3rd-party status, market their own games (like Kameo) and make all of the profit.. instead of giving most of it to Nintendo. It makes sense this way.. both companies win.

But in all honesty, with Nintendo\'s share in Rareware.. my post makes plenty of sense.

it would just mean that they will be 2 constantly delayed and over hyped titles for the X box.

yeah way to go M$$$$$$$$

set your sights on one of the more duffer of the developers.
