Title: GC freezes
Post by: Troglodyte on March 31, 2002, 12:27:23 PM
A guy on my hall has a game cube, and the only game he plays is "Gauntlet."  People are always in his room playin a terrible-looking game, but that\'s not my point nor question.

That cube is on probably 14+ hours a day, and every now-and-then it will go through an hour spurt of freezing every 15 min. or so.  Is this because of the game, or the Game Cube?

sounds to me a prob with the com, rather than the game...if your not sure take the game back

Game or console either way something is wrong. My guess is its the console.

If it\'s fine for 14 hours, then it\'s a console problem.  Chances are, it\'s overheating.  That\'s what usually happens after a really long period of play time.

14 hours? mines on 24/7 :) i never experience this problem so I guess it is either dust or a bug in his system.

If it was on for a long period of time just after he bought it, he might have screwed something up inside. I hear it\'s good to let your consoles (Expecially the new ones with internal Clocks) play for only 30 min to 1 hour spurts for the first day or two after you get it... after that it should be fine to run for 10+ hours.

I have one of the first PSX models to come out, and it\'s never overheated or locked up despite me having a tendancy to leave it on for 3 weeks at a time.  My guess is, it\'s a problem in the console. Jus have him shut it off when he\'s done and he shouldn\'t have any problems. Console\'s are expensive enough without having to replace them all the time because of stoopid little things like that.

The only problems I\'ve had with my \'Cube are related to dirty discs, and even that happens rarely.

Tell him to check the disc for marks.

If it\'s not that, there\'s a good chance that his system is overheating due to dust or something else.

fastson - It\'s not the chips ~per sey~, but some of the solid state technology that goes onto the boards.. like parts which contain Bios information and system clock. I\'m not saying you run a high risk of screwing something up by pulling the console from the box and running it for 14 hours streight, but it is better on the hardware to keep you first few gaming sessions reletively brief. It\'s just less wear and tear, and reduces the risk of something screwing up because of a minor production flaw.

Least, that\'s the explanation I heard given to a few of the Xbox owners over at XboxWeb forums when they blew their systems by starting up and playing for 24 hours streight just after getting their system.

My ps2 has done that twice just like all of my other systems have in the past including xbox. Havent had any gc experiance yet, other than at bestbuy or something, so I can\'t comment on that.

Consoles will overheat from time to time if left on for very extended periods of time, it isnt new and it wont go away anytime soon, unless the develope systems that the average consumer cannot afford.

You know...My SNES or Genesis never froze..Hell, my Jaguar never froze either! Damn CD /DVD format! ;)

Seriously, it could be the fact that he is leaving it on 14 hours a day. Or it could be a scratched cd, faulty cd or even a faulty \'Cube.

Your friend should have gotten a PS2, it\'s got a perfect port of Gauntlet Dark Legacy.  I got nothing against the Gamecube but Gauntlet for Gamecube is horrible!  I have a Gamecube and was hoping for a new Gauntlet game.

There is always a persentage of electronics that go out the door faulty.  He just may have gotten one that\'s faulty in which case he should contact Nintendo.

Perhaps he\'s also blocking the vents which would cause it to overheat or his room may be hot.

The game\'s code could be bug ridden too.  My brother has Crazy Taxi for PS2 and it freezes sometimes.
