How is it for a rally game? Should I just wait to get Colin Macrae 3 or is this a worthy game?
-
I\'ve never played it but its supposed to be OK. Gamespot gave it an 8.5 (i think), try renting it. Personally, I\'m waiting for Colin McRae 3, which should be the daddy!
-
Wait for Colin. It was ok but disappointing
-
IGN gave it an 8.7
-
I don\'t understand why you people are saying "rent it" when it got reviews of 8.5 and 8.7. I\'ve seen the movies and it looks awesome. I\'m going to buy this immediately, and I\'d suggest that if the rest of you want to see more Rally games in North America, you should buy it too.
-
The only local rental place, blockbuster, doesn\'t have it. I\'ll probably just wait.
-
yea get cm3....i played a bit, the cars were too floaty....best bet is to pm stanzo, he had it, when he 1s got he thought it was great, i asked him a few months later what it was ike, he said, tha it actually aint that great
-
I know why people are saying rent it.
Because it\'s boring.
I bought it on friday and I have already beaten the game on normal without losing a single stage.
On easy I was goofing aorund and trying to see how far off track I could go, and seeing how easy ot was to damage my car, driving backwards etc. And I still won the stage.
it\'s very easy and very short.
the stages are the shortest I have ever seen in a Rally game. Some stages as short as 80 seconds. That\'s a joke.
And with signifigant loading times between each stage it adds up to as much watching a loading screen as racing.
i don\'t care what any magizine or web site gives a game for a review. This game is a 6.5 or 7 at best.
It looks good and controls good. But is just to easy and gets very boring because of that.
It needs a lot more depth. A gargage to make repairs would be nice.
it\'s not a hideous game. It does most things right but nothing special.
I will be exchanging it this week and waiting for CM3 to fill my Rally addiction.
I suggest renting first.
If for no other reason than you can probably beat the whole game in one 5 day rental with little effort.
Later

It\'s not floaty, kopking. You can\'t get much air time on the cars and the roads are smoother than most rally games so you may think it\'s floating coz it\'s not as rough! I play the game with the hood view and trust me, it\'s not bad at all. If you played the game with teh chase view, you loose the sense of speed as you approach the turns. Also, some of the turns have this trick :
example, when you approach a right turn, the actual bend is down hill so the car ends up off the track. It\'s a byatch and it catches you off guard. Most of the time, the bends are flat.
Anyway, it\'s better the GT3\'s rally mode. It\'s better than VRally 2 but not as good as CMR2. I believe the director of this game intentionally left out the repair time feature, torque bias feature for the WRC2002 season. It\'s not a bad purchase. In fact, for a guy like me who can buy only one game per month due to time contraints (I have other responisblities too, ya know :) ), it\'s worth the money I paid for.
EDIT - some of the stages are short just like the actual tracks in real life. Portugal is one of them. Although the Fafe track is somewhate medium length, each bend and hill is from the official SS stage!

I can only say that I had it for a couple of weeks and the game is awesome. The best rally game I\'ve played till date.
-
i say it floaty cos it feels as if you dont steer the car by the front wheels, but there is a invisble pole in the middle of the car, and it turns on that!!! sorry guys i thought this sucked
-
I can\'t believe that vastly different opinions on this game.
usually with something like a Rally game it\'s pretty straight forward. It\'s either good or it isn\'t.

about colin mcrae rally 3 "you can only drive the ford focus wrc" ive been hearing this alot and if true then i wont be touching cmr 3 i will have to wait until wrc 2002 online is released in november 2002.

I just picked up WRC this week (free compliments of my TRU Geoffery Dollars once again...God, I love those things!). Got a chance to play it this evening. I thought it kicked @ss, personally. Love the many views it offers -- personal fav is behind the wheel. And the aerial replays are schwaeeeet.
Controls, at least behind the wheel, are spot-on in my book. The Spain courses are more than adequately long enough for me. Only thing I have to "get used to" (and this is just a "true WRC sport" trait) is that there are no competitive cars on the track with me. Just me and checkpoints.
Did notice in the physics exhibited in "flips" during some rather "oops, I didn\'t see that turn coming" replays were a little off. But overall, the physics seemed tight. Run off the course & up a hill while travelling forward & the car does a respectable job hanging on until its just too late and it has to roll. I didn\'t perceive the "floaty" nature...but then again, I didn\'t play from a behind the car POV -- I\'ve *always* felt that POV gives me that sense of "floating".
As others have mentioned, I too thought the environments left nothing to complain about. And there is a nice stretch of cars to choose from as well. Ain\'t seen \'em all...but the jacket indicates 81 tracks! Nothing to complain about there!!! From the tracks and portions I\'ve played thus far, they are each very different from one another. There only consistency I\'ve found thus far is that none of them offer many chances to let the car run in a straight line for very long :D And that\'s just fine by me!!!
Good game. For me, glad I didn\'t wait for CM3. Then again, my copy was free...

I\'ve gotta pick it up sometime. I need a new game anyway. The last game I got was at Christmas.
