Title: "Memento" Owners- might wanna sell your copy
Post by: THX on April 01, 2002, 10:44:55 AM
Memento LE will be released on 5/21.  I know how many fans of the movie are here so I thought I\'d relay the info in case you didn\'t know. http://www.dvdtalk.com/archives/000098.html#000098

Complete Details on Memento:LE

We\'ve got some interesting news about the upcoming 2 Disc Memento: Limited Edition (set for release on 5/21). Even though it was rumored, the Memento: LE DVD will NOT allow you to watch the DVD in chronological order. There was much discussion about this feature, but ultimately Director Christopher Nolan decided not to include it. In addition, Memento: LE will be a VERY unique DVD centered entirely around the \'mental health\' file of Leonard Shelby, where you will need to do some work to even access the special features. Get the complete details and more on this unique feature.
Here are the confirmed features for Memento: Limited Edition:

Disc 1 • Widescreen 2.35:1 Presentation
• Remastered in HD
• DTS 5.1 Surround
• Dolby Digital 5.1 & 2.0
• Directors Commentary
• Subtitles English and Spanish

Disc 2
• Anatomy of a scene (From The Sundance Channel)
• Director\'s shooting script
• Theatrical Trailers
• Original Short Story
• International Campaigns
• Production Stills and Sketches
• Hidden Features and much more...

Now here\'s the interesting part of the Memento: Limited Edition DVD. The concept of the DVD is the case file for Leonard Shelby. And when you insert the DVD you WON\'T be taken directly to the menu to watch the special features or content. Instead you will need to \'pass\' a series of psychic evaluation tests to get access to the features. We\'re sure that this will be VERY frustrating to some of you and we plan to have a cheat sheet as soon as we get the DVD and make our way through the tests.

Why did Christopher Nolan put in tests before the menus? His philosophy of the DVD experience for Memento: Limited Edition is to immerse you into the puzzling world of Leonard Shelby and to basically mess with your mind, the same way the movie messes with it. The jury is still out weather this will be fun or really frustrating. It\'s possible that the LE will give us more clues about Sammy Jenkins and the connection between his story and that of Leonard Shelby, if nothing more than continue to expose you to the fractured universe of Memento. Pre-Order Memento: Limited Edition Now.

btw- You can keep your copy if you feel you don\'t need the LE version.  I just usually sell the older DVD if I find a newer version is being released.  Still waiting for Batman SE (already sold the non-anamorphic version)!

This is only excusable for the DVDs that were released 5 or so years ago, when you were lucky to have an interactive menu.  I was walking around Best Buy the other day and saw that there\'s a new special edition 6th Sense, new Boogie Nights, and who knows what other "updates" to my collection.  I\'ll be damned if I\'m going to buy a new version of Memento that I bought, what, 6 months ago?

Haha!  Like I said it\'s up to you though I totally understand the hostility.  This hobby is a disease plain and simple.  You feel incomplete if you know you don\'t have the fullest and latest version available of a movie you like.

I\'m guessing the studio had no intention of doing any special edition for the initial release but was impressed with original DVD sales and changed their mind.

It does suck for such a recent re-release but at least DVDs have a pretty good resale value and maybe the extra info will better explain a proposed ending (which still hasn\'t been released).

Have you guys heard the plans for the different Lord of the Rings DVD versions?  One of them has 6 DVDs and it\'s only the first movie.

I already have the existing Memento DVD, and I will not be buying this "SE" version.  The transfer on the current edition is great, and I\'m satisfied with the audio.  To me that\'s 95% of what I\'m looking for in a DVD release.  I usually don\'t give a cr@p about the added content like second rate "Making of" documentaries that are mostly just marketing exercises full of non-anamorphic scenes from the movie.  I don\'t expect this release will have something that horrible, but I don\'t see anything else to grab my attention.  The extra features on the older version were frustrating and worthless, so I\'m not inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt again.

He gets extra points for having Big Trouble in Little China.  Few people actually understood the whole concept and joke for that film.  I like how they joked about it in the commentary.

Sorry these pics aren\'t too good, but I\'m lazy.

Yah, we do.

One suggestion:  Get rid of Pearl Harbor.  Buy this edition instead.  Releases May 14th.

It\'s the director\'s cut with deleted scenes they remastered and finished and added into the film and cut out plenty of the lovey dovey crap as well.

I bought Memento for $9.99 from Blockbuster. Used.

But....it has ZERO scratches. Still has the pamphlet intact. Has the case too! Basically, it\'s in mint condition.

Me Rikey Memento! Me Vely Rucky! :sleepy:
