it\'s a shame Bizio is missing this great news. As I said in console debate already: this is the "freedom" of PS2s architecture and that makes it very powerful for developers. I hope developers can build from there and that even small developers will be able to make big achievements.
Great news, thanks Bossieman. :)

Yep, they said 480p DVD playback is *possible* but Sony isn\'t announcing anything on a new driver update.
Regarding DVD playback, I am not certain it will be included in the future. However, it is definitely possible and since SCEI has made Anamorphic Widescreen Progressive Scan output available for game it only makes sense to add it to the next release of the DVD Drivers.
Remember this is a developer talking, not Sony themsleves.

There has been a lot of talk about this lately. I sure do hope so..

If you have a digital TV, or even better hdtv, you will get the benefits of progressive scan dvd player (hence, even games). Standard tv scan the pictures in half the even lines and half the odds lines at 60 times per second. To be more accurate, 30 times on the even scan lines, and 30 times on the odd scan lines. The half scan lines are called interlaced, producing jaggies images and bad motion. If you look at any standard tv, you will notice lots of scan lines appears, especially if there are lots of action going on.
Progressive scan, on the other hands, draw the image at 60 times progressively. Meaning, it will scan all the lines simutanuously. In the way, you will see crisp picture, no scan lines appear in fast motion. You will get a much better picture quality. That\'s a big benefit for video games because nearly all of the games run at 60hz (60 frames per second).
DVD movies, runs at 24 frames per second but it will scans in interlaced mode without progressive scan. progressive scan will scan the 24fps up to 60fps. And in that way, some picture will be scan twice while other will scan three times to get a total 60fps. Also known as 3:2 pulldown.

Cheers for the explanation. Sounds pretty cool.

When Sony realeases the next DVD drivers update how will they be distributed? I know before they came on a CD when you brought the DVD remote. For the next release will they be sold seperately on a CD or something?

I\'m hoping that the next dvd-drivers can be stored on the HDD. After all, you\'d have 40 gigs to burn. :)
