Title: Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid heading to the big screen.
Post by: RichG on April 05, 2002, 07:10:29 AM
Read about it here (http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/356/356748p1.html)

Sounds good to me. I hope they don\'t mess up the Silent Hill film though.

I think MGS film could be a nice action film. But we need a "director", not a clown.

The Silent Hill movie will be the most frightening thing ever devised by man. Or laughable. I\'m not hoping for the latter. I wonder how well they can bring the game\'s atmosphere to the big screen... maybe it\'d be better if you got to play SH on a movie screen :D Ooooo... that would rock!

I\'d just like to say that David Fincher should direct the Silent Hill, just like George Romero should of wrote the Resident Evil movie.

Thank you.

I think Bill Pullman would be a great choice for Harry Mason. He looks exactly like the guy. I can see that he is on Dark Aura\'s dream cast list. Who knows, if he was in movies like Lake Placid, and Lost Highway, he may very well play the lead in Silent Hill

Bill Pullman for Harry Mason

Daniel Baldwin would be perfect as Doctor Kaufmann

i always found silent hill to be scarier and creepier than any RE game.  the RE always relied on scare tactics to make you jump, but SH just flat out gave me the willies.

silent hill movie?
only one man could ever do horror suspense correctly

"In his movies, whenever a murderer\'s hands only are shown Dario Argento uses his own hands."

thats a true fact.

i can only pray they pay this great, twisted man to do it

I think Russel Crowe perhaps, if he lost a bit of weight. He\'s got the stubble and the kinda gruff voice, give him a good ol\' SS mullet and you\'re onto a winner! Any boyband pretty boy should be suitable for Raiden!!

Or David Hayter...since that\'s who they made Snake look like in the 1st place...plus he\'s an actor...he just needs to hit the weights a little more. Russel Crowe would be a crappy Snake...

I dunno...since Metal Gear Solid is already movie-like...I think it will turn out great. I seem to be one of the few people who enjoyed Resident Evil...

I was carded 30 times trying to get into that friggin\' movie...cuz I lost my ticket stub...and I don\'t look my age. Bastards finally let me in when I got the mofo at the door to help me out.

Keanu Reeves (Or Reaves, I don\'t know) would be a nice actor to do Snake Role. But in short hair... :D

If you want my 2 cents, I think that they should just leave the games animated like in the game and have the people that did the voices do the voices. If MGS was a movie and they used real actors, the movie would flop. It would flop bad. Atleast if they used the origional Snake in a game look (better graphics ofcoarse), and have David Hayter do his voice, the movie would work very well. No one wants to see anyone else play Snake. I had this discussion with a friend before and he agrees.

Don\'t be insane.  People would LOVE a live action Metal Gear movie.  It was meant for it.  It has to be made into a movie.  I don\'t know, I actually thought about writing the script for it and maybe mailing it into Konami so they can take a look at it.  However, the guy I picked was in Black Hawk Down and in band of Brothers and in both roles, he was a tough badass mofo who kicked everyone\'s ass.

The thing about the Metal Gear movie is how you introduce Snake and the plot.  First, you need to set up the terrorist take over on Shadow Moses.  That\'s simple enough, just use something like the opening scene from The Rock where they took those VX gas rockets from that base.  Just use the quirky characters from MGS and genome soldiers instead and have them secure and hold the base.

Then, you need to introduce Snake.  Snake is in Alaska so you want a swooping camera shot of a couple of black military choppers heading into this small town and parking right outside of a bar.  3 Heavily armed special forces soldiers drop out and head into the bar, secure the area, then the colonel walks in and pull up a chair next to Snake who is completely unphased by the whole event while everyone else in the bar are scared sh|tless.  Then the Colonel andSnake have a short conversation and they leave by means of the helos.

Then of course, you\'ll want another scene of the terrorists reaching Metal Gear Rex and obtaining the nuclear weapons needed and the Scientists needed (Hal) to complete the project.  You\'d also want to introduce the darpa chief and kenneth baker, and Meryl here as well all being captured and coerced into talking about Rex or about completeing Rex.

Then of course, you need to show how much of a badass Snake is.  During the briefing, you can have a brief flashback of Snake defeating Big Boss in Outer Heaven while the Colonel briefs him on the situation.  You\'d also want to see Snake in some VR training.  Remember now, since it\'s a feature film, we\'ll have to lose some characters as well.  We can\'t get deep with Mei Ling, but we definitely need to focus on Naomi and her story.

That\'s probably how the first section of the movie would unfold.  We have a problem, we have villains, we have heroes, we have third parties, we have the love interest and a potential friend and ally to the protagonist already introduced.  It\'s a great start.  At the start of the second act, you move Snake onto the island and the rest of the movie takes place from there on.  Works for me. :)

On top of that, he really has the moves and the body to pull it off.  He\'s not too tall, not too bulked up to where he looks like a wrestler, and he already has the experience as a military man (current) to fill the role.

Russel Crowe would be a terrible solid snake.  His voice would be nice, but snake is not that short.  On top of that, I don\'t think russel crowe would look good in military garb.

I know!!! I dont know what I was thinking at the time!!!! I dont think Keanu Reeves would do it very well either. Its actually pretty hard to pick someone out for the part of Snake.

Picturing some guy for the actor of Snake with the mullet hair doo.. Hmm.. I think that would bring down the movie.. He would look so stupid and not "badass".. My suggestion for the MGS movie would be.. Just give him a normal haircut.. Like something James Bond would have....

Never leave out thee bandana tho..;)

Whoa, man... are you sure you\'re not involved in the actual project?   :p

Those are some great ideas, though. Personally, I don\'t think Reeves is a good choice for snake...he looks nothing like him. Then again, did that stop the creators of the Super Mario Bros. movie?:D

David Hayter, (the voice of snake) actually looks like snake. He has a staring role in "Guyver 2: Dark Hero" which is a cool movie. He wrote the Xmen script, but has a cameo. He\'s the cop near the end of the movie that says "This ones alive". you only get a good look at him for a second. But, check out guyver 2. Its amazing how much he looks like snake.

Wasn\'t the Solid Snake character partly based on "Snake Plissken" played by Kurt Russel in "Escape from New York" by John Carpenter ? Imo Russel resembles Solid Snake fairly well,
but he\'s kinda old right now at 51. Solid Snake is about 30 at
the time of the Shadow Moses incident

Or maybe we could have a MGS movie that\'s animated, but not
CGI. I think an animated movie in the style of Yoji Shinkawa\'s
artwork would be cool. I hope they don\'t take some crappy director/scriptwriter/screenplay writer who\'s done some B action
movie..

kopking -

You named decebt actors, but none of them could fill the role of Snake.  I\'ll explain why for each one.

Nicholos Cage doesn\'t have the eyes to play him and his face is far too bony and slender.  He\'s not a big guy ya know, but Snake does have at least SOME build to him.

Edward Norton is the same way.  He just doesn\'t look the part.  The eyes and the hair are the big giveaways here and his slender body as well.  Just watch The Score and you\'ll see that he\'s better in a dramatic role rather then one of action.

Micheal Beign (Abyss, Terminator, Navy Seals) was the original design for the NES version of the first Metal Gear.  The problem is is that he\'s too old now.  No hollywood makeup artist could make him look 30, he hasn\'t aged well at all.

Bill Paxton suffers the same as Micheal Beign.  He\'s also too big to play Snake.  Look at him in True Lies to see what I mean.

Christian Slater is too tiny to do anything but be almost comedic.  Seeing him as an action star in Broken Arrow was sad.  it\'s probably why he has not been in any big movies recently.

I\'ll cast the entire movie so we can all see the direction I am heading in.

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fmrclean.gethits.net%2Fbana.gif&hash=ddb465f154cfb5148bb54178f6da3870a2e7caaa)  Eric Bana - His credits include Black Hawk Down and the new Incredible Hulk film being made.  For his credit in Black Hawk Down, he played a tough as nails Delta Force soldier who completely owned everyone.  For that specifically, I choose him as one of the two candidates I have for Solid Snake.

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fmrclean.gethits.net%2Fsettle.jpg&hash=bf31142d1054767179932071d9a83c0de40c14b9)  Matthew Settle - his credits include Band of Brothers and U-571.  In Band of Brothers, he played another bad ass soldier who owned everything.  His name was Lt. Spiers in those episodes he was in.  He definitely has the look and the build to be my second choice to play Solid Snake.

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fmrclean.gethits.net%2Fray1.jpg&hash=c93f2a8c68594b509ac908b308f3019db32325e4)  Ray Park - His credits include Darth Maul in Episode 1, Toad from X-Men, and countless other stuntwork.  His martial arts skills and his willingness to dawn any type of make-up or suit make him the perfect pick for the Ninja AKA: Frank Jaeger or Grey Fox.

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fmrclean.gethits.net%2Fming.jpg&hash=c6c3f13dee28ca50020e81495f8f0bc0f53c364b)  Ming-Na Wen - Her credits include The Joy Luck Club, ER, Final Fantays and the voice of Mulan.  Her acting skills off-screen (Mulan, Final Fantasy) are impressive as well as on-screen.  Additionaly, she looks the part completely to fill the role of Mei-Ling.

-- I have no suggestions for Campbell at this time. --

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fmrclean.gethits.net%2Fbruce.jpg&hash=ff4e229156a7775c42c593f7b26cf19c89279163)  Bruce Harwood - His credits include being John Byers on the X-Files and his own show called The Lone Gunmen.  He\'s perfect if he had bushier hair and shaved his beard.  Glasses would look natural on him in the film.  He is of course my pick for Hal Emmerich AKA: Otacon.

That would be it for the heroes side of the fence.  I\'ll do the villains a little later.  Someone help me out with Campbell because I have no idea who would fit in that role.

nicholas cage would do a excellnt raidn in y opionion.

yeah ryu i know wht your saying, but im sure with some make up and sh1t, they could make them look hard, its kinda hard to think of a person who can act, and looks right........

i was gonna say kurt russel, but hes too old, same as mel gibson, if he was like in mad max ( the first) thay would rock!!!!

also in the original mgs(ps1, yeah i knowits not the origial) snake is not that fat as in mgs2, he looks more thinner and more clean cut

also what about ray liotta, if he werent so old...i gotta go watch some films and get ideas in my head

Cage is far too old to play Raiden, Britney might do it well :P

This may sound daft, but a serious character for Raiden could be Leo DiCaprio, but that would just turn it into a chick flick, which would be bad. Has anyone got any pics or anything of Hayter? Also, how about Bill Gates to play Otacon/Hal????!!!!!

What about the guy from Swordfish, the computer hacker Stanley, Hugh Jackman, I think he could fit the role nice, if he could change his voice a little.
