I\'m looking at buying a 540i BMW. Probably about 2 years old. Can\'t afford a new one I don\'t think. What other car would you look at in this class. I want a fast 4 door sedan. Remember, I gotta kid.
Need to probably stay under about 35,000 unless it\'s just damn worth it.
-
Since you have yer eye on BMW.. get a used M3..fast...should have enough room..handles great..etc..
-
Subaru WRX Sti, fits the price range and is badass.

think about it..he has his eye on a 540....WRX doesnt come close to comparing.
-
He can get it new though and still be pretty cheap. I was just giving another idea. Its all good.
-
Hmm, I am thinking a M3. I also think you should consider a Porsche GT2...
Or even just the regular Carrera.
-
oh man, if i had $35,000 i would spend it on the one and only, NISSAN MAXIMA!!! i am addicted to this car, my dad has one, and i want it. his is a 2k1 auto, but it hauls a$$. get a new 2k2 maxima se, with the 6 speed manual and helical limited skip differential. the car has 255hp, and the guys at http://www.maxima.org will show you time slips of the car doing 14.3 1/4miles STOCK!!! but it looks like you want a more luxury, performance sedan.
i would also go with:
2k2 infiniti I35
2k2 acura TL-S
2k3 infiniti G35
99/2k Lexus gs400
just my $0.02 cents.

Actually, I think that is a much better idea..I somehow forgot all about the max. I have personally seen AUTO max\'s running 14.3-14.6 with MINOR mods..intake/ehaust..etc. ^speeds..even faster.
Like you said..luxury..speed..handeling(enuff anyway).. space, and creature comforts. PLus the reliability of one of he best motors of our time.
-
My car does the quarter mile in 14.5 secs!!!
Its a Mitsubishi VRX. Sweet car.

finally, someone other than me that respects the maxima and its VQ engine.

one almost has to..it\'s a great power plant by todays V6 standards.

How about a RX-8? It\'ll be under 37k, and has a FULL rear seat. And the access to those rear seats is easy thanks to the suicde doors.

hey vid since yer looking into BMW\'s go for a 330i (2002 model) or if yer feelin sporty the 330ci would do, i believe they are both uner $35000 (brand new),
but another alternative would have to be the 2002 maxima man that car is fast

I say the Lexus IS300 is a good selection and should be checked out. Not only are they luxury cars, they have a hint of bad a$$ to them.

Thanks guys for the tips. The Maxima is a great car as well. I use to own one. We\'ll see what happens. I really have had a passion for BMWs for a long time so I will search at other options, but I really love the drive. I also like that IS300. What is the infiniti like in the sport sedan class?
I love the M3 and if Logan were a little older I would go for a convertible M3. Maybe in a few years. For now it\'s just not practical.

Just from the looks of them I can only tell you that they look like a luxury version of all that is Mazda. They don’t yet have that flair that Lexus or BMW have. I say look elsewhere, they are not all that atractive.
-
I have a thing for Honda\'s... So I say Honda S2000. Not very practical though. :D
-
Subaru Impreza STi - you\'ll put quite a few Porsches in your rearview mirror for half the price! Plus, it\'s not common for a sports car to handle as easily in the rain as it does in the dry. And that\'s what the Impreza can do for you.
-
I support the Lexus, always liked those

The Impreza is becoming more and more like an a$$ hole…everybody’s got one. I say go with the Lexus or BMW. They have something the Impreza doesn’t…they have class. I like the Impreza, but it is becoming too much of a kiddies car around here. Too many mommies and daddies are buying them for their kids, then I end up ripping them apart with my Camaro and the only thing they have to say then is “nice red neck car”. Yeah well that red neck car just whipped the road with you’re a$$ I tell them. As far as they go, I just say “get a good look at my taillights ‘cause that’s all your ever gonna see”.;)

Hey man, everybody knows that’s what luggage racks are for! That way you can strap the wife and the stroller down and go!
;)

If I had 35K to spend and I was looking for a car I would get a used 2001 cadi Deville DTS. 4.6L V8 Northstar DOHC 300HP.
Or if had the money go for new.

Cadillac\'s are sweet. I think they even come with a place to keep your colostomy bag in the door.

I love the deville DTS and with 300hp that baby is smoking. I\'ve seen some of the suped up v12\'s and those puppies are nice.
UMM I think GM left the colostomy option out of the car.
-
Actually I was just teasing. They are very nice cars.
I have a lot to look at. I may not get anything. I\'ve just been driving an explorer for a damn long time and if my wife gets a job soon we will have quite a bit of extra money coming in from what we have become use to. Plus she will get a car with the job too so one car payment to boot. Yahoo!!!
Can you tow a boat? Say a 20\' ski boat with any of these sedans?
-
I would also have to recommend the Lincoln LS.

I think that not only do they look cool and have class, but also they have a younger generation’s edge to the style.

Yeah but Project86 when your Camaro goes flying off the road in the rain because you have rear wheel drive don\'t go crying to the All Wheel Drive Subaru\'s. And you guys are all talking about BMW\'s, sorry but I don\'t know all the different kinds. I don\'t get my hopes up since I know I\'ll never be able to afford one.

Yeah well, I have yet to race a “kid” that has enough intelligence to take my Camaro and me on in the turns on a rainy day. Besides, the 1” lowering kit and my Z rated Eagles give me a pretty good handle on the road anyway. All wheel drive is just another excuse for “kids” to race the big boys…and generally the “kiddies” lose.;)

i would bu youa cheap car and keep the est of the oney for myself.....and but loads beer and porn
-
If Kirath reads this, he\'ll tell you to buy an Audi of some kind. I wouldn\'t do that, but maybe you\'d like to consider it.
For a 4 door sedan in that price range, I\'d go with a Lexus, probably the IS300. A standard transmission is now offered, and the car just looks very very cool. Lots of performance and appearance mods available, though I would keep the changes subtle if I were you.
I will admit that BMWs are fantastic from a performance standpoint, but I have an irrational bias against them. Here in LA they are more common than all the stoplights, traffic signals, and mailboxes but together. It seems whenever LA people raise their income, the BMW [or Mercedes] is an automatic purchase. It always seems to me that if you buy a BMW, you run the risk of blending in with all the brand worshippers, instead of having something that\'s superior AND more unique on the road.
Then there are those people who have an irrational bias against japanese manufacturers... Perhaps might think that Germany = the best, and Japanese = cheap compromise. I obviously don\'t think that. :)

Now thats a car.
I think its russian (or Polish) so expect high quality ;)
-
If anything I\'d call a Camaro a kiddie car. My school has over 800 cars in the parking lot. About 30 of them are Camaros while no Impreza\'s. In fact I see Impreza\'s like once every 2 weeks are so. Very uncommon so I have no idea what your talking about.

Camaros and mullets go hand in hand, Goober! And I\'ll take you through the twisties any time, rain or shine. I garrantee the speeds I\'ll be going, you\'ll end up going backwards through! It\'s happened before. Camaro tried to keep up with me in the rain through this 90 degree corner and ended up rear end first in someone\'s yard!
It was funny! I four wheel drifted outta that turn at 40mph in the rain. I nearly crapped in my pants when my car went too close towards the parked cars but my car finally carved back into the middle of the road while the Camaro fishtailed and then lost it ass first into the yard. :D
Follow me....and you may end up 86\'ed! :p

Amen brother.
Other than that, I\'d probably just get a BMW if that is what you\'ve been wanting for awhile. Get something you\'ll be happy with, because you\'re paying on it for quite sometime.

LIC hit the nail, if you are eyeing the 540..get it..you know its what you want, and since you will be paying for it, just dive right in. Or lease a 2003 5series, then turn it in and buy something in 2004. That way you get a taste for it, if you really like, you still have the option to buy.
-
Dude just get a Malibu.
The Boo\'s rule.

All I can say is “impressive”. I have now spoken with somebody who knows how to race well in any condition. However, that does not speak for the other couple of idiots I encounter on the road every so often. You probably know that most Camaros do not come stock with anti roll and suspension stiffeners. They also do not come with “z” rated tires. I have these accessories and I assure you, I would not loose it in the corner. You may take me in the turn at times, but once we were out of the turn, with my advantage of 400 hp and a redline of 6800 rpm I would have you in a matter of seconds.
I would be honored to race an individual like yourself. We don’t seem to have young speedsters that have talent in this neck of the woods.
As for the Camaro and mullets going hand in hand… your right. But I was only saying that around here, the Impreza is becoming just as popular for kids.
;)

Any nice new green Jag....they have the best head peices :)

AHAHAH! Kewl! When I do my cross country trip, we\'ll have a spirited chase around the twisties of.....Colorado? Man, you better pray for dry weather...and I\'ll pray for snow. :D
Not many kids(teens) can afford a $25,000 turbo charged car. Civics. Oh yes. They\'re every teen\'s bling bling car.

Exactly. The reason I said that, is because I\'ve surfed forums and seen people talkin\' trash about Honda Del Sol\'s - yet I love \'em. Its something I like and that is what important, because I\'m the one who is goin\' to be paying on it. The same applies with the BMW and Vid. Get what you like, because you\'re paying for it. Don\'t settle for something else.

Well spoken man. It’s not what other people think that should be important to you, it’s what you think and what you like that should be.
But I still say the Lexus rocks!:D
-
Oh and by the way - as for what car you should get. If you decide you don\'t want the BMW, I say don\'t get a car at all..
Get a ...
Segway!
;)
-
I think he should get the new MINI COOPER S! :D
You\'ll out corner everything! Even my car! :p
-
Working here on this show I should be able to get some mods pretty cheap or free for the 540. I\'d love to get a V8 between my legs for a while.
Still up in the air though. I may wait a few months and see how it plays out. My explorer works fine so I have time to find the right car.
Now let\'s just pray Lona gets this job. I am so tired of being poor...... No more I say.
-
That is why I say get a BMW 740 iL. If not for the car itself, do it for the fact that it has 12 cylinders.:nerd:
-
Ok, I have a new suggestion. Get the new Audi A4 convertible. Here\'s a nice picture (just ignore the somewhat silly color):

Very perty. I don\'t see the back doors though.
Why don\'t they make a freaking convertible 4 door. Someone please invent one. Just make them suicide doors or something.

I think those things are ugly as hell... and they\'re starting to look like a Dodge Intrepid / Buick Regal / Roadmaster / POS american car. No thanks.

Oh man, I love the 7 series. It just costs more than my house. Well, not really, but geeze......
-
hey Coredweller by yer remarks i bet u have never been in a 7 series BMW coz that car is tight. man if i had the money i would definately go for a 740i
-
This one is for Coredweller…
WTF!!!11
-
Why a used BMW? Just for the status symbol?? Just want to know why?
I would seriously look at the G35 - I have been, with a little but of drool.. If you like Jap cars then thats a nice one, there a quite a few nice ones.
Audi is also a considerations, even more so if you are in any snowy environments. Subaru fits this bill as well...
Well its your decision, go test drive a few, each car is different and every one like some different, given thats why there are so many car makers...
-
A real man drives trucks anyways:thepimp: Since you have a old 94 explorer upgrade to a 2002 cadi ext those puppies are fat.

OK OK, I know....
Being that these are the most expensive automobiles BMW makes, I\'m sure they\'re really good. Excellent build quality, hoards of power, luxury appointments up the yin yang...
But take a look at those pictures. THERE IS NOTHING DISTINCTIVE about the outside of that car. It looks totally plain and utterly conservative. It\'s almost like it\'s designed NOT to be noticed. Since I live in LA, I\'m sure I\'ve seen these before but I honestly don\'t remember the experience. It just looked like every other BMW sedan, of which you can see 3-5 stopped at every traffic signal at any given time. If you were spending $85,000 or whatever these cost, would you want your car to be so unremarkable?
-

Cause I like the power of the 8 cylinder and I don\'t know if I can get a new one. We\'ll know better in a week or two. Right now we have over 700 in car payments and if we don\'t need a second car I can dump both cars and have a car payment less than 700 and still have a great car. Lona will be getting a car for her work so we will only need one car. I just don\'t want to buy a car too expensive. We are in the process of saving money right now for investment opportunities so I don\'t want to go nuts.

I agree that the new 7-series is FUGLY as hell. The \'old\' 5-series and the 3-series look great and I think they should have stayed with that design.

You may think that the car and its design are “fugly” as hell, but it wasn’t until I had a chance to drive one that I began to admire the mixture of power and prestige that is the 700 series.
It’s just too bad they cost over 90 grand. And that is for the low end model.
;)

i really like the look of the new 7 series, especially the interior, it looks sweet.
now back to the topic. if you really wanted a bimmer, get the used 5 series. i wouldn\'t get the 3 series cause it looks like you want a midsize car, whereas the 3 series is a compact car catogory. personally i would rather have a new car versus a used one. if i were going to get a manual transmission, nothing sounds sweeter to me that a new 2k2 maxima se with a 6 speed for less than $30k. if i were looking for an auto, i would go with either the infiniti i35 or g35. the i35 is basically a maxima, fitted with a auto tranny, and has a more "luxury" look to it. the g35 is more a performance car, being rear wheel drive, and having 260hp and 260 ft tq(its an auto though). i would seriously consider buying a new car though, especially if you are going to spend upwards $35k on the car.
