I\'m surprised you managed to get past the Nintendo logo in the beginning, MM!
The game\'s music reeks of "cute".. from the title screen to the very end of the game. :)
So, what do you think of the gameplay?
-
yeah, my ears almost started bleeding when some tinny childlike voice screamed PIKMIN! during the loading screen, then i saw the nintendo logo and looked over my shoulder to make sure noone saw me playing
its almost like an adventure/puzzle game
plus i have a blast throwing those little bastids around
everytime they have to carry a piece back to my ship, i make whip cracking noises and say, HURRY UP YOU LITTLE TERDS!
-
I\'d just like to say..
I TOLD YOU SO!
;)
-
mm, I would never have known you would eventually \'play with ants in your backyard\'..shame on you.!

It really is a shame that a original and quality game like Pikmin didn\'t gain true commercial success (it got plenty of critical success / praise). I can only hope Nintendo goes forward with a sequel , or at least give us some information towards the Pikmin as a franchise come E3.
I bought the game the same day I bought SSBM. I got home, tried out SSBM and was not impressed with the gameplay. So, I loaded up Pikmin and could not stop playing it. Eventually I beat it, but didn\'t get all the parts, so I went back and tried to get all the parts. Once I beat it that time, I went back again to try and prefect my time / pikmin count and so on. Addictive and deep.
(P.S - Also further proof that a game doesn\'t need to supply us with tons of mature theme\'s (blood, sexual references) or a deep storyline , to still be fun.)
;)

hey LIC, does it matter how many pikmin get killed?
they cant fight worth a crap
-
MM: Nah, you can kill as many as you want.. although it\'ll make getting some of the pieces very difficult.
Hint: Red Pikmin are the best fighters, easily. :)

My advice would be for you to take a bunch of Red Pikmin, plant \'em until they have a fully developed bud / flower on their head and then pick them. They\'ll be Super-Pikmin then! If you develop a nice army of those, you can take on anything, espically the fire breathing giant ant (at least thats what I think it is?!?) in some of the later levels.

I think the game looks kinda fun.. :eyemouth:

Yea I agree that the children laughing in the beginning was a little unsettling, but other than that the game rocks (0rz j00r b0x0rz).
When I played, if I wasn\'t happy with my progress for the day I would restart the level. In the end I walked away with every ship piece but it took a big hunk of the replay value out for me, so you might keep that in mind.
Good luck though, it\'s a lot of fun. I wonder what they have planned for the sequel? Olimar revisits the planet and....

Gathers more Pikmin:D

The "Ack!" shouldn\'t be in the title! There is no problem with liking this game at all. Its what all games should be, unique and really fun.
This is coming alot from a guy that hasn\'t played it yet though...
-
Its a great game and in the sequal Olimar goes back to the planet to find his friends, the pikimin, are under attack my an evil army of killer animals/bug. He must save them all and defeat the army. I think that would be great. They should add the choice to see a instant replay of the last minute so you can watch the pikimin getting eaten by the emeny in slow-mo. :)

The day I play this game is the day I start drinking Shandy!.
-
It is a shame that it didn\'t get much recognition from people. I wish more games were as new and inovative as this.
-
Bozco: Yeah, only a few games this year innovated as much as Pikmin does for its genre.
ICO.. GTA3.. Pikmin.. errm, that\'s about it for innovation in 2001.
-
I\'d throw in Ka.... and Super Monkey Ball, although it isn\'t a new idea.
-
Yeah, and Rez was pretty unique.. plus Luigi\'s Mansion.
Although, most of the big hitters (MGS2, FFX, Halo, SSBM, Rogue Leader, DOA3, GT3, etc) have been done..
-
nah, luigi\'s mansion sucked
i played it for 5 minutes and tanked it out, its resident evil for toddlers
-
i played it for 5 minutes
That\'s the problem here. ;)
Even if it\'s "kiddy", I beat it and it was very fun. Innovative compared to the other big games this year too..
-
no, it was the same problem that pokemon snap did
it isolated its "over the age of 5" audience
gimme a shotgun in either game and ill change my tune
-
I played all the way through Luigi\'s Mansion and I am 24. I thought it was a lot of fun. What is wrong with kiddie games? Personally I like them better then the blood and guts games.
-
Yeah. I mean, unless they go to the extreme with kiddiness (disrupting gameplay) I don\'t mind it..
Luigi\'s Mansion was more on the easy side than the hard side.. but it had solid gameplay and enough challenge to get me through it. It\'s too bad that it\'s so linear; after I finished it, I had little reason to play again.
For such a linear game, they should have bundled a "challenge mode" of sorts in there like Pikmin\'s.. :o

It wasn\'t no break through title, but I have to say it was a game that could be enjoyed for people over five. I\'m near 19 and loved it.

hey matey
errmmm
well Luigi\'s Mansionis the fianl reason why i am getting a NGC
i got a chance to play it for 45 min\'s in Game Yesterday and i was hooked !
After 10 min\'s or so the Store Clerk asked me if i wanted to preorder one.and both me and Miss Money penny Said "hell yeah..(already put doen a 50% Deposit)"
so i am going to trade in some of my PS2 games (the ones i hardly ever play anymore ) to get a ..........
NGC
Memmory card
Luigi\'s Mansion
and Preorderd Pikmin
might pick up rouge leader 2 on launch day as well
//me cant wait only 13 days to go :) :D
-
Atta boy! ;]
But yeah, unless you really get hooked on Luigi and try to get higher and higher scores, it\'s going to last you about 5 hours. Giving that you might only buy a couple games at launch, you might give it more of a shot, but if you get too many, you\'ll quickly forget about Luigi in favor of the others.
In fact, I got so many myself that I barely made any progress in Rogue Leader. I got to say, level 5ish, and the objectives were so unclear that I couldn\'t progress. I moved on... I kind of want to boot it up and try again, now...
-Eik
-
i was thinking more of Rouge Leader 2 and monkey Ball to be my first games
Hopefuly i can hold of buying beer and maybe get a 3rd game :D
-
Rogue Leader is good.. but like Eik said.. some of the objectives are described vaguely..
And the game is very frustrating if you\'re not a fan of space shooters.
-
14 Days, 22 parts.
I\'m now on Forest Navel and that damn flying insect is getting on my nerves. Then I make the mistake of cracking open a large egg and this phantom monster starts raiding my space ship! GRRRRR!
I had to restart that day coz of that phantom menace! I was about to collect 3 parts in one day!
-
Get Super Monkeyball and Pikmin. They will make any NGC owner happy for quite sometime. Infact, I sort of wish I had my NGC here right now (a friend borrowed it) so I could load up Monkeyball.
:(
