Can you believe this?

The biggest bars since Onimusha. And there is no 60Hz option.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, damn man!!!! i didnt notice the big black borders in the demo i plyaed with ff6.......where you get these pics from??
-
Um, just what are we supposed to be noticing here?
-
Wow, very impressive, now with PS2, we can have even more impressive mourning bars in our games! I can\'t wait to see the first game that has only 10% of the screen reserved for the game!!!!
-
makaha, do you have the game, because maybe the PAL screen you posted only has those large borders because it\'s a cut sequence? And when\'s it out in Europe? I might be getting this one... although I should complete FFVII first..
BTW: Blame it on those damn NTSC users... why can\'t they upgrade to PAL? :D
-
yeah im hoping itsjust the cut scene, but seriously i dont rember the boarders in the demo...also im not sue there are boarders on tat pic, more like its a smaller pic
-
Oh, is THAT what you\'re talking about? Relax fellas, that\'s just during certain cut scenes (and not all of \'em). Don\'t worry, they are non- existant during actual gameplay.:D
-
ya but that second picture isnt a cut scene, its just a talking sequence
plus, if you study the pic, it looks like someone just shrunk it vertically
-
It\'s the cut scene in the begining, where Tidus first comes out of his house, right? To me, it looks like someone just had a bad t.v. or something...:(

No T.V. isn\'t a problem... That kinda sucks since everyone looks fatter. But thats what they say, "PAL adds a couple... hundred pounds."
-
Sad but True.
-
I have played the demo, and it had huge borders. Due to the borders, the graphics looked very out-of-place. I wasn\'t very impressed.
Yet if the storyline is as good as everybody claims it to be, I am one satisfied gamer.

Isn\'t that a OLD Screen Shot ?

This is disgraceful!, especially considering the length of time they have had to make a proper PAL conversion.
I will NOT be buying this crap!
-
yeah tell me about it...but i still get it though
-
i will buy the game.. and i will love it
-
You\'re all wrong my friends... BELOW is the REAL ffx PAL converstion...
The PAL version has a slight border added onto the original NTSC version borders...
(PAL on left/ NTSC on right)
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fffworld.com%2Fimages%2Fnews%2F25_03_02%2Fntsc-pal.jpg&hash=b640f7e57399b14e0dba1ab71222d4cd5bafaa6d)
Sources say that it may also include a 60hz option, although it\'s very doubtfull...
here\'s some proof I guess...
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ffworld.com%2Fimages%2Fnews%2F17_04_02%2Fffxpal.jpg&hash=2c7f02e30123f4716230d0ac88c1f691420d9d51)
There borders on the screenshot above are the same size as the american version..
I don\'t know why I bothered doing this, I just don\'t want people boycotting this game because of some fake screenshots..
I fully apoligize if i\'m proven wrong when this is released.
-
what the hell if there are borders?! Most people should have a widescreen tv anyway which would almost eliminate the boarders. And the resolution isn\'t worse in PAL, it\'s just that PAL has a higher resolution than NTSC and therefore has boarders when they convert it.
-
Grrrr.. Square should go with the flow.
Make a good PAL conversion! (make the resolution higher)
And maybe add stuff like 50/60Hz? Sony, Namco, SEGA (and some others.. I heard Capcom is going to support this with the new games) is doing it. Cant be that expensive?
-
SCEE:
"In preparation for the European release of FFX, we have carefully examined the technical factors involved with the PAL conversion. After a thorough analysis of both the 50/60Hz switch and full screen display support, our development team has come to the conclusion that these features cannot be implemented due to the lack of free space for image data on the DVD to support the 50/60Hz switch.
In order to do a 60hz switch, it would have been necessary for the development team to store all of the FMV files on the DVD disc twice (in both 50hz and 60hz modes) and there was simply not enough space on the disc to achieve this."

yes it can be i think, well they had a project to develop the game 2 years ago i think or was it more i duno. whoever developed it that time or worked on it is propably now working on ff11 or something else, all they need to do is make some language conversions and find a way to make the game convert from NTSC to PAL, i don\'t think ne body in square wants to re-write the game\'s graphic engine so it would look better only on pal systems, cause they could use their programers elsewhere.
well i got my NTSC version last december and my opinuin this game isn\'t bout graphics, i didn\'t even like the graphics that much really, what i like the most is the gameplay and the story, well ok i would rather have PS2 graphics than PSX yes, but i thought its the whole package which really makes the game shine. i was more impressed by grapchis in devil may cry but that game got me boared to death in a few days lol.
i like the ballance in the game, the dificulty is just right, it\'s not tooo easy and it\'s not too dificult, and if ur not thinking ur stratigy u could still die a lot ( unless u level like crazy like me lol ) and its intesting all the way, feck the graphics i want the game even if it was in PSX graphcs would still imprese me today, it\'s square !

That\'s BS!!!
They don\'t adapt the FMV for Pal conversions, they just skip some of the frames displayed.
AFAIK, FFX won\'t have 60 Hz support, and It\'ll be released with big black borders... again. Welcome to Yurop!
I\'ve read in another board today, that some people\'s patched their "b-a-c-k-u-p-s" to have 60 Hz support in games like DMC. Now that\'s funny, we\'re paying 70 ? for playing this crap, and the guys that pay 3 will have the complete version. Thank you Sony.
BTW it seems that 60 Hz support isn\'t that hard to implement after all, heh?
Paying more for playing less and worse is so damn cool...
-
It\'s true you idiot, the disc is almost full with the translations so they can\'t add a 60hz option to the fmvs.
If you actually read my post you\'d be happy to know that it\'s reciveing a mgs2 style converstion.
You\'ll see...
But there will be more \'black borders\' on-screen because the USA version already has them.
-
PAL sucks NTSC rules. Get over it!
Now before all you English gamers start flaming me im ENGLISH! I mean seriously what did you expect? The game to be good after a years wait. Prehaps if Sony was a good company.
One word M0DCHIP. Seriously theres no reason as to why you should have to suffer these **** games. At the moment they are hard to get hold off and I personnally haven\'t got one. However the bottom line is the technology is there. PAL people have been playing Final Fantasy X since January, full speed, full screen!
Its a pain I know. I mean I for one don\'t know anyone to fit one. However this is what you get for buying a console from a crap company.
I don\'t know if you know but the X-Box has 60Hz in the actual options menu of the machine. ALL GAMES are optimised.
Anyway im so mad at this but ill get over it. Only gaming afterall and like I originally said did any of you honestly think it was going to be any different?

First of all, I wasn\'t attacking you, so take a few seconds to breathe deeply before you start calling other people an idiot. You\'re over reacting here, and I\'m sure that you know how\'s the situation in Europe.
I said it was bs what they said about the need to store 2 versions of the same FMV, one at 50 Hz, and the other one at 60 Hz. I own a DC, and that just doesn\'t happen; they just skip some of the frames (the FMVs in my Pal version of Code Veronica jump from one frame to another, which make them look a lot worse).
That\'s exactly what they said:
In order to do a 60hz switch, it would have been necessary for the development team to store all of the FMV files on the DVD disc twice (in both 50hz and 60hz modes) and there was simply not enough space on the disc to achieve this
*sigh*So I\'ll repeat it again... I\'ve nothing against you, but I don\'t like all this crappy conversions and excuses Sony\'s been doing since launch day. Nearly every big PS2 title launched here has been a disappointment due to sh*** conversions.
I also hope they could fix these issues, because the demo was far from being even a standard Pal conversion.

NTSC version still has borders
and the borders dont really bother me, i saw the game running on a TV, not that bigga deal.. (think it was just the demo)

Uh?
If you\'d noticed Sonys games were one of the first to have 50/60Hz option on PS2?

PAL does not suck

SH2
MGS2
FF10
extras

humps something.. :bounce:
Are the borders as big as in the first shot?
-
the borders are still pretty big
more than an inch on both sides.. but you really dont notice it during the game.. the characters dont look deformed or anything
my brother walked in while i was playing it and he didnt even bring up the borders (its something that he would usually bring up) because its really not a big problem
framerate is fine, graphics are fantastic (although some areas are better than others)
and its just a fantastic game.. the opening hour or so is just.... awesome
:)
-
yeh good point bob, when i first played the demo i didnt notice them, only when i read here about it , did i go back and play it ad notice it... but it would be ncer without the borders
